@Invicta1298 because British are the least likely to take offence coz were the greatest people and most understanding on earth. lets say they made the bad guys german. German citizens wouldnt take it well :D
We were there for this in 2007 - we were behind and to the right of the band as the vid starts, under the trees - having just flown in from OZ at 7am that morning. Dropped bags off at hotel and caught the train to Piccadilly - had no idea where we were, had to ask a policeman, "Where's the Trooping ceremony?". Brilliant ceremony, loved the bands.
It'd be fuuny if phillip came bursting throuhg one of the windows after some chandeller swinging "TALLY HO LIZZY!!" "PHIILLIP PLEASE?! YOU'RE NOT CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW!! NO SOMEONE PLEASE CATCH HIM BEFORE HE MAKES A TOTAL ARSE OF HIMSELF AND DOES HIMSLEF AN INJURY!!" :P
this would be fun if harry we suddenly see one of the windows of buckingham palace shatter with prince phillip jumping out after swinging off a chandeleer! "TALLY HO LIZZY!!" "PHILIP YOU ARE NOT CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW NOW SOMEONE KINDLY CATCH HIM BEFORE HE DOES HIMSLEF AN INURY!"
I can see Prince Phillip yelling "JACK SPARROW"!!!!! With our dear Jacking saying to him in reply "There should be a Captain in their someplace your majesty".
A giant waterwheel comes BOOM out of nowhere with who duelling on top of it!? Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and none other than Prince Charles with Captain Jack Sparrow's leggs sticking out of it.
"This is the day you almost got the Queen to abdicate."
@pnoyguitar If we used the songs we play now back in days the the enemy would just surrender without fighting. I mean what would you do when you hear the Imperial March playing and the next minute you see a line of red coats appearing from over the hill and they just keep coming with more and more lines?
@ViDeOMaStErPaUl well. back then we Americans would just kill them. lol in all honesty tho, Scottish ancestry here, I have a lot of love for the United Kingdom.
@ViDeOMaStErPaUl The marine Corps band shows up out of no where and Starts playing The Stars and Stripes forever as A few hundred Continental Marines Storm the beaches, Wiping out entire Batalions, using Unconventional Warfare, the Continental Marines were arguably the most dangerous fighting force in the revolutionary war
@lgmmrm And yet they still got their asses kicked by the British.
The french saved the Americans without them the war would have been won by the British simple as that. Americans had to resort to killing men in their sleep, how low could you get?
Its a small british force against a large professional french force and a untrained numerous american force.
@ViDeOMaStErPaUl umm, it was a MASSIVE british Force (Remember, compared to the entire army of britain it was small, but overall it was HUGE, even compared to today's Royal Army and US Army,) PLUS VERY professional German Mercenaries, against a relatively SMALL Continental Army, and, towards the end (ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE END), a Medium-sized Fleet of the French Navy, not to mention maybe 1,000,000 Militia AT THE MOST!!! plus, no matter what the french did, we had most Natives on our side
@lgmmrm Ok in those days it was a fairly small british force against a smaller continental army but remember your lot was running away every chance they could and couldn't stand on equal footing with the British.
I read that the British troops where not even professional when fighting and after losing the war they made things stricter in the military.
Oh and did you know the British that fought in 1812 where veterans of the independence war. Kinda shows you who would have won without the french.
@ViDeOMaStErPaUl I think you are also forgeting about Spain and the Dutch. Why would you stand on equal footing when you are out manned and out gunned? That's just poor strategy, lining up in a field and shooting it out is just dumb for both sides. Everyone learned a lot from those wars, including "it's always nice to have more friends".
Nice to have the best Drill but no effective in frontline hahahaha go away Imperialist hahaha What we have to do with the tradition anyway we are savage and kill each other to show our superiority... Anyway good music at all.
@depmarine100 you try playing a musical instrument, keeping in time, playing the right notes, under pressure, and marching in a straight line! British Troops are the best at drill - anywhere! FACT.
@terminator6267 Well if it wasn't for the old brits and their BALLZ to go out and conquer and explore in name of Lord and Land our world would look IMMENSLY DIFFERENT! and they were the first modern pirates so to say so yes they are entitled to sing this song xD
The Americans also enjoyed financial support from Holland, who Britain was fighting in areas of Asia at this time. In fact Britain was fighting Royal France, Spain, the United Provinces (Holland) AND the revolutionaries in the 13 colonies.
Note also that the revolutionaries only took up arms after the British army had secured their safety from the French by capturing New France (French Canada and much of the Mid-West) under Wolfe at Quebec.
@TheSittonator, I always took Independence Day as a rebel against King George III and not against Britain itself. Not sure how Britain's feel about King George III but Americans see him as a douche.
and btw, yea, we had the French's help... but you guys had plenty of native Americans.. Hessians, and Loyalists.. we had the french, some supply help from the Spanish, but dont say we won just cause we had the french, and fyi, we didn't always announce our arrival from 10 miles away ^^
Dude - you were fighting the rotten end of the british army.
The cutthroats, the theives, the psychos, malingerers spending all their time on sick patrol, and any new guys that may have been sent in.
You out numbered us and knew the terrain, not to mention Alllied with the professional armies of France. While we sent very little in way of reinforcement due to our warring in india;
And STILL you needed to starve us for weeks before you beat us.
They both do. The massed bands are usually present at any form of military tattoo, but the RM Bands are usually available for hire - there is a waiting list for them because they're extremely popular
this strikes me as kind of odd considering the fact that, in the movie, the folks in English uniforms are somewhat unfavorably portrayed. next, we`re going to see them playing the Braveheart and Patriot themes.
all the films you list are crappy films were Americans twist history. The English take no notice of them especially the patriot were aparently a christian country burns down churches and the Americans won with no help from the French at all. You need to learn that mel gibson is anti English he will make any peice of twisted shit if it means we get a bad name out of it.
never mentioned by the yanks that they only won there independence because our armies were cut off by the french, if we had wiped out france 30 years or so before perhaps we would still be in charge of the Thirteen Colonies
Dont forget that the Americans adopted the red indians Gurilla warfare style hiding in bushes and ambushing... it was an advanced fighting style of the period... but it is true the yanks asked fo help from the french.
No you have failed to see the point Americans constantly boast we won our right for Independace and how that beat the british as farmers and pitchforks... You won the war far and square no denying But you americans dont appreciate the alliances you have... and you wonder why ur the most hated nation in the world??
I had a feeling he didnt like the Brits. The Patriot's probably the only film I actually felt a little offended by. Braveheart was ok but the English were still portrayed as ugly old rapists
why duid you feel offended is it because you a brit or just a christian? If your a christian dont be offended because thats what mel gibshit wants because it means more people start hating the English. I felt offended as a brit because the British Empire was all about creating a future world of peace but in the film we were made out to look like nazis.
formation wasn't too bad.. totally agree with lines though.. maybe shorter ranks would have made it easier?! although that's the problem with slow march i suppose.. and i am a current bandie LOL
But excellent tune.. shame i'm in a bugle band, would be awesome to play this.. Oh well
Then you're a fool. To look back into the past and say that it was the wrong thing to do is just ignorance.
By modern standards, yes, it is wrong. But they didn't know a fraction of the things we do now, so they can't exactly be expected to be as civilised as we are now.
"The past is like a foreign country, things are done differently there."
He is correct. In fact, most people in England at one time spoke mostly French with the only exception being the nobles who spoke the traditional Latin.
Also wrong, the nobles spoke French, the Clergy spoke Latin and the majority of people, the peasants, spoke (although very different from today's) English.
Bah, meant to say Clergy not Nobles lol. What I was alluding to was the fact that after William The Conqueror the prominent language in England was French though it is true that the illiterate held onto the more traditional Anglo-Saxon language.
The normans were not French, they were French speaking Vikings who had settled in Normandy many years before. The Normans who invaded were all ginger haired French speaking Vikings.
The "English" and I use the term loosely would also have an 'Empire' again used in its loosest sense in France under the Angevin Kings, but how much both of these were colonies or Empires is up for dispute. There was no legal framework to describe either the Normans or Angevins as either colonists or Empire builders
The "French" had direct control of a few miles around Paris, the rest of the "country" was controlled through a system of fickle and ever changing alliances and oaths.
It wasn't until the 1420's through numerous reforms that the France we know today started to become a singular nation.

Pretty much summed up
The war for indepenance is a big Deal for the Americans. They became their own country
They're GOING to big it up.
They won, yes, but it wasn't as amazing as portrayed they used their full might we used 1/5 or 1/4
Look at the British entanglements elsewhere.
I always say - had the British not extended their reach too far, they would have held the ground. But we did and lost because of our arrogance.
Shame on us.
But then, no one man should have that power.

If you're going to appeal modern attitudes to the past then you're just an idiot.
Were Medieval villages wrong for lynching witches?
Were the Roman's wrong for building an Empire over oppressed locals?
Were the Greeks wrong for taking young boys as lovers?

yes they were.

You mean like France?
alasrati 2 years ago
speaking of France did you happen to know that England at one time was a French colony
punkhippydude 2 years ago
Since when was England a colony of France? Wasnt it England that had colonies in France? (Calais..)
Kreik63 2 years ago
1066, the Norman Conquest, William the Conqueror, the Bayeux Tapestry, any of this ringing a bell?
England did have colonies in France later on.

He is correct. In fact, most people in England at one time spoke mostly French with the only exception being the nobles who spoke the traditional Latin.
Cassidan 2 years ago
Also wrong, the nobles spoke French, the Clergy spoke Latin and the majority of people, the peasants, spoke (although very different from today's) English.
RedcoatMic24 2 years ago
Bah, meant to say Clergy not Nobles lol. What I was alluding to was the fact that after William The Conqueror the prominent language in England was French though it is true that the illiterate held onto the more traditional Anglo-Saxon language.

Somebody termed English "Norman knights trying to seduce saxon bar maids..." that about sums up 'modern' English...
American is a whole other story

The normans were not French, they were French speaking Vikings who had settled in Normandy many years before. The Normans who invaded were all ginger haired French speaking Vikings.
The "English" and I use the term loosely would also have an 'Empire' again used in its loosest sense in France under the Angevin Kings, but how much both of these were colonies or Empires is up for dispute. There was no legal framework to describe either the Normans or Angevins as either colonists or Empire builders

I don't know which is worse: being invaded by the French or by a bunch of gingers.
alasrati 2 years ago
France was not even a coherent nation then.
The "French" had direct control of a few miles around Paris, the rest of the "country" was controlled through a system of fickle and ever changing alliances and oaths.
It wasn't until the 1420's through numerous reforms that the France we know today started to become a singular nation.

I love you Redcoat.
So many idiots think they can apply modern day norms and values to the past.
