  • god damn they got old

  • @whilwheaton colm looks the same , but lembit opik has donned a wig and replaced kev shields

  • Once in a generation band!

  • I guess Tool are also fans of MBV. No band sings another band as their support act unless they've had a listen to their music and they actually like the music they're playing. Otherwise they'd be no point. So I guess Tool, unlike their dumb-ass fans, does like the music that MBV plays.

  • how did MBV play at a tool show? thats a wierd combo to play at one show, i love both bands, but still doesnt match

  • Everytime they talk about a new album, they just look at each other as if there is an inside joke along the lines of, "yeah right that is never happening", lol. Sometimes I wonder what is better, quantity or quality, Loveless has me leaning towards the latter.

  • Where is the new album?? They reformed and lifted my hopes, i really hope for the best and more touring!!

  • I'd like to know why mbv would even share a stage with a crap band like tool? wtf?

  • yeah, i was at that show in nj where mbv opened for tool, and those people were straight up rude, no facts need to be checked there, unless you want to check the mud that was caked on you at that shithole of a venue, if you were even there

  • Love this. It's not about the interviewer (such as Charlie Rose who can ruin it). Uncombed hair, unrehearsed, insecure, real life.

  • what a bunch of total stars - noce to see they havent dissapeared up their own as es and are still down to earth and insecure. Cant wait to hear their new stuff. Getting flipped off by the fans of a band "tool" has got to be a compliment.

  • that was boring

  • Colm is the coolest guy

  • life changing band.

  • certainly totally different caliber of band and music....why do you think there called tool anyway

  • "we could put out the stuff from the 90's"

    (rolls eyes)"Yeah, we could."

  • oh god..what a pointless interview..giving away zero as usual..no new music,no remastered albums,zilch...

  • fuckin cheer up,,,, its ok,,,

  • Colm Sounds Like He Has A Sort A American Acsent

  • As long as Kev releases those remastered albums on time (August 23rd is the latest date), once he releases those, then I'll be a lot more optimistic regarding a third album. Haven't heard a bleep since they finished their tour regarding that third album..

  • ooooooooooooo i hope its sooon i really wanna see there new album

  • Yea I was there @ APW. It was great cuz MBV didn't stop the "lift-off" noise-rock part of there ending til all the Tool fans put down there fingers haha! it was brillant!

  • MBV are amzing.....influential beyond their own recogniton.....they created something special....beyond their control...

  • I would be very happy if they released another record. If they don't I won't have any hate for them.

  • oh Kevin, bless him <3

    "we didn't do enough".

    damn straight.

  • I hope they do come back some day with at least one more album. Though unlike others, I'm not in any rush. They're obviously just taking their time.

If they did come back, I can imagine just how huge it'll be. It'd remind everyone just how stunning their music is.

  • "That'll happen..........some day". Wonder if it'll be in the next 20 years? :)It fuckin better be!

  • estan tios los de my bloody el genio kevin shields y su compañero de viajes colm

  • Huh?

  • so who is it then? the Reverend Ian Paisley? Father Dougal? Oscar Wilde?

    pray, elighten us.

  • @accidentsinspace Well, I regret to inform you... the aging process and a change in hairstyle can alter one's appearance.

But on a more serious note, Colm does seem more animated than his photos from the 90s would suggest.

  • aged alot just for 20 years ago

  • mad as hatters them two... :)

  • BEST fuckin' band in the world... along with Cocteau Twins too, of course! ;)

  • Waiting for a new My Bloody Valentine album is like waiting for Shenmue 3.

  • @dogeymon83 - it'll still come out before Detox

  • @KMFCM I bet

  • lmfao how the hell u connect those two!? thats funny tho

  • @dogeymon83 absolutely.....can't agree more.

  • With different hairstyles, they could almost be Siskel & Ebert.

  • i'm thinkin' McCartney and Lennon

    after a ruff life!

  • Kevin looks the same, Colm looks very different :) but what the hell are they talking about........

  • Kevin looks so different..

  • hey everyone i have all the mbv music vids check em out

  • If only the promise at the end (two new albums) was true. But judging from the look on Colm's face, he's thinking "I'll believe that when it's on iTunes..."

  • I heard a lot of people at the shows for Tool were flipping them off. But what do expect? They listen to Tool.

  • Yes, but all those nasty angst-y middle fingers were no match for 130+db coming from soft spoken middle-agers.

The big Tool vs MBV debate. It's as relevant as the evolution vs creation argument.

  • @heyheymel no, you're a musical retard if you even compare tool to mbv

tool is buttrock (american for shitty post-grunge music)

mbv has the number one album of all time

    get elitist brah

  • @JoddTamison Yeah you're preaching to the grand choir... brah.

  • @cardigansarecool Yea, a band that describe their fan base perfectly.

  • @cardigansarecool wtf TOOL and MBV are two of my favorite bands. Check your info bro...

  • @cardigansarecool i would literally lose my shit if i saw someone flipping them off.

  • @cardigansarecool lol, tool blows, dubstep is better

  • @YellowNBoy

    >implying dubstep is good

    BWHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAH

  • @SuperTlss Burial is amazing and I would recommend a listen to any MBV fan, if you don't anything about a genre shut the fuck up.

  • @SuperTlss ? you dont like dance music?

or are you just like a british guy who likes acid house?

i always assume everyone i talk to about mbv is from the UK area

  • @cardigansarecool I like both those bands :/

  • @cardigansarecool Tool fans are so notoriously awful that even Tool hates them. Which, incidentally, is the only positive thing about Tool.

  • You gotta smile when Kevin says at 3:47 they'll definitely make another album. Oh, really? I thought that's what he's been working on for the past 18 years! OK, maybe 10 of those 18...

  • Nice to see NME interviewing a real band, instead of one of these shitty new bands who are in the limelight for a week before being forgotten.

Saw them live on the first Manchester date after reformation, and it was just mind blowing. Didn't wear earplugs, and I do have slight ringing. Mind you, standing basically on ear level (and next to) the drummer from Blood Red Shoes and some other loud gigs haven't helped ;)

  • stupid comment

  • Clearly, you understand the ethics of shoegazing.

  • Yeah, tremelo, distortion, feedback.

  • ethics =/= conventions.

  • WTF! They look like the've got out of a x-ray exposition chamber. They stil rock, too.

  • I loved their Loveless Record. The fact that they haven't done anything since just happens! Look at The Cure after Head on the Door. It was a very creative 2 years back then but that doesn't mean it can be repeated. I'd just re-release some of it live, throw in a couple new songs and keep making money touring but hopefully at half volume. I think the decibels are taking years off their looks and brains from their fans.

  • The decibel levels took years off my hearing. I'm still suffering after the gig last summer. Man, I should have used the earplugs.

  • What? you mean to say Disintegration WASN'T the best cure album? C'mon...you can't be serious.

  • Actually Disintergration is a great record. For me it falls right behind Head on the Door. Has something to do with how innovative Head on the Door was for 1985. Disintergration was the last great LP, every LP after had its share of great songs but that became the exception.

  • kevin is not the only perfectionist, Colm is a perfectionist too...he is extremely particular, music is his whole life and only love

  • Nice Vids!

  • those guys seem so laid back and cool

  • what? this is a fashion show? Damn...I thought it was about the music

  • i really like MBV, but these guys are boring to listen to. Not their forte, not what they're about, but not a good video.

  • What more can they say? that theyre going to adopt a kid from zimbabwe?

  • when? man i have been waiting since i was a wee lad

  • Kevin has this weird accent that sounds slightly more Irish than anything else, so does Colm, but he speaks in little bursts... it's weird hearing him speak for the first time

  • You could say that Kevin has this Americanized, Pan-United Kingdom accent. He was born and raised in New York until 10. Lived in Ireland until 20, and lived in London for most of his adult life.

Colm had quite the Irish brogue, but it had softened dramatically after living in the US for several years.

  • Don't wait for these guys to make and album, it will simply take FOREVER....it is just how they are...get on with making your own music, do it for your soul...

  • with all respect to my bloody valentine, it was mostly financial issues that tied their hands after loveless was released. other than their two bigger releases (loveless/isn't anything) they've released a slew of EP's (strawberry wine, glider, ecstasy, etc.) throughout their duration as an active musical outfit.

and don't you find it mildly exciting that they're such perfectionists? or, maybe just kevin shields is the perfectionist. it keeps me on my toes for what their NEW ('09) sound is like.

  • The thing about looking odler than age...actually in real life they look alright, but yeah, warning! Stay away from the drink and drugs if you wanna stay looking young and unlike these guys, go to the gym...exercise etc...

  • Colm and Kevin, a simple case of Tweedle dee and Tweedle...but still...the universe put them here to do a certain job...

  • Christ!!!

He looks like he's about 60.

  • I dunno - they both look pretty good for, what, their mid-40s? Also, a bit sheepish about how long it takes them to do anything, and a nice look Colm shoots Kevin about how "underplayed" their songs are.

  • He looks quite well for a 45 year old guy that has smoked and got stoned/drunk as much as he has...

  • please get a new album out!!! we need you!!

    i need you!!1

seriously though, just get a new fuckin' album out already

if you like mbv, check out "all natural lemon and lime flavors"

  • Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Might have to dig some out.

  • search: lemonlimestiv

to see flavors both old and sort of new!

  • I know they talk about putting out another album with smiles on their faces...but c'mon guys! Get to it! We miss your music already! Fuck today's music, gimme some MBV!

  • god damnit im sick of waiting AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • omg omg omg omg omg !!!!

  • does kevin seem out of it? lol.

  • can't wait to hear what the new album sounds like

  • sweet jesus 20 years makes you look older

  • oh really?

  • OMG I love them!

  • uh nah nme, vice already got shields in an interview.

  • I love them! finally I saw an interview with Colm talking in it =)

  • FUCK YOU NME GET OFF MBV

  • It sounds like Colm's accent has been Americanized from years of living in California.

  • I noticed that too really. Compare it to the other interview from back in 88. Just search it and you'll see

  • Saw them twice on their current tour, including Benicassim. They have been totally magic both times..

  • glad to see kevin isn't looking so plump anymore

  • i hope they somehow captured that "rehearsal" they are talking about...

  • Luv'em.

  • "Middle of the road" ???? I was at the gig and it was MAGICAL !!!!!

  • they seem pretty friendly in this more open and smiley then intereviews of past which is nice!

  • Yeah, Colm is surprisingly expressive.

The dynamics between Kevin and Colm are interesting in this interview. Colm seems like the little brother who can't quite agree with everything Kevin says, but he's diplomatic about it.

  • Whoa, Kevin's aged alot man. Oh well, he's still awesome.

  • I say that Colm has really aged, but that's probably because I haven't seen many images of him since the early 90s.

  • They should have a 2008 photo session. Then we can see the whole band and judge their aging process.

  • Since they recently won a Mojo Award, there are a few photos of the band from the show. You can do a search for My Bloody Valentine and Mojo Awards.

  • Who cares if they've aged? It's the music that matters the most!

  • Of course, but I have a obsession with the aging process of human beings.

  • I know! Kevin fucking rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cheers for this! doumo arigatou!
