@sallylongpants uh, because they are US bases? look at something recent, Bosnia massacres, that managed to happen despite modern technology.
as far as military entitlements go, they are giving up more to serve the country than anyone else. now let's flip it, how is it politicians get far more entitlements than soldiers. simply compare the healthcare they both receive, and the benefits in general.
@sallylongpants lives and help those affected. These bases also help bolster the local economy of the Host nation which benefits them. This is what we call a symbiotic relationship.
As for your first comment, if it was up to the left, the military wouldn't be paid at all, based on their actions when the government shutdown was a threat a few weeks ago.
@sallylongpants well the fact that you don't even know the purpose of those bases pretty much destroys any argument you might have... Ill try to enlighten you. In a global conflict it is much easier to react when you have assets in place. this was a lesson we learned in wwii, If say ww3 breaks out then we can react more decisively and end said conflict before it gets out of control. Host nations don't seem to mind American bases as the recent Japan crisis, US assets were quickly utilized to save
@sallylongpants military is one of the roles of government, healthcare is not. you take out medicare, and start slimming down social security (so people can become more self sufficient). Government should never overexpand its duties as it has clearly done.
what can be said for people so invested in the military industrial complex ?? if u could read I said nothing of shutting down the DOD..in the past 10 yrs the DOD budget has doubled and that is just what is listed not to mention all the black ops and hidden budget items which pushes the total well over a trillion dollars per yr
@xadam2dudex Yea...lets just shut down the entire military in the US...the liberals say we don't need any military in America or overseas so lets just get rid of it all...DOD and ALL... and boost the welfare system so the unwilling to work will be provided for !!! Hey, there are liberals in America there that want that !!!
..and we do it because we want to sustain peace you idiots...maybe not for you but for us and our allies. We have learned what happens when the world has competing superpowers (WW1 WW2 Cold War). So if we can sustain one superpower you better be damn sure we will because it is good for our people and our allies peoples.
This video is way off base. US Defense Spending is about 4% of GDP as of 2010.
To put this in perspective, the US spent about 35% of its GDP during WWII and then emerged as the most powerful country in the world. Military spending can have enormous benefits. The US Army invented the internet (that's just one example). US Defense spending is far lower than it was during the Cold War
years, and only ten percent of what it was during WWII.
The US has a HUGE trade deficit! Eventuallt China will be the world's super power. A horrible thought... But with the promise of global fascism comes the hope of revolution.
You are correct, but they do not protect Americans or American interests. What good are the bases in Europe doing for the USA. Europeans seem to hate us, but some how e continue protecting them...why? Same with Korea, let the CHinese and Japanese deal with North Korea.
The same goes for the American media. During the 2008 Georgian-Russian war they (Fox, CNN) couldn't stop talking about all the horrible bombings the Russians were doing against Georgians in Gori, but didn't ever mention how the Georgians used Grad Rockets in civilian areas of Tskhinvali killing overwhelming amounts of Russian citizens.
This is very true, and I hate to admit it, and I hate hearing myself say this. But I trust Russia more than I do the USA. My government has sold out to the highest bidders. Who benefitted fro mthe War in Ira? Europe! Who benefits from our attacking Afghanistan? Europe.
Americans need to wake up, and stop acting like tough guys. It impresses no one, and we can no longer afford it.
I understand where American's frustration of their gov't comes from but the Russians have a far more authoritative and oppressive representative state. Russia Today will have bias just as any other international mainstream news (Al Jazzera, NBC, BBC etc.) does. That's why I typically recommend reading from independent sources.
"Who benefitted fro mthe War in Iraq? Europe! Who benefits from our attacking Afghanistan? Europe."
When we are talking about beneficiaries in war we are not talking completely about gov'ts or regions. The people who benefited directly from the Iraq war were largely contractors (KBR, Blackwater), the American military industry (Lockheed, General Dynamics) and oil companies (Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon). They made literally trillions of dollars.
we talk about Russia on average maybe every 2 weeks. last 2 things I heard about Russia was Mrs.Clinton talking to a Russian in Geniva wanting to get better relations with Russia an a damn pancake fest in Moscow lol.
Were trying to be friends with Russia so talk to your Russia government about that
besides the U.S know's how to take care of Troops unike Russia.
I mean hell the U.S Military will pay for your college, hell they'll give you extram money for having kids, even give your family a nice place to live. so many benifits in the U.S Military also the worlds Largest all Volinter military.
O by the way the American Media bashes on the military at least 1 a week lol.
Very Interesting, and informative. The part about the Lithuanian Airbase was an eye-opener, how many other bases are there that are secret?
Apparently US Military Spending this year, will top the $1trillion mark, and it also looks like Obama is going to actually raise it by 3%. That is more than almost every other country combined.
I wonder how long it'll be till the next trumped up war so the military can get more spending?
Russia is Anti-America so you know their News Coverage would reflect that.
RT makes everything seem so extreme it's a joke Of course we would spend to have the #1 military in the world...To keep Asshole countrys like Russia and China and so forth at bay.
it look like american is so desperate.

US military spending isn't crippling america, entitlement programs are. these constitute 3 times more spending than the military budget.

the US needs to close all the overseas bases except maybe something like Guam and all the wars ended and all the new military weapons systems halted
