Isn't this fitting for we were losers lovers singers and songwriters in a generation labeled X . We were suppose to be nothing but something came out and this is one of many representations of it!!! GREAT PREFORMANCE!!!
Whow... to be honnest, this is the only song of R.E.M. that I don't like... but this unpluggled is amazing, and it made me love this song during 4:56 !!
this freakin song is so erie but great it reminds me of that song from the blue oyster cult it gives me the chill when I listen to this song and reminisce about the past powerful lyrics
The whole Outta Time album is awesome.....but this song is the first to capture the live/die/fuck/cry/kill/born feeling of the Doors.....to me he totally channeled an inner Jim Morrison to do this one
I've heard people say that B4 and I can see where you're going with it, mainly coz of the organ - but to me Stipe's channeling Lou Reed with that whole understated sing-talking thing he does. Anyway, love the song, one of the best off the album :)
id say both. you can tell that he likes this song. On the other side hes got so many "different" voices. Take New Test Leper for example, contra Accelerate.
Spent manys a lonely night listening to this as a teenager......There's definitely a Jim Morrision feel to this....depth.

@Stinkiwinkipoo Don't we all have a burden or two?? Yes, I've got a few.
When I said Powerful, I meant this unplugged version. THIS IS MUSIC!!!
I like the rhythm and the way that it sounds.

This is unbelievable, far more poignant than the album version. Although I think Peter fucked up at 4:35...

His ability to cut through the mix while singing with such a soft voice just kills me.

It reminded me of the spoken part of The End (not the content, just the feel) without the orgasmic Jim Morrison finish of course... lol

Either Michael Stipe is a very good actor, or he's really emotional here.
