I actually have a question about the speed sensor. Is the output a unipolar square with an amplitude as high as 14V or is it something else? I am in the need of specs of a general speed sensor. Will these specs be the same for an Acura TL 2003? Can I easily follow the wiring up into the engine compartment? Sorry for the bombardment of questions but I am curious and also am acquiring the signal to get speed data from it. Are there any other types of easily found sensors in a typical car? Thanks.
@182emabee We currently do not have a video that shows you how repair this part on this particular vehicle. If you have a Haynes or a Chiltons manual it may show you in there.
Hi,I need to replace speedometer on my 2005 honda accord 2.4L coope... I found speedometer that was taken from 2005 Honda Accord 3.0L sedan, will that work,or it has to be from 2.4L coope only???Thank you!!!
@rustamkaitov If they look the same and are the same style they should work. You could also call the dealer with your VIN# and they could certainly tell you if they are interchangeable. Hope this helps you out.Have a great day!
@1aauto thanks for the replay, it was my VSS after all. Now my gas gauge doesn't move up and down it works like it used to. Btw why does a car hesitate....
@jhdezjr That could be something as simple a bad spark plug wire. If you haven't changed them in a while you may want to change the plugs and wires on the car. Hope this helps you out.
@Pgarcia1121 You may want to check the fuse going to it and also look for a bad ground or wire that could be broke causing it not to work. If the speedometer works fine, then it shouldn't be the VSS.
I have a 95 Accord EX sedan with an I-4 Vtec automatic. The car is in limp mode and it doesn't shift past second gear. Also, my speedometer doesn't work. Could this be a faulty VSS, ECU, TCU, and/or instrument cluster? I am willing to replace all four because it would still be cheaper than purchasing and installing a new transmission. Please help!!! Btw great video.
I have a 95 Accord. Is it safe to drive with a bad vss for a week or so? When Im on the FWY the spedo goes from 65 to zero then the d4 light blinks and check engine light comes on. Seems to drive ok though...
By the way.. love the videos! Thank you so much! Question... How do I know if it is the speed sensor and not a problem in the cables running to the sensor? My is at zero when I start it, then it jumps to 20 mph as soon as I accelerate and sits there. Occasionally, it jumps up and down... Then at times it jumps back to the correct speeds and follows me as I accelerate or decelerate, after which it typically goes back to 20mph and stays there. I have a Honda Accord '96 V6.
@thesuzyloo A bad cable would cause that symptom. Unfortunatly sometimes it's not easy to tell until you replace it. I would probably try the cable first and if it still acts up it would more than likely be the sensor then.
@ehowards You may want to start by checking the fuses to see if they are good. If they are, then check the connection to the VSS sensor on your Nissan Altima, to see if it's plugged in correctly.
my honda was work at times and at time not got a 95 accord v4 and a mechanic looked at it and said he replaced it but it still does it a bit less now but still have a problem, any help?
Would you be able to make a video showing how to replace the VSS on a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, 3 speed automatic, please? Or, can you tell me how to replace it? And is there any other things that I have to remove to get to the VSS? Thank you.
I have changed the speed sensor twice and I still have the same problem. the mechanic said that the thing underneath the speed sensor (between the sensor and the transmission) might be broken. I didn't understand what he meant but I saw on manual transmission (mine is automatic) that the sensor comes with a whole assembly that goes inside the transmission. is there such a thing that sits between the sensor and the transmission and if so what is it called? I greatly appreciate your response!
I have a 95 accord ex and the speedmometer isn't working at all how do i test it to make sure or could it be the wheel speed sensor? Please help me asap.
for any 96 accord owners that dont have the V6 engine check ur passenger side under the hood literally if u move the air filter out of the way you can see it right in the back of the motor....it took me forever to see it..but the problem is i cant get any tools down there to reach the bolts(mind you, one of the bolts is entirely on the opposite side where you can barely reach it with any tool.
I have a '95 accord ex (vtec engine) and I couldn't find it. I noticed on the video my battery is on the passenger side instead of the driver side, so would the sensor be on the other side as well??
Thanks a bunch! Haynes didn't give the greatest description as to where it is, but you guys saved me a bunch of time. Thanks again! '96 Accord 6cyl Auto
it should be the same concept just on the opposite side of the engine best location i can describe is find your distributor go towards the fire wall and down on top the tranny and you should see it
would a bad ABS sensor set the ABS light on?? i have a 02 civic si and the driver axle was replaced and after that the ABS light went on. The old axle's teeth were grinded up because the lower ball joint ate the teeth because the lower ball joint popped up out of place rubbing against the axle teeth and now the teeth are new on the new axle and the lights on. so bad sensor maybe??
Thanks that video is really helpful. Do we also need to buy the metal looking part that attaches to the speed sensor that you installed in this video?
@CheckItDontWreckIt82 If you are referring to the shaft that goes in before the sensor bolts on it does come with the sensor that you would buy from us.
@1aauto I have a 1995 honda accord v6 ex 2.7L and it recently started to shift late at higher rpm, such as 2or3k rpm to hit 2nd gear i belive and it didnt seem like the tach was showing the right speed could this be the VSS that is causing this? thanks

@DarkGiuseppe I'm not sure on the volts. A service or a Chiltons manual should give you all of the specs about the voltage on your speed sensor.

Does the speed sensor in a car control the gas gauge, cause my gas gauge goes up and down sometimes ever since my speed sensor broke...
