Chocolate and beer are both bitter, I would've thought they'd go well together. But then, I like beer and I like straight chocolate. My fav. chocolate is the organic bars with the cacao nibs in there.... mmmmmm.....
I agree with you. As a stout drinker, I do not like the ones with prominent chocolate notes. Sweetness and beer do not go together. Even though this is bitter chocolate, it still reminds me of sweets.
I think young's is pretty great stuff. I remember the first time I didn't get the chocolate so much but try drinking a can of guiness or some other standard stout/porter first then go to young's and the chocolate is so prominent.
Beer is not something you just drink a couple of sips of and think it tastes good, its more of an aquired taste. You sit down with a couple of friends, talk about stupid shit youve done with each other, eat some damn good food, and get hammered all the while.
You mustn't have read the description...I am not the Beer Nut. Norman Miller is the Beer Nut. I hate beer. But in this experiment, he was trying to prove that there's a beer out there for everyone. We never found one for me, though. And the glass is his.
Sorry, I didn't even read your description! Since I know now, MAYBE you'd like to try Lindemans Framboise or Lindemans Peche. They're lambic style beers and MIGHT float your boat (they're more on the sweet/fruity side) I enjoy it as well. Oh, and don't forget that goblet too! =p
I wouldn't recommend a double chocolate stout to a person who's never tried a stout before as it's very rich and can be somewhat overwhelming to the unfamiliar. This beer is for stout drinkers and it is by far my favorite stout.
a beer specialist who has no enjoyment for beer? she also owns a goblet...used for drinking fine beers! haha...nicole...don't waste any more of your money and good beer tasting...especially good stuff like young's. =p
I tried this same stout last year. My former homebrewing buddy recommended it. I liked it, but wouldn't drink gallons. Nicole mentioned how bitter it was. That actually surprises me. The profile of a stout is not bitter, and should never be. A stout may be creamy (nitro), sweet (milk stout), fruity (cherry and such), or chocolatey.
You know, I asked the Beer Nut, Norm, if I should do something like that because I saw a show where they tasted olive oil and sucked in air after. He didn't say to do anything special. Honestly folks, at this point, I think I've disproved his theory...I just don't enjoy beer. :( nicole
Erdinger2003...you need to teach Nicole to open her mouth slightly when evaluating the aroma of a beer. It give additional olfactory airflow and is much more representative of the volitiles given off by the brew.
From the can creamy=flat. No carbonation, just that fake foam on top like from a can of Guinness. I found it boring and would expect the bottle to be better.
thats a really good beer

"I just don't enjoy beer. :( nicole " if you don't like beer, how can you be any type of specialist about it?

[Not that it would have helped much in this case]

True, I should also say something about a little swirl just before smelling as it creates more aroma as the carbonation comes out.

I may have misrepresented myself on the video...I do like dark chocolate now. I do NOT like this burnt-tasting beer, though.
