ok u say a mac book pro is good to use for video sl ok i just came from the mac store it cost 1,799 for a 15" 2.2 GHZ now would i be able to get a mac book air n it would work the same...????
I have never used a Macbook Air so I couldn't tell you definitely. You may wanna check out the minimum specs listed on Serato's website. I've always used a Macbook Pro. I've tried numerous PC's with decent video cards, and they all seemed to pale in comparison. If the specs of the card aren't up to snuff, Serato Video-SL will flat out refuse to "see" the effects.
@djphunknasty ok cool i found a macbook pro for not that much thanks for the info cause my video wasnt working with my pc n i didnt know why thank dj phunknasty..
I have never used one without an external power supply. I would highly recommend against doing so, as this drains power from the usb bus to power the drive. Without external power, you definitely run a higher risk of failures such as usb dropouts
I need your help I have a macbook pro and serato itch. Serato Itch kicks me out of the program every ten min. my laptop has 4gb of memory and not running no other programs while using Serato Itch.
fucking macbook waves stutters like a motherfucker and frezzes it sucks only used it once glad had my pc as backup serious im going to put a video and put apple fans on there place macbook sucks just a much a pc
First you say you only use macbooks for live performances, then you say Windows laptops arent as stable, then oyu go onto saying, you have nothing against windows, that they work even faster than a mbp....are you high?
macs are just made for artists. guys just accept it. the OS comes with music production, website design and publishing, photo editing, video editing… all native. windows has to write their OS for computers that range in cost and components from 200-4000$ computers. Mac make the computers and the OS. it’s not a fair race so don’t feel bad.theres internal midi routing you can’t do on an OS level with windows that you can do on a mac. I own both and it’s just built into the OS.
:: Thanks so much djphunknasty. This video really helped me to decide what laptop to get for VDJing. I'm so into it right now but sad I can't use my skills that much coz I'm running on PC. Sucks balls! Thanks again! Will get a macbook pro like yours SOON! =D
what about the new 2011 macbook air with the sandybridge icore5 using Intel HD3000 video card? The Macbook air runs faster than the pro o test because of the SSD harddrive.
mac pro itsnt the best. Some Gaming laptops blow mac pro out of the water in graphic cards and speed (like alienware). it all depends what you do. me and my friends are gamers, use programs, video editing, djing ect... so we all have different laptops. Like programming, gaming (some), and hacks, u wouldnt buy a mac pro lol. But mac pro is good for video sl but not best. I might buy one in the future tho bcuz i see what you mean
What is the best Video card for serato Video SL. my video are H.264 720p and 1080p Mp4. Not upconverted. all the new released songs, the videos are Hd quality. I have a macbook pro with 2.66 ghz, Snow Leopard OSX, 4 gigs of ram, 256 Gig Solid state HD & The Nvidia 9600m Gt Video card with 512 mb ram. I get lag playing high quality videos set up in best quality output. I tried the 330 M gt video card with 512 mb of ram and its the same. I installed Perian Swiss army knife for morte codec support
hi there Mr phunknasty can you pls make a vid on your work. showing the video and your decks so that we can see how you work it. sorry for demanding such a vid. its just not a lot of tutorials in youtube who works with VSL. Ive been Djing for 5 years now. and just decided on mixing video so Im kinda new to this. I've already bought SL3 and the VSL plugin. I've already tried mixing vids but i thing i still have a lot to learn specially working with serato. i hope you'll consider my request thanks
well, hate to break to to ya.... but my alienware M15x shits on any mac ! why you ask ? first of all we are talking video only here since that all i spin. try using the effect and trans. on a mac at multp. times...they drag, chop, and simply do run well..... i run text, and a video color trans, all while mixing other on top flawlessly...pay 2200 for the pc which is under the cost of the new mac's. i ask you to stop up and check it out one night...
Also, the one that I have, has the exact same video card that is recommended on Serato's website... Ok here it is, its MacBook Pro 3,1. It's a 15"incher
See below in response to MadCowboy's post... I don't know the exact model # (Macbooks use weird ways to describe them, like "Late 2009", etc) but mine is the last model right before the unibodies came out. You should be completely safe with any of the "black keyboard" Unibody Macbook Pro models, or the one that I have also.
lol thats what happen to me i just bought the ns7 i can't play any music on Serato .

Hmmm, mine is the last model prior to Unibody (whichever one that is) i'd imagine any of the unibody models (black keyboards) would work even better!
