Not many people could deal with what his wife put him through, and the fact that he kept going for as long as he did showed his strength.

I had a wreck on my Suzuki V-Strom and broke my right leg and ankle .I broke the tibula which is the bone below the knee.The rescue personnel cut my boot off on the roadway.I felt a lot of pressure and my right foot was at an 90 angle to my heel.I am still on a walker and cannot put weight on my right leg yet.The accident happened in November of 2011.I wish you the best wishes to heal and be safe.
Unlucky chap. That sort of front wheel deflection can happen with any bike, even with Enduro tyres. Don't be too hard on the GS (or put off doing it again): I routinely ride mine on worse stuff than that on road tyres and it copes fine. Get well soon! :)

@mikesidecar Could well have had something to do with them ripping all the muscle and tendons in my leg as they pulled the boot off. Or perhaps the bone pinching tissue as it separates, or possibly a combination of these things. Things like this usually have a tenancy to make one scream in displeasure. *shrug* It was easier once they gave me morphine and cut the boot free.
@merali92 sven is right no you wouldn't i came off my cbr600 a while back and broke my left leg, when i tried to get up the pain makes you feel sick to the stomach, the last thing i thought about was my bike
I know your pain, probably more. Wrecked my motorcycle a couple of months ago, slipped in a turn, went in a ditch. Snapped my femur in half and displaced it. Now i'm being held together by a foot long titanium rod and 4 screws! hope for a speedy recovery.

Rule number one when you ride off road, NEVER ride through a body of water larger than your vehicle if you can't see the bottom. Get off and walk it first, or ride around it. I have ridden many larger motorcycles, raced motocross as a youngster, taken many offroad trips on my 1150gs and I have been lucky. Speeding on a slick road only brings pain.

Get well soon, i know how you feel right now. Last January a car crashed into my side, was pretty banged up, bike looked horrible. Best thing to do is, when you fell off the horse, climb back on the horse.

I have ridden over 5 years and over 30,000 miles on my DL650. Dropped her twice, and my friends DL1000 once. Luckly I faired better then you did. I havent done a LOT of off-roading so im no expert, but I think you really needed to keep your arms rigid. On the road you keep them lax since you dont need to worrie about your front going out like that. On slick surfaces, you need to make 100% sure your front tire points the direction your going, or that happens. Sorry about your fall.

@simon44 boots no, spiral fracture. Allegedly decent knee braces would probably have helped. But something has got to give, so it would have then been the femur.

I wish all paramedics etc. would explain that gas and air (ie nitrous oxide + oxygen) has a cumulative effect and you need to keep breathing that stuff as much as possible, even when the pain starts to go.
@AshhBoyy Adrenaline is an incredible thing, also proper motorcycle boots do a tremendous job of holding everything together if you break something!
When I had my first crash I pretty much shattered my left wrist yet as soon as I crashed I stood up, picked the bike up and parked it up off the road before I realised I had injured myself. At that point the pain of it promptly caused me to go into shock and the next thing I remember was about an hour after that!

. . . sorry man , that's F'n horrible . I personally know that breaking a leg or foot bone , is not only excruciatingly painful , but then you are no longer mobile , and for weeks just rolling over bed F'n hurts . hope you can afford the down time $ $ $ and your chick is understanding and not bitching at you on a daily basis (like mine did), bad timing around the Holidays to , you'll be packing on some weight now bro ha ha

I have ridden over 5 years and over 30,000 miles on my DL650. Dropped her twice, and my friends DL1000 once. Luckly I faired better then you did. I havent done a LOT of off-roading so im no expert, but I think you really needed to keep your arms rigid. On the road you keep them lax since you dont need to worrie about your front going out like that. On slick surfaces, you need to make 100% sure your front tire points the direction your going, or that happens. Sorry about your fall.

I wish all paramedics etc. would explain that gas and air (ie nitrous oxide + oxygen) has a cumulative effect and you need to keep breathing that stuff as much as possible, even when the pain starts to go.

3 lessons I'm taking from this:
1. Proceed SLOWLY with much caution into opaque puddles.
2. Pay attention to the task at hand. Can easily dub over the video with your comments.
3. Broken bones are bloody painful from the sound of it.

@AshhBoyy Adrenaline is an incredible thing, also proper motorcycle boots do a tremendous job of holding everything together if you break something!
When I had my first crash I pretty much shattered my left wrist yet as soon as I crashed I stood up, picked the bike up and parked it up off the road before I realised I had injured myself. At that point the pain of it promptly caused me to go into shock and the next thing I remember was about an hour after that!
