People are free, police are not our superiors but we are all equal. Unless committing a crime then he has no right to move or push or assault another human
Yeah, you know the whole story. He was on a public street, a sidewalk, not a restricted area. No, it was not a dangerous situation other than cops grabbing people and slamming them into the ground. Police are supposed to enforce the law under the constitution. You cannot order someone to leave a public space unless they are disrupting the peace or obstructing the public way. There is no reason to expect anyone to defer to police as authority figures beyond the law they're supposed to uphold
Why is it that everybody now thinks that Police or any authority figure in the U.S. are our masters, and we are their subordinates, that our role is to obey the authority figure, and resistance to their whims should be met with punishment. Its like everybody, no matter how old they look, is a child asking permission and hoping that mommy or daddy will allow them to do as they please. In fact the people in authority are ONLY there because we ALLOW them to represent us. They are our servants!
There is no legally established distance from the police encounter that you must keep when you are observing. Although the police have discretion to decide how far you must be from them (for "safety"), WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO SEE what they are doing. Their 'discretion' should not require you to be so far that you can no longer observe.....Please get educated Megan.
The right of a citizen to peacefully 1) parade and gather or 2) demonstrate support or opposition of public policy or 3) express one's views is guaranteed by the freedom of speech and the right to peaceably assemble.
it was a public place, it does not matter if the cop told him to leave . he was allowed to be there by his constitutional rights. your wrong.
You are 10000% correct. 99% of the occupy vids in my experiance have been edit/cut/ect. to make the police look evil. I have been present during one arrest where the protestor broke the law and warned several times before he was arrested, then resisted and began to fight with the cop. But the vid was cut, chopped up and posted as POLICE BRUTALITY. No only are you very pretty but you are very smart, rare combo. Good for you...
With regard to the "Don't assume anything because we don't know what happened before this happened" remark: As a past Detective and based on the video in question, IF something occured before this incident, it is either 1. over with or 2. occured at a distant sufficient for this individual to stand where he was without interfering with the officers duties. Either way, the actions from this officer were unnecessary and is called Brutality. Please think before you post. Thank you.
Megan - did you really watch the video you are responding to? If so, you will note the man got pushed back aggresively by the officer; telling him to "Stay back" - not leave the area. Once the officer came at him, the man said something - with his hands up in a nonaggresive manner, then the officer grabbed him and through him on the ground, where he was subsequently arrested. Were you there? If not, than you cannot make the statements you did regarding this issue. Please think B4 U post. TY
Some cops have a passion to stalk you and make up accuses for nothing at all. So,you might find it hard to explain to a cop that you weren't doing anything bad at all.

He non-violently refused to move, so the officer nearly flips him onto the ground? That seems really really unnecessary.
