Why is every one so obsessed with comparing 700 Raptors to every 450? The 450 is a light weight race orientated bike. The Raptor is a Lower reving low maintenance trail orientated machine. The Raptor is used to win the Dakar and the Australian Safari because it can go the distance. Horses for courses. If all you do is drag race people for fun I feel sorry for you, you are missing out on what riding is about.
@kevinely7 depends on what year, on the older ones you unplug ur cdi box and cut the light blue wire then you ground it to the frame, but on my 2011 700r se you cant do a damn thing... no ones figured it out yet
I have a raptor 700, no doubt both bikes are wicked but when they are both stock and your talking about a straight line drag, it really all comes down to driver, both bikes are pretty equal
I got a 700 raptor stock 2008 just bought it, I dont think I hit 80 mph but around 75 for sure I raced vs a 450 Honda and he won me on top end, and a banshee full modded he kicks my ass, Im probly gonna put a 3 mod monster kit, with a hot cam stage 2, and Raptor dont have a rev limiter when they rev to max they lose power they are made for low and midrage its a trail bike if you want top end and Over rev you need a cam and pipes and a air box so it doesnt choke on top end

Take off in second about half throttle and when the front end started dropping down hit 3rd and short shift it through 5th.

bout the same, the 04-05 were only 439cc's but they had a higher compression piston, when the bumped the cc's up to 449 in 06, they dropped the compression a little, they are basically equal.
a 350 raptor can keep up with a yfz... i had a 350 before, and now i got a 450, and let me tell you, if u beat a 450 with ur raptor 350, the rider of the 450 SUCKS VERY BADLY!!!! a raptor 350 and yfz 450 is absolutly not comparable
@johnnyski83 Raptor 350 has the old reliable warrior 350 drive-train. Warrior's were the best selling atv of all time (Yamaha Epic website). while arguably the best all around-reliable 4 stroke of all time it by far wasnt the fastest or prettiest but it was as close to bullet-proof as it gets and ya in 6th gear given a long dirt road you could hit 60 mph on one but that is wound all the way up and takes a mile to get it there. i have 11 Yamaha'a and their old 350 is great but not a racer
the 22 inch tires explain the extra top speed and the spark arrestor and air box lid will make a big difference do the same to the raptor and it will be the other way around and beat it worse

thats true for short drags, but if you're racing to the top of 5th gear no rider skill is going to make up for that. i lost to alot of quads in 300ft that i woulda caught and passed if i had 100 more feet guaranteed

if your careful, it shouldnt be a big idea, if your small and stupid, you can easily hurt yourself on it, i would suggest getting something alot smaller and learning, then moving up to the faster bikes. but you certainly can learn on one. just be very careful, it can get away from you easy.
whats makes the YFZ faster is the 22 inch tires. bigger tires = higher top speed. and on top of that the arrestor is out and lid taken off of the YFZ.

well the yfz def had the advantage. Not only did the yfz have the spark arrestor out, and airbox lid off, but it had 22" tires! Which from experience decreases acceleration, but adds quite a few more mph! Both are awesome fourwheelers though!
anything can be made road legal even a pedal bike if you gotta title to it. To make stuff street legal just put mirrors, muffler, turn signals, brake lights, tag light, headlights, and go to the dmv to get a tag and get insurance oh yea a horn. Basically look at your state's driver license manual and it will tell you what a vehicle has to have to ride on your local streets

Ass backwards. the raptor is geared more towards top speed. If you read dirtwheels, you know why the YFZ owner removed the spark arrestor. The YFZ is really opens up with less exhaust restriction. Granted, the raptor has much more room for power improvement.
atv140 the 450 is faster cause the compression is crazy high where the raptor has low compression. its not always the bigger motor that wins it is how they are built.
yeah exactly the 450 is a race motorm the 700 is more trail orientated. only drawback with the 450 is they need rebuilds just as often as a two wheeled 450
no 450 quads have to be rebuilt more, they have another 140 pounds on the motor making more stress. get your facts right. quads need more maintnence becuase of this (race quads)

Raptors are more for trail riding and such and the the yfz's are more for the track and racing. I've watched some videos and I would have to agree. but when your up on the trails it doesn't really matter whose is faster cuz you're gonna be doing the same speed.
I'm not sure about the predator's size but it doesn't matter. I mean look at the vid, the yfz is a 450cc(?) and the raptor a 686cc and the yfz won. proves that engine size doesn't matter. This race is bullshit. anyone who reads dirtwheels will know why. the yfz really opens up if the resistance on the exhaust is lessened. the description says the spark arrester is removed. It won't quite make the same amount of difference as a slip-on scilencer would, but it is still an advatage. It would be about the same as a mild tune on the raptor's ignition timing, or fuel injecton.

Took of the lid & spark arrester on the 700 and put some 22's on it and the yfz will not win again.

To make stuff street legal just put mirrors, muffler, turn signals, brake lights, tag light, headlights, and go to the dmv to get a tag and get insurance oh yea a horn. Basically look at your state's driver license manual and it will tell you what a vehicle has to have to ride on your local streets

my banshee tops out at 88 mph (141kph) but i have it piped ,port and polished head and carbs put in it .. the raptor and yfz has a faster top speed than me but when i race them i smoke them like a cheap cigar.. they could beat me top speed but in a q mile they would be spanked.. i know buy experience

The YFZ has 5 titanium valves,2 cams,11.4 compression and weighs 350lbs.
The Raptor has 4 valves, 1 cam,9.2 compression and weighs 396lbs.
So the YFZ has a more efficient way of using all its power. I have a YFZ so I'm happy about that.

Ass backwards. the raptor is geared more towards top speed. If you read dirtwheels, you know why the YFZ owner removed the spark arrestor. The YFZ is really opens up with less exhaust restriction. Granted, the raptor has much more room for power improvement.

atv140 the 450 is faster cause the compression is crazy high where the raptor has low compression. its not always the bigger motor that wins it is how they are built.

no 450 quads have to be rebuilt more, they have another 140 pounds on the motor making more stress. get your facts right. quads need more maintnence becuase of this (race quads)

hey jsam1986, I have a raptor 700 with full exhaust HMF, P-Flow Pro design, HMF power commander and I beat all the YFZ inclued YFZ with full exhaust yoshi, and mod cam, and also P-Flow K&N,...
I also beat (more easy) LTR 450 with full exhaust yoshi, P-Flow K&N, power commander DynoJet, and a cherrybound! (he is ajusted on the Dyno)

Raptors are more for trail riding and such and the the yfz's are more for the track and racing. I've watched some videos and I would have to agree. but when your up on the trails it doesn't really matter whose is faster cuz you're gonna be doing the same speed.

I'm not sure about the predator's size but it doesn't matter. I mean look at the vid, the yfz is a 450cc(?) and the raptor a 686cc and the yfz won. proves that engine size doesn't matter. Plus, the outlaw has the KTM engine in it and is supposedly the fastest accelerating quad on the market right now.

This race is bullshit. anyone who reads dirtwheels will know why. the yfz really opens up if the resistance on the exhaust is lessened. the description says the spark arrester is removed. It won't quite make the same amount of difference as a slip-on scilencer would, but it is still an advatage. It would be about the same as a mild tune on the raptor's ignition timing, or fuel injecton.
