homeschooling was created by parents who did not have positive experiences in social settings, and seek to shelter their children from all such experiences except for a select few. because homeschool parents are a self-selective group of people, (ones who did not learn to interact and relate to their peers) they can not take criticism. That is why all of their responses are classic ad hominem fallacies; attacking the person and not the argument. i was homeschooled and will never recover from it.
the school system failed to teach my children anything! the teachers were lazy no joke. everytime my child came home to do his homework he had no idea what to do or what it was about! when i complained to school board, the school ended up withdrawing my children! using the reason we were not in there district. i do not know how was that so. we lived on the next street. i felt like they gave up on my children. so i decided to home school them
I used to be homeschooled from k4 to 5th grade. I didn't really like it much. i mean being stuck in your house all day with the same people... it wasn't my thing. i started public school in 6th grade and i loved it, and i still do! I dont know why parents make school sound so bad, its alot of fun. plus you can get scholarships, and friends!
@Ichigoofficial1 That is very true, the first thing I saw when I walked into a public school was hear moaning and I smelt smoke, possibly marijuana. it is a horrible place where heathens send their kids
Even though I am not big on homeschooling, my brother was homeschooled and went to college at 16 and is now 20 and in a veternarian school. And his homeschooled friends are very smart and all of them go to college or have been to college and get great jobs. Although they can be nerdy...but, public school kids ARE WEIRD in their own way.
i am home schooled but i have been in puplic shool for two years 3-4 grades. i did feel a little nerves on my first day of school but i did make friends with most off the class. i have been homshooled for most off my life .true somtime i wont leave the house fore a day but i got lotes off friends in town to . if you like machimina take a look at some of my favorites .
I did this for a little while after middle school. I agree that those homeschoolers that have done it all their lives tend to be a little socially awkward (not all, though). However, once a child has experienced being in a regular school, I think they learn a lot of basic social skills. I do believe in homeschooling, especially since it allows kids to move at their own pace. Also, homeschoolers are not socially deprived. They still have friends and get out of the house. Hope this helps!
Well, it really depends on the parents. Homeschool is a big decision, and they need lots of time and energy to homeschool you. Think of several good reasons, and sit down and talk to your parents about it one day when they're not too busy.
@adriettasee Thanks! Someone who actually knows what they're talking about when typing about homeschool. Now for my two cents, I have to say that sometimes the reason we seem awkward is because we pay attention to things that are important, rather than what the next big song will be or "who's dating who". Thats my experience at least, maybe it's different in other places. Don't take me wrong, I hang out with public-schoolers all the time and have nothing against them, just the system.
If the child will get confused at school, how will the child do in a man eat man world after they get their GED? The world is a tough place, very tough. Public school teaches more than just academics, it teaches survival. It is much easier to take the abuse at a young age than adapt as an adult. I went to private school for elementary, then public school throughout my Masters and now for my Doctorate. I don't have a single bad thing to say about the public school system in the midwest.
Out of curiosity, when applying to college, how is class rank calculated? Colleges look at the combination of class rank and ACT/SAT score for admission.
I'm not against homeschooling in certain situations. However, there is a crowd that misuses it to infuse religion into science and other academic subjects. I'm not opposed to teaching religion as religion. But, as a society it is dangerous to masquerade religion as other subjects. Certainly this does not apply to all homeschoolers.
Not every College looks at Rank but to get into Junior College (which then you can transfer out of) do not require class rank.I do know where you are headed with the religion topic though, as I am finding a lot of Religion based "groups" and "curriculum" out there. It is a problem because even though I am fairly religious, as a culture a lot of youth tend to shy away from Religion later in life and I don't want that for my child but I also want to teach home school as an education.
Really? Where is the case study of at least ten or more home school students that have been followed and evaluated? Not to argue but when claiming something to be a "fact" then please show proof so people can evaluate and see for themselves
It is very hard to call anything a fact, especially in social science. Whenever I heard somebody use that word for something other than an observed data point, I immediately question it. In science, we have theories. Scholars put forth models and theories that other scholars expand upon or disprove. It is a stretch to call a theory fact. We usually speak in terms of probability.
It seems like the primary reason people in the US opt to home school children is not so they get a higher quality of education than what a public school can provide, but because they want to prevent their children from learning about concepts like evolution, multiculturalism, etc.
Add in the factor that most parents that home school their kids did not receive a secondary education in education themselves, and I think it's fair to say that "home-schooled" is a good euphamism for "uneducated."
Here's a tip. When you are making a comment to refute my claim that home schooling deprives children of a good education, make sure you use grammar that is better than what Captain Caveman might use.
It appears that the infusion of religion into subjects other than religion in a homeschooling environment can be disastrous. Religion is certainly not the only reason for homeschooling. On the other hand, for kids who are extremely gifted in inadequate, usually small or poor, school districts, home schooling might be an answer for them to thrive. Also, for children with disabilities, homeschooling may allow more focus on problem areas. I question why an average student would be do it.
I agree. I think public or private school is much better because it is the real world. Some homeschoolers are well...weird (but I'm not saying all!). Socialization is important. And so is good grades. At a regular HS you get to see cute boys, have fun (I'm not saying everyday is great though, but that's life), you get to do a sport and just be a normal kid. Homeschooling may work for some but in my opinion going to school is better. :)
Did you home school as well so that you could form an opinion? No disrespect, but the "I'm not saying everyday is great" and the "you get to see cute boys" comments of yours; are prime examples of the distractions that 'school' has. One goes to school to learn not to have "not so great days" and "see cute boys".
We pulled our 8 year-old out of public school. That was the best decision we ever made. He's doing so much better. His self esteem is up. He's has stronger, closer friendships. It's not for everyone, but it's been a blessing for us.
how can i get started with home schooling i no longer want my child to be apart of public school, she is 8 years old, please let me no were and how can i get started, thank you
Parents: please consider this decision carefully. I was homeschooled k-12 by smart, loving parents and it was the worst thing they ever did to me. It will screw you over for life. you might think it is a success because your kids get good grades or seem smart. In the long run they are much worse off. Let me know if you have any questions.
Well you could ellaborate a little bit. You painted a broad picture but failed to give any reasoning. How were you raised by smart loving parents yet the worst thing they EVER did to you was homeschool you? How are you screwed over for life? How is getting good grades and seeming smart going to make you much worse off? I really am just curious.
see my reply to the other person below. hopefully that answers some of ur questions. and getting good grades is not a bad thing if you want to be a scientist who sits in a lab all day and has no interaction with other people, but if you want to be able to relate to other people then you need social interaction from a young age...and im not talking about homeschool event where the a bunch of awkward kids discuss molecular biology and quantum mechanics. homeschooling is just a flawed system.
Hi, Why it is a bad Idea to home school? Why it was the worst thing they ever did to you? What should they have done differently in order to successfully homeschool you? Thank you for answering these questions if you can. I am considering homeschooling my son and it would be useful to us to know. Thanks
hey. its really hard to express in words what exactly homeschooling does to you. homeschool parents always claim that their kids are getting adequate "socialization", and growing up, i always believed i did, but now i realize that no amount of "co-op classes" can make up to the every day interaction with other kids. as a result of this, i feel separated from the rest of my generation. i lack the intangible communication skills that are developed thru healthy social interaction.
Thank you so much for answering my questions! You say a key word, healthy interaction, but what kind of healthy interaction you get when you have other classmates bulling you and calling you names, or being shot or raped.Children spent 7 hours in school. For what...I got 4.0 GPA and English is my second language! I got all A's in English, College level, an some American students didn't pass the class!! I do not think that American Schools are educating children with education in mind! My opinion
We decided to homeschool our 1st child when he was 3 years old. By the time he turned 4, he tested at a 2nd grade level for reading and a year ahead on math.
There is nothing to lose by homeschooling at a young age since they wouldn't be in school anyway.

Home schooling is not right for the fact of most home schooling parents are religious nut jobs who also shelter their pale children from the world

Hi good afternoon-home schooled students have transcripts not a GED. Home school is "Real school" and therefore they graduate.
