  • I noticed the Germans pronounce the Word "I" something like Ick in english! But I washed a movie in German and they were from Bavvaria and they pronouce it like "Ish"! This is confusing to me! Whats the proper way to say it and in Germany do they say it different depending on where you come from?

  • @chino1922 the correct pronunciation is neither "ck" nor "sh", the "ch" sound doesn't exist in English and is pretty hard to explain. if you watch some of my german videos with german subtitles (eg the german readings) you will notice how it sounds. certain dialects alter the sound as you said. In Berlin they say "ick" in Hesse they say "isch" for example.

  • For some reason I think that the words 'verbrochen' and 'verkrochen' would be a good example of the two different sounds as well as to help people pronounce them a bit better. Just a thought lol I love your videos :)

  • @shannyogirl As this is about the difference between R and CH, I don't really get your example. But thanks for the input anyway ;)

  • @ErklaerMirDieWelt Oh I really just meant that they have both sounds in them haha sorry to confuse you

  • thx for help

  • Ich war in Marburg, aber nicht in Berlin oder Brandenburger Tor. RRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • F**k! I can't do it, My German R sound like French R

    I'm gonna cry xD!!!!

  • move the mic up so you don't get wind noise.

  • That thing in the back of your throat is called the "Uvula."

  • thank you very much, I am much closer to perfecting my german.

    thank you :D

  • oh you are silly. thanks for your help =]

  • Nart ^^ jawoll klingt doch nice xD

  • Nice Denglisch

  • Also, the thing with the water is called: gargling.

  • Thing in the back of your throat = tonsil. =)

Thank you. I get it now. =)

  • @thebluestofpeas :) no, what I meant was uvula. The tonsils have nothing to do with your pronounciation.

  • lol its all red and iky lol

  • wow i had such trouble with the R before this vid! Danke!

  • am i supposed to feel funny when trying to pronounce the German "r"?is it going to become a habit?and is it true that any German native speaker that hears a foreigner try to speak with the correct "r" is rather bothered by the attempt?I'm asking because i'll be visiting Germany soon and i want to be able to speak good German and not make a fool of myself.I love this language and i really want to learn it the best i can!thanks for the videos, you're brill!

  • It was very helpful, but I still can't seem to do it! I feel like I'm chocking myself when I do it! Er, well, attempt to.

  • When I do the R. I have the ch down, but not the R.

  • This may sound weird and it has nothing to do with the video, but I really like your haircut. Too bad my face wouldn't work with that hair. =/

  • Oh God. Too wordy. Make it short please!!!! Takes 4 minutes of my life away.

Just show me how to do R, and CH please!!!!

  • Für manche von uns ist es klar.

  • Hahaha sehr schön :)!

  • Thank you very much for this video. I'm still trying to get the "r" sound right but I think i'm getting closer.=)

  • Yes it makes sense, perfect sense, I always knew the difference. I guess some people dont.
