Darkly dramatic and a seamless transition from rage to heartbreaking! The stunning

accomplishment in this performance for me is the fact that Herlea sings with an

exquisite legato throughout...he doesn't bark or hoot or break the melodic line

to express Rigoletto's devastation at finding Gilda missing or as he begs the

courtiers to help him find her! A tour de force of the art of the baritone...Bravo

I agree, Herlea is in the finest traditions of great baritones. I certainly place him with Bastianini and Gobbi. I actually prefer his Rigoletto interpretation over theirs.

Absolute amazing.. pitty it is not a video but a sound track only. Coming from the Netherlands . We had a baritone named JAN DERKSEN , I saw him perform thisrole some 20 times including singing bend forwards with a huge humpback.. Jan performed this part many times even at The Scala Milan !

This is an ultimate interpretation of Rigoletto. Baritones like Warren, Mac Neill and even Bastianini could not reach such easy to master their TONE, phrasing and emotional charge to the one of Nicolea Herlea posted here. Who knows opera for real will agree. I was fortunate that I had the chance to see him many times live in Bucharest and was astonished every time of his artistry as well as of his incredible voice. Thank you for posting, as well to all that posted anything with Maestro Herlea!

One can surely say that this singer, Herlea, does justice to this aria.

What an exceptional timber, such a sober and at the same time dramatic interpretation !

Almost impossible to ask for more; frankly, hard to listen to another interpretation after this one (at least not immediately afterwards).

I discovered this singer accidentally by buying cheap recordings of Pagliacci and Forza out of curiosity for my collection.

Imagine my surprise when I heard Forza with Herlea, Slatinaru and Spiess! Had never heard these people before...

Well, I heard them now, alright!

I cannot think of a more technical group of people with gorgeous and immense vocal potential. I wonder why they never got in the international recording studios.

I actually can imagine the answer to that, but I still wonder.
