If you wanted to attempt the wrong way in a safe fashion...Strip the wires on the end of an ac adapter, then attach them to the device, then plug it in...That way you are out of harms way.
That's one of the funniest fail science experiments I've ever seen. Reminds me of my care-free days in high school when my friends and I would do stupid shit like this.
Seriously, before you do any other stupid stunts, I advise looking up the construction of your devices before trying to make them run on an improvised mockery of the original design.

I know. This was after our first introduction demonstration in electricity before reading the chapters on it. Now that the school year is over, we know a lot more about it and can actually make leyden jars.

one wire goes on the inside of the jar and one goes on the aluminium foil wraped around the ouside of the jar. just trying to help.
