@TheRuthlessRapper I'm not saying that the point made is not true, but to compare Ron Simmons' win in a less-than mediocre company to President Obama's election--or ANY other truly relevant African American "first"--is, like I said, ridiculous.
Furthermore, one has to take demographics into account when being involved in a business like professional Wrestling. A lot less African Americans watch wrestling, so there is less likely to be a African American Champion... CONT.
@TheRuthlessRapper ...Whereas there have been 4 Hispanic World champions because there are way more Hispanic viewers in the demographics (Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio Jr., Batista, and Alberto Del Rio--that I know of). However, when the Rock was champion (7 times it was about his ability to draw crowds and produce revenue, his wrestling skills and looks, and his phenomenal mic. skills. Today you have people like R-Truth who would be a joke as heavyweight champion.... CONT.
@TheRuthlessRapper ...compared to The Rock, Tony Atlas (never champion, but could have been), Ahmed Johnson (IC Champ), or others. Even more, it is more important that someone be likable and relatable to all people and not just to one particular race just to draw them to the program, when once they lose the belt the viewers stop watching.
@borjon23 That wasn't the point I was making. I meant that comparing wrestling to the political stage is ridiculous. President Obama's "halfness" is irrelevant--he's an African American regardless of being "half" or not; that's just the way it is. My point was that it is harder to cater to our group in an entertainment division like wrestling, therefore less champions. Plus, when creating a champion of our race he needs to be universally relatable--someone like THe Rock, Shelton Benjamin...ETC.
@LKSPR13 Is Barrack Obama from Africa? no he is not and therefor he is not an african american. He was born in Hawaii to a black father and white mother. He is an American, nothing else. Learn your shit before spout off about things you're cleary uneducated about. The only thing African about Barrack Obama is his father. Moreover, Others who have no lineage from Africa would be called black Americans. By The Only thing about him that's African..." you mean what? Not a spear holding fool
@LKSPR13 Exactly genius, if he was a true African American he wouldn't be able to be presisdent.I'm sorry but just because some where way down the line you have African in you're lineage, doesn't make you African. You were born in America, then you're an American. If you were born in Africa, moved to the states, earned citizenship, then you're an African American. @Kravis63 I know right??? lol that's a priceless story and that's part of the reason I get pissed off to no end when I hear people calling Bill Watts a racist he was such a NON racist it's not even funny
Watching that Ron Simmons victory reminded of what I used to love about Pro Wrestling, the big fight feel is completely gone. Nothing matters in sports entertainment it's built for kids who don't know any different or better. The only way I can see that an adult would be in a sports entertainment crowd would be if they were taking there kids cuz the candy store crap of today is unwatchable.
@7Boogiewoogie no, you have just become an old fart and forgot how to see the world through the eyes of a child. That is why you used to love it so much, you were a child yourself.
@yardape99 You do know that one of the Gangsta's in SMW was D-Lo, right? The thing is that D-Lo was the only member of that group who could actually work.
No Bad News Brown, damn it's sad cuz he was a great athlete. @crowRKO1990 It was actually Ole Anderson who sent Heat out in the chains i think. Well i've heard Ric Flair and Michael Hayes mention it as being Ole's idea. Whoever;s idea it was it was fucking terrible
@kansaimagic the snake was a metaphor u have to read between the lines when u read the bible like when they said eve took a bite out of the apple but in the scroll translation it said malice in latin malice can mean apple or evil it has two different meanings
@kansaimagic thats a sterotype i believe in christ and will someone tell me where it says in the bible that the earth is only 6000 years old because i thought that what many baptist believed not catholics im talkin original bible to not the king james version. i have read many types of bibles and they lead me to think that earth was billions of years old and said nothing about it only being 6000 years old
You have read science books and have seen proof that the world isn't 6000 yers old. Why do you have a problem with th Catholics when you Baptists are on the same page of delusions? All people that have Jesus as an imaginary friend have been brainwashed. Every generation of Jesus believers thought he would be coming back in their lifetime and of course they were wrong. 99.9% of the species that ever existed on this planet are now instinct. Your God like the others must be inept.
@kansaimagic are u fuckin retarded i never said i was baptist i said baptist are the ones that think the earth is 6000 years old and that the original bible says nothing about how old the earth is and my family is catholic and i see or hear no delusion but i can tell u do just by the way u cant even understand what u read. Really what in my last comment lead u to believe i was baptist i just believe in christ and god i am no religion but my own i have never been baptised
No need to get your panties in a bunch. You just have an imaginary friend called Jesus and you say that you are no religion and some middle aged virgin didn't baptise you. Not that we have that cleared up please tell me why you choose to cherry pick the good parts of the bible and block out the evil things that Yahweh has done.
@masterbenis why don't you two morons give it a rest? why are talking about religious horseshit in a wrestling video? the only thing more annoying than religious types are athiest types.
@Ratmann3684 I pressed pause because I thought I had something else going in the background, its def not just you brother, I think Kane is walking through hell fire and brimstone in the back or something
This roundtable could have been better, Tony Atlas is an uncle tom through & through no question, he reminds me of a house hand negro, the only people who made good points was Jim Ross & Teddy Long, Bill Watts did ok but Dusty Rhodes did alot of "code talk" if u ask me. WWE hasnt pushed a black wrestling since The Rock & they played more on his samoan heritage then his black. Ok Shelton Benjamin but Randy Ortan is garbage on the mic its like watching paint dry but he is pushed way over?
You know who really still gets screwed? Midget wrestlers. Not only do they rarely get booked at all, but when they do, it is ALWAYS just for shits and giggles. Sure, it's kinda funny to see a dwarf spin another on his head or get chased by a hapless ref, but they have potential for a lot more. They deserve their own serious (no Super Porky) division in WWE.
Great series!!! Just wish they had more of the series...could've done part 2. Maybe have in the group Mark Henry, The Rock, Rocky Johnson, although Atlas had that problem, maybe resolved by this time. So wonderful to see buys talk old school wrestling & to watch their camaraderie. Thanks for loading...especially since I don't have the wrestling channel.....
@mrdudeious ...well, you're "moaning and complaining" about Black people "moaning and complaining", so why dont you shut the fuck up unless you have something meaningful to add. Okay? Thanks.
My favorite black wrestler coming up as a kid was Bobo Brazil. He was huge and could really sell a match. His fued with The Original Sheik was phenomonal.
@freewilliam93 Why wouldn't you have the promoter who far and away pushed and hired more black wrestlers than any other? He's also the only one to hire a black booker. No promoter used black talent nor catered to black fans like Watts did.
@freewilliam93 I've never agreed with the idea that it's racist to support the rights of business owners to conduct business how they see fit. Just don't patronize the business if you don't like their policies.
Even so, the fact that Watts was skewered for expressing an opinion that a business owner should be able to run a business how they fit, even when he's done more to promote blacks in wrestling than anyone else in history, makes him MORE qualified than most to speak on this topic, IMO.
@mamacornettesmoney ....so let me get this straight: business owners should have the "right" to deny the rights of other Americans based on race, creed, sexual orientation, gender, etc in open business or patronage transactions? Explain to me how that makes sense in a free society. In a free and healthy society you have to balance the interests of the few, with the needs of the many in order to promote a healthy society. How does society benefit by having open discrimination policies?
Vince McMahon was a little hard on Dusty when he first came to the WWF. During a Wrestling Challenge taping to show Dusty who was boss, they made Dusty job to the Million Dollar Ted Dibiase in a dark match by grabbing the tights. They did that to prove a point. Dusty had to come the WWF from the NWA, and McMahon wasn't going to tolerate Rhodes playing any politics or any games, so they layed the law down on him. One of the few times they've done that with a new star coming to the WWE.
Butch Reed was such an underrated wrestler. The only thing that really held him back was his laziness, but when he first came to the WWF in 1986 he was tearing the house down every night with Tito Santana in the upper midcard matches during the house shows. He got lazy though during 1988 after Wrestlemania IV and the WWF didn't really have any plans with him, but when Butch Reed was motivated he could go and was arguably one of the best wrestlers in the company.
@Discoslaughterhouse That wheezing is Bill Watts. I agree, they could have turned his mic down, but you never knew when they were going to say anything, so it would have been hard.
They didn't make MVP champion because the company felt a man who used to be in jail couldn't be the face of the company, but they also thought that he would've been great story if he was champion. It was a tough situation, but they always felt MVP was talented enough to be champion.Shelton on the other hand was a great in ring performer, arguably the best in ring wrestler during his prime but he didn't have the mic skills.I still think he would've been champ since Del Rio is also awful on the mic
@mohammad5 Totally agree that shelton could have carried a belt. I think MVP could have carried a belt too. He was a great talker and a decent worker. I cut Del Rio some slack cause English is his second language and pretty recently learned so we're lucky he can say anything at all lol But MVP could have been a great face or heel champ. he could play it either way.
Fellas, if you want to see Shelton Benjamin or Jay Lethal, just simply turn on some Ring of Honor and you'll see him still showing off that he is pound for pound one of the best athletes in pro wrestling still and working with guys that move on a level close enough to him.

@kansaimagic thats a sterotype i believe in christ and will someone tell me where it says in the bible that the earth is only 6000 years old because i thought that what many baptist believed not catholics im talkin original bible to not the king james version. i have read many types of bibles and they lead me to think that earth was billions of years old and said nothing about it only being 6000 years old
masterbenis 1 month ago
@masterbenis
Your God like the others must be inept.
kansaimagic 1 month ago
@kansaimagic are u fuckin retarded i never said i was baptist i said baptist are the ones that think the earth is 6000 years old and that the original bible says nothing about how old the earth is and my family is catholic and i see or hear no delusion but i can tell u do just by the way u cant even understand what u read. Really what in my last comment lead u to believe i was baptist i just believe in christ and god i am no religion but my own i have never been baptised
masterbenis 1 month ago
@masterbenis
No need to get your panties in a bunch. You just have an imaginary friend called Jesus and you say that you are no religion and some middle aged virgin didn't baptise you. Not that we have that cleared up please tell me why you choose to cherry pick the good parts of the bible and block out the evil things that Yahweh has done.
kansaimagic 1 month ago
@kansaimagic i no nothing of cherry pickin but i know some things about cherry poppin

The first black wrestler that really caught my attention was Ron Simmons. I was overjoyed when he finally won the World Title

Did I miss it, or did they talk about Booker T at all? Because, in my opinion, the five-time WCW champion is greatest black wrestler ever, sucka.

@freewilliam93 Why wouldn't you have the promoter who far and away pushed and hired more black wrestlers than any other? He's also the only one to hire a black booker. No promoter used black talent nor catered to black fans like Watts did.
mamacornettesmoney 1 month ago
@mamacornettesmoney Im just saying its funny because of an interview he did in the ealry 90s with Wade Keller. Oh well.
freewilliam93 1 month ago

It was a tough situation, but they always felt MVP was talented enough to be champion.Shelton on the other hand was a great in ring performer, arguably the best in ring wrestler during his prime but he didn't have the mic skills.I still think he would've been champ since Del Rio is also awful on the mic
mohammad5 2 months ago
@mohammad5 You got it!
lildwayne21 2 months ago
@mohammad5 Totally agree that shelton could have carried a belt. I think MVP could have carried a belt too. He was a great talker and a decent worker. I cut Del Rio some slack cause English is his second language and pretty recently learned so we're lucky he can say anything at all lol But MVP could have been a great face or heel champ. he could play it either way.
