  • cinematic masterpiece

  • 80's The golden age of anime. Every piece created during that era was absolute perfection. Each one had soul. Nowadays anime is more on consumer materialism, looooooooooooooong dragging episodes, talking sprees and glittery eye candy.

  • @lonewulffe I'll agree that there were more wonderful anime titles before the 00s rolled around, but I do recall a handful of bad 80s anime like MD Geist or ones that really haven't held up well as time has passed, like Project A-ko.

  • is it just me, or the animations greatly improve?

I just finished watching the SDF macross today, and in just 2 years the animations greatly improved!

  • Greatest anime movie in history. A classic 4 all time. Great song.

  • Best ending ever.

  • I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I actually LIKE this song sung by Minmei!

  • i cant stop seeing a bud wiser now

  • The producers of Evangelion release a new version everyother year, Why can't Shoji Kawamori produce an update version of Macross? I know some cast members died but the tracks can be used again.

  • @cmsahe

Why don't we make Godfather while we're at it?

Or Space Odyssey 2011? Or Star Wars.....wait.

    Some classics shouldn't be touched. ;_;

  • @cmsahe u know what is really needed, we need to know what happened with megaroad, i want a new one with hikaru misa and their kids.... my favorite couple in anything

  • I got this movie on VHS since i was 8 or something, swedish dub also on it =P

  • just to know if aliens that look like picollo with a tumor our best defense is J-POP

  • 5:02 and 5:39 NEVER fails to raise the hair on my arms.

  • @coconutstaple agreed!

  • This studio punked the hell out of what Disney ever did.

  • The animation and color in this movie still blow me away. It looks so beautiful.

  • Best ending to any movie, ever? It comes pretty close.

  • Support Macross Forever

  • What is Robotech?

  • @akamatani I don't understand why there are still some fellas keep mixing up the original Macross saga with other Macross canons like Macross Frontier, SDF Macross DYRL? and worse still the unrelated story canon Robotech. Please... check with wikipedia so as to get the facts straight. If u need to check the animes, I recommend u download them via BAKABT website. Google it.They have high-quality torrents mostly about them. It will help u alot. :Doh yeah, don't forget to seed accordingly too.

  • @akamatani "Robotech" was the Title given to american TV in the 80's that conjoined 3 different unrelated anime Tv series together making it seem like one story so it can pass U.S tv standard of having more than at least 100 episodes. rather than having 25 to 30 episodes which was acceptable in japan. one of the anime titles that was involved in the conjoined chain was the anime "MACROSS" which was considered the "first season" of ROBOTECH.

  • yeah. Put that on blue ray and a friend of mine (with a 100° TV) will have to get a crowbar just so he can finally see something else!

  • i love hikarus salute soooooooooo legendary!

  • All TIME best anime~!!! This is a sence once first watch, will deeply burned in the brain and can never be deleted. (alought it is since 1984, near 27 years ago) I love MACROSS (the first & original one only)!!!!!!

  • i want this song, can anyone tell me were i can find it?

  • @animal16365 you can get this song and others on the "Macross - The complete" Music CD box set.

3 cds of all the music from the movie, but it is a import.

  • is this an older version of macross frontier or something?

  • @TootiFrutiezProject Somewhat. If you remember the Great Space War that is alluded to during the opening credits, this is it. This was about 30-40 years before Frontier following the holocaust that wiped out the human population on earth. That is why they started to colonize, which eventually leads to Macross Plus, Macross 7 (rather terrible), and Frontier. Macross Zero is a prequel.

  • @TootiFrutiezProject Super Dimension Fortress: Macross (2009-2011) Macross Flashback 2012 (2012) Macross: Do You Remember Love (2030 / Historical Film) Macross Plus (2040) Macross Seven (2045-2046) Macross Seven: The Galaxy Is Calling Me (2046) Macross Dynamite Seven (2047) Macross Frontier (2059) Macross Frontier: The False Songstress (2059) Macross Frontier: The Wings of Goodbye (2059)
  • 1984年製作の日本アニメが

    今見ても凄いという現実。

    今は日本アニメも海外に外注してるから、この品質は出せない・・・。

  • @nullpointer88 It's the story before Macross Frontier.

  • It's a no brainer. This has to be made to a live action movie someday.

  • i like it because i don't have to bother with the translation i have seen it like a million times and it is clear. But what i hate is the old people the old ones that were born in the 1940's etc. because they tell you what not to watch cause it is too childish your old enough it dam s**** i am 31 yrs old and i like anime

  • Vanessa without glasses looks like Misa!

  • This is my oldest anime memory and yet this is older then man what a time growing up

  • Here in North Texas my friends and I were big MACROSS fans even before Robotech came into the scene. I really HATE all the Harmony Gold music, should have at least done translations of the beautiful original Japanese music.

  • ヤックデカルチャー

  • My brother had the VHS english version of the film. Despite the years that have past since the last time I saw it, I still remmember it very clearly. Howvere, this segment of that film that is shown here is actually from the original uncut version. Now I want to see the original version.

  • I was and still am a Macross fans but I haven't watch any of the new series since the original boardcast in HK back in 83-84. This movie bring back a lots of good memory when I was young :)

  • 5:32 Budweiser can in place of missile.

  • Still epic after all these years!!

  • Trully Epic! If not for Harmony Gold I would have never known of Macross, but for obscuring the truth with their wattered down version, I can never forgive them! Long live Macross!

  • This was the first song that got me into anime songs and its still one of my favorites even to this day. Love the song, the series, and especially the badass valkyries.

  • You don't have to be a scientist toi know the difference. MACROSS franchise continuity is the best. Great work Mr. Shoji Kawamori (the father of MACROSS)

  • Many care about Robotech . Yes we all know where it came from, how the other stories had no relation to the other. But nevertheless they were good. Its because of Robotech that really did it for Japanese Animation in the West followed by Vampire Hunter D, and Akira. Sure Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Voltron, Galaxy Express 999 and other good old ones were good... But none of em did it like Macross aka Robotech... Followed by the others ^_^

  • not to mention that they replaced Orguss with this MOSPEADA Crap!

  • @DemBonesRiley Hey hey, Mospeada on its own is good series. We're all original series fans here so let's uhhh...kick Robotech instead, yeah!

  • @JamesBond77: @JamesBond77 You need to get some facts straight there buddy. If it wasn't for Robotech, Anime wouldn't be as prevalent as it is now. Macek did a damned good job keeping the translations faithful. Much better than that kiddified Dragonball shit.

Harmony Gold is NOT blocking the new Macross movie dumbass. They are working with the same people who did Frontier to continue the Robotech storyline.

  • @northerncrisp but they did block macross frontier the false songstress. lol an will block it all can u send me the info on your facts?

  • I performed the drawing of here alone

After movie completion, he was hospitalized with overwork

  • Vrlitwhai/Britai was pretty cool.

  • sniff sniff

  • purotokuchuraaa!

  • You can convert thiss or any youtube video to an mp3 at ezmp3grab..com

  • プロトカルチャアアアアアア

  • This was the worst anime. I'm assuming there is some show or other movies or something? Hopefully they are better.

  • @PGTRegard I hate to disagree with you there, but imho Macross is THE best anime of all time. It has pretty good storytelling and character development, not to mention the animation is quite good with something coming from the early 80s

  • @PGTRegard lol...you really think so? This was practically the one that started everything off back in 1984 and it still holds it's own to this day...or maybe you weren't born around back or too young to fully appreciate what value it holds in anime history.

  • @KNIGHTSYS Yeah I wasnt even born in 84. My opinion was pretty unbiased when i watched it, and I still felt it was pure crap regardless of its history. Wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt for the Jpop interludes.

  • @PGTRegard Hey it's Macross, and Macross will always be that way.

  • Dude I saw this movie for the first time yesterday, i swear this must be ANIME at its finest

  • no matter how many times I see this. Minmay looks so heroic singing her song.

  • This piece is so moving. Touches me each time...

  • 1:58 FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • MACROSS: Do You Remember Love

  • A anime that is close to perfection. This movie had made history and it should be put into Hall of Fame/

  • @richard2382 i didnt watch the movie, but i agree with you, the animation was good, and the story talks about how humanity survived extinction and tells us that sometimes, old things(this time the song, its a protoculture song) can be useful and can even save our lives.

  • @arnyjk I recalled that a DYRL DVD was released during the 25yr anniversary in Japan (DYRL was never released in the US till later). I hope that they can release an updated version like how Zeta's "New Translation" was released a couple of years back with some amazing new art. Guess for now, I'll live with Macross F.

  • This movie NEEDS to come out on Blu Ray, ASAP.

This movie looked stunning on crappy nth generation VHS fansubs and youtube videos, seeing it in 1080p will probably make my eyes explode.

  • I have to agree with you, man. Blu-Ray quality DYRL would be the most awesome thing ever in the history of Macross. :P

  • @arnyjk I would gladly give my eyes, to see this on Blu Ray :)

  • Macross DYRL was ahead of it's time as far as animation quality and design. What I really enjoy about DYRL was the mecha and character design. Even Zeta Gundam that was released just a year after (I think) could not compare to DYRL's craftsmanship.

  • @cwlouis1 Well, of course. A two hour movie is going to have a damn sight bigger budget to make everything look perfect (and in this movie, it looks PERFECT), Zeta Gundam has to spread a TV budget over 50 episodes. It's look good for it's time, but it still looks terribly cheap in places.

  • @manmiles Totally agree. Zeta was a composit of TV and updated animation. IMO, I wish they retold the entire UC timeline with modern animation styles and updates. I think if someday Bandai and Bigwest wish "modernize" the the originak Macross or DYRL.. it will be a real eye candy.. =)

  • ^-^

  • i like that giant robot form of the macross....it just gets creepy the way it flys around a battle with non humanoid ships in that lifeless way.

  • I have it, and some

  • BUDWEISER! HAHA

  • is this version on dvd?

  • @kejaris yes, its on dvd, i dont know how hard it is to get, im gona get mine coyped so i can have a spare

  • ah man. i want a veritech

  • @Meltedchair513 In the Macross universe, the mechas are called VARIABLE FIGHTERS or VALKYRIES. Only in robocrap the ugly name "veritech" is used.

  • Oboete imasu ka me to me ga atta toki wo

Oboete imasu ka te to te ga fureatta toki

Sore wa hajimete no ai no tabidachi deshita

    I LOVE YOU SO

  • The ultimate battle of Humanity was won... just by being human. I like the idea.

  • It's so awesome that she can sing while people are killing one another in an epic space battle!

  • Ups!!! Somebody lose his head. 1:57

  • okay so im almost finished with the original series of macross and well i really wanna see this movie afterwards with the improved animation and altered storyline but i cannot find any where literally anywhere on the whole internet where i can watch it without downloading it if anyone can give me a site with good HQ id be unbelievably grateful and may just give you my first born child as a way of thank

  • @twotonesamurai you are probably gonna have to buy it online, but I believe its only in Japanese, but if you don't have a problem with that, then you'll enjoy it

  • A truly epic story of super dimensional proportions !

  • I don't know why but this song always puts me in a semi-sad wistful nostalgiac state

  • very sweet song

  • The actual writer of this song was found dead in Japan a couple of months ago. He hanged himself.

  • 1:59 hahahahahahahaha

  • im trying to find a macross thing, when i say thing i donno if its a movie, series. its back when some guy is a camera man and he goes into space and finds a chick, the chick stays on earth with him and this bad ass guy with an awesome ship fights for her. if you know anything about this plz ONLY POST ON MY CHANNEL IT WILL MEAN ALOT(I CAN SUBSCRIBE TO YZOU IF U WANT)!!!!!

  • @cowmilkproductions I believe you are talking about Macross II: Lovers Again, that should be it.

  • I've watched this scene over 300 times and if I had only 2 hours till I die, definitely I would like to see this again before I close my eyes ...

  • this is great stuff...harmony gold really did a hack job to this series.

  • i want this song so bad, can anyone tell me where i can get it

  • Aw man!

This movie was my first anime. My mother bought it to me with swedish dub when I was 12.

    Nostalgi!

  • @johren86 Samma här fast jag var 8 eller nått, har den fortfarande på VHS och DVD

  • eines der herausragendes viedeo der anime geschichte ich grieg heut noch nach sovielen jahren gänsehaut wenn ich es seh und es höre

  • Music soothes the savage Zentradi, but I could never get why it always had to be upbeat J-pop and not something more rebellious like punk, hip-hop, or hard rock.

  • @cadman2300 Because it's japanese

  • @Terrorkarel I'm pretty sure the animators and producers had easy access to western music in the 1980s or had their own equivalents. I chose them because I think they have a stronger think-for-yourself message in them than a love song.

  • @cadman2300 But thats not what it is about.

  • @cadman2300 Because it's supposed to be beautiful and universal.

And this isn't J-pop so much as the idol phenomenon that was prevalent in Japan at the time.

  • ojala se pudieran detener las guerras asi de facil ... con una cancion ...

  • Greatest anime and greatest characters ever.

  • I loved it when anime looked like this it was absolutely great, now all this CGI stuff and it is just not as good. Shows like this, like Robotech, Macross, DBZ, Gundam, NGE and other great series can't live up to their potential without old school animation.

  • I love how that song to the Protoculture aliens was just a popular love song.

  • i had the NES game LOL

  • the dubbed version is so much better

  • you can see the damage the macross has taken after bedolzas fortress explodes

  • OMG. I'm a Robotech fan and I never saw this movie. Is just sacrilege in my part. Is there an english version of this movie?

  • Macross rules

  • the English translation^^

  • Right now, I hear your voice

    saying "Come here to me."

Just when it seemed loneliness had beaten me.

    Right now, I see you

    walking over to me.

I close my eyes and wait for you to come

Till yesterday, it seemed filled only with tears.

    But now my heart is

  • Do you remember? The time when our eyes first met? Do you remember? The time when our hands first touched? That was the very first time I set out on the journey of love. I love you so

  • Right now, I can feel your gaze

though you're not here with me.

And in my body a warmth begins to glow.

Right now, I believe in your love,

    so won't you please

watch over me from so far away?

Till yesterday it seemed filled only with tears.

    Now the world is...

  • I'm not alone anymore now that you're here with me

  • This is a movie dude, not to sure about the name but it was released on a remasterized version in 2000, and yeah ia agree, the animation is a lot better that it was in the tv series, i love it.

  • What on Earth is this? This is not the Robotech/Macross I know. The animation is quite beautiful though.

  • It's from a Macross movie called Macross : Do You Remember Love ? Macross : DYRL? is a retelling of the original Macross story. Both have nothing to do with robocrap by the way. Harmony Gold, the company that ripped the the original Macross storyline to create robotech : Macross saga is blocking the release of the movie worldwide since the fuckers working there fear Macross superioty in term of storytelling, animation, characters, etc compared to the poor little robotech.

  • can you believe the animation in this movie? it's all hand drawn/no computer assistance and it's beautiful... PERFECT! It must've taken forever... truly awesome.

  • This movie was so good! And this song is epic!

  • i saw this movie long ago when i was young, omfg nostalga ftw, seriously, Macross is a great collection. downloaded all of macross now

  • such an epic battle song fit so well with what they were trying to do!

  • Ah.. the golden age of anime

  • can't imagine how they achieved this 25 years ago. for a 2 hours film!!!!

  • Only 1 word... AWESOME ^_^, 5 stars =D

  • ouch, no lyrics?

  • You want the lyrics? suka ta de ni goo. E no ba de, Coco a ni ma. I love you so.

  • Just imagine if Kawamori would decide to remake the whole Macross TVA series. That would be awesome.

  • It's hard to imagine a hand drawn anime looking even marginally better than this. This is a ridiculously high standard.

  • everyone has his or her own difficulties. please don't call it a shame so easily before you know the details.

  • sry i should've said it that way if u took it offensive, i meant it was sad because he composed such a beautiful song like this one and could've made more

  • my heart skips a beat when I listen to this song when I first watched it way back

  • Such a beautiful song

Do you remember when our eyes first met?

  • I find it ironic that an anime from 1984 has better animation that Robotech Shadow Chronicles.

  • robocrap is a piece of shit compared to Macross. Why are you so surprised ?

  • Well compared to Macross at least Robotech in my opinion had better music LOL. But yeah story wise Macross is wayyy..... better!

  • @JamesBond77 This (the equivalent from the series) is the best scene in the whole thing and in Macross she's "kyun kyun"ing with her happy pop instead of singing We Will Win. That's unforgivable. Armageddon should be much more somber. Even this song fits a lot better.

  • @JamesBond77 you was right this is so much better than robotech,is this complete here? wich is the first episode?is only in japanese

  • @contemasaro Macross : Do You Remember Love? is a retilling of the original Macross story (Super Dimension Fortress Macross). DYRL? is considered a movie within the Macross universe. SDF Macross is avalaible in english but the dub is horrible. So I suggest you the sub version. But Macross DYRL? is avalaible in spanish.

  • @JamesBond77

    Watching SDF Macross : macrosshare(DOT)com/2007/03/serie-super-dimension-fortress-macross(DOT)html

    For Macross DYRL? : macrosshare(DOT)com/2008/04/movie-macross-do-you-remember-love-hd(DOT)html

  • @nytrospawn AMEN!!!!

  • @nytrospawn

Of course. They are made in 2 different countries. DYRL is made in Japan while Shadow Chronicles is made in the US as a continuation on on Robotech.

DYRL and Shadow Chronicles have nothing in common at all.

  • @nytrospawn yeah this 1984 movie is much better than the manga these days !!

  • @nytrospawn well, this is the "compilation" movie.

is this really from 1984? I thought the original Macross was from 1984..

    well either way. Robotech.. lolz

  • @nytrospawn ah those were the times... back then they still put love and effort into it. good times

  • @nytrospawn it must be because this one is Made in Japan

  • my all time fav. anime song. this was the song that got me hooked on anime/jpop song. this song still kicks azz all these years. sad to hear the composer of this song had past away.....rip. ur song will live on...

  • Comment removed

  • R.I.P.

  • Composer of this song, Kazuhiko Kato passed away in last week.

    Music is forever...R.I.P.

  • This vid is always classical. no matter 20 years ago or now, I still love this scene!

    R.I.P.

  • r.i.p

  • I love this movie, my kids have seen it and they like it too. No generation gap there!

  • Macross Committed Suicide in an hotel room, hanging, leaving a note (which is we don't know)

    poor guy....R.I.P.

  • Macross still has such great music. I dont think gundam will ever compare to that. But like everyone else is saying, they each are in their own stories and symbols

  • i think the end of this movie is somehow sad, because lynn minmay, does anyone know what happens to her afterwards, does she find someone to lover her?

  • No, Minmay never finds someone, after all, Hikaru is the only man she ever cared for.

Canonically, she disappears in 2016 onboard the Megaroad-01 with Hikaru and Misa.

  • me likey bothy of them-mie...but in terms of versus---gundam wins hands down...although nuclear missiles are equipped on a full armed battroid

  • Gundam developed gundams and Macross developed macrosses

  • Gundam developed mecha

    Macross pretty much perfected it

  • I'd say Gundam developed the REAL mecha, and Macross expanded on Gundam's themes. But it's hard to compare the two since they've got their own respective symbolism and mythologies.

  • That's true! Its a shame Gundam over time has evolved to an unrealistic mecha franchise. Hopefully Gundam Unicorn does a good job of bringing back Gundam as the believable mech series I remember the first one being. But good point 23rd centuryboy! Macross and Gundam are however the series that got a lot of SF fans into anime.

  • And hopefully, the next Macross series will return to a grittiness last seen in Macross Plus and DYRL. Macross Frontier was a little colorful and focused on high schoolers. Not that there's a problem with that, it just didn't really capture the feel of the original series.

I think a saga with the Anti-UN Pirates would be interesting, you'd have a more human driven drama, rather than a punchout with aliens.

  • Exactly...I'm a HUGE fan of both Gundam and Macross. But I won't even go there when it comes down to comparisons. Its just not right to say one is better than the other. I just see them as 2 Mecha anime's that went slightly different directions. Sadly Gundam is straying from its path and now we have stuff like SEED. I watch both SEED series 2-3 times and It just doesnt compare to old gundam's or Macross. At least Macross keeps true and always incorporates nostalgia from past series.
