Underworld: Awakening - Movie Review by Chris Stuckmann

The first Underworld is probably the best, but was seriously tainted by a sappy love story born of puerile moralizing. (And culminates in a TENDER love scene in the next movie -- WTF?? a lycan hybrid and a vampire should have been going at it like animals!)

A fan would know exactly why the lycans were after the girl, but beyond introducing the hybrid child, Awakening supplies no story with the fight scenes and even kills off all the bad guys. The movie feels like a longer than average trailer.

I liked the first one best. However, I doubt if it will be your cup of blood if you're giving this one a D-. While the series did seem to go down hill, it didn't go down hill that bad.

I really think this is one of those movies you actually have to have seen the movies that had come before. You seem to have no understanding about what the movie style was about. I can see why you don't like it though as if you didn't like this version you're not going to like the other versions that came before. Though having seen all the movies pertaining to this universe it does stay consistent to its theme and action. Its use of CGI has been constant throughout the entire franchise.

Everybody has a different opinion about the movies-some people like 1st,some 2nd,some 3rd,and i like all of them,but that doesn't mean the movies are bad!!!For me, Underworld:Awakening was GREAT, like the other parts. You're talking about flying and jumping and stuff like that...well,man, that's why it's called FANTASY-it's not some kind of a thriller or a realistic,action movie- you can't jump from a building, survive and look real! There was a lot of action and well-made effects! GO WATCH IT!

I really liked the other 3 Underworld movies. If I had to rank them, I'd say ... Rise of the Lycans, Underworld then Underworld Evolution. I haven't seen the recent one, but heard many bad reviews due to the unnecessary plotline.

I'd say watch the other 3 movies when you're in a mood for some fun and nothing genius. It's kinda like the Resident Evil movies. So if you like Resident Evil then give Underworld a try. Besides, I find Underworld movies (1-3) are better than the Resident Evil ones.

The Underworld series= Matrix clothing & action + werewolves & vampires + Kate Beckinsale never having much of a career beyond these movies until she gets too old to do anything else by which time it will be far far too late - philosophy

I scoffed at the trailers when the first one came out. I facepalm every time I learn a new one is being released. I will continue to do so when Beckinsale becomes too old to continue playing an immortal and beyond that when they inevitably reboot the whole mess

This series is a guilty pleasure of mine and I was disappointed with this because they didn't really go into the lore of the universe that has been set up. I do think you should watch the 1st one because you have Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen giving it their all as a vampire and lycan.

I would say you should watch all 3 of the other ones though. I think you'll find the stories much better and there's some decent actors in the other movies.

I watch the Underworld movies because Kate Beckinsale looks HOTTTT in them lol thats all i really care about to enjoy the film.....I would say though if you want to check out a Underworld film watch Rise of the Lycans. It's pretty badass!

@ChrisStuckmann The only film in the series to check out, after you've already seen this movie, is Underworld Evolution, the second one. I liked it better than this one. Awakening was just a big, dumb video game.

The second one at least felt like a modern mythological tale about these two creatures fighting. It at least had a sense of its own mythology incorporated into it.

First two movies are what you're looking for, a decent story, with good acting and some bad ass action/fighting between vampires and werewolves. They are worth checking out.

To me, this movie felt more or so like a tv episode, it started so fast, i'm not even sure when the climax of the film was. Girl rips guys heart out... bam, movies over... Although I do have to say, some of the fighting scenes were pretty cool and the heavy sounds in the movie was awesome. But all in all, don't waist your money on this film, Go see girl with a dragon tattoo!!!!!!

I enjoy the first three Underworlds as guilty pleasures for what they are: cheesy, throw-a-way action movies that you can catch parts of on TBS or TNT. None of them really work as a whole but they do have some cool interesting shots sprinkled in throughout.

Hated Awakening. Completely agree that it was basically a Paul Worthless Shit Anderson movie, but more specifically, it was a Resident Evil movie. Removed all the stuff that made Underworld's brand of fun unique, like the class structure and characterisation of the world, and added an Umbrella corporation. I liked the first three films, because they didn't make any of this shitty sequel's mistakes.

the first was pretty good and i can recommend it, the second was rather meh and tried to recap the sucsess of the first, the third was totally unnessesary because it just told the same thing that was told in a flashback in the second movie and the third was really and had "direct to dvd" quality. so im not going to bother with this one

You should watch the first three. There's a great story in them, all three have great villains, and both the vampires and the lycans feel like characters with a cause.

From what you've told me about Awakening, it's sound like they left out everything but the action.
