  • They left orthodox judaism to join a religion that thinks the messiah has already come and died ?!! (I saw those mashiach flags)

  • @marcschein I never saw the film, but I get the impression that they are using these Chabadniks to just show some Orthodox Jews. The Rabbi talking is clearly Lubavitch (about bringing children into the world and leaving them ...etc. )

  • I have never heard someone Jewish say dont eat bacon because it tastes bad. You are not to eat it because it is treif--unclean and forbidden by G-d in the Torah not to eat it. I wish that the makers of this film had gotten somone who could intelligently tell the viewers why they walk away from G-d, His Torah, and his people. You want to live like a Phillistine, like Edom, go ahead, but at least admit that it is for other reasons than you were lied to about the taste of bacon. Oy-Vey!

  • @DanielForkbeard you are damned f**&ing right you aren't going to tell ME or any woman what to do. Who the hell do you think you are? Who left YOU or ANY man in charge? Mascunazis like you are the reason women are starting to hate men, and men are being rejected.

  • @biggahthebettah Uh, I think that you are projecting sweety-- I didnt tell you what to do. Frankly, I could care less if women hate men and turn lesbo. You say "starting" to hate men. I think that your block of angry females has been hating men for a long time. I am sorry if you got abused when you were younger and sorry that your daddy let you down, but dont take it out on me.

  • @DanielForkbeard Im sorry men like you have hated women since time began, although I'm sure your whore of a mother had something to do with your hatred of vagina and your love for hot cock down your throat. If only your whore mother hadn't shoved her nasty pussy in your mouth as a kid and stuck to crack addicts you might not hate females like you do. Go back to sucking on that cock honey. Y ou need the dime.

  • @bobbydimarzio If your intention was to shock me with your pornographic vulgarity you certainly succeeded--wow! I only wish that G-d would provide me with a miracle when someone like you writes and I would look over and there you are typing into a computer next to me. Your face would turn white as you realized the man you are insulting is actually someone you ought to fear and respect as I grabbed your pencil sized neck in my hand and sqeezed. I'm glad yu feel safe behind the walls of anonymity.

  • @DanielForkbeard who the hell are you to talk about god when you spoke to biggerthebetter like you did? You wouldn't know god if she shoved his dick up your ass. typical christian filth.

  • @biggahthebettah I dont know why you assume I am a Christian. (I believe God is One and that He is not a man--Christians do not believe this.) And you are chastising me for my reply and in the same breath your mouth turns into a turn-choked sewer? This isnt the Jerry Springer show or the junior high playground sweetheart. What, have I stumbled across a couple of homely, plain-looking girls who didnt get invited to the prom and now men are the enemy? How sad and pathetic. I'm sorry for you.

  • @DanielForkbeard poor baby. Can't get laid, so you take it out on all women, eh? Go live in Afghanistan...although I'll bet you couldn't even get a woman there at gunpoint. American men with their entitlement complexes crack me up. For some reason, they think they are born deserving everything, including a woman. Take a shower, read a book, and shut up. Nobody cares about your little opinion, sweetcheeks.

  • @DanielForkbeard I think the main reason many (most?) people leave Judaism is that it has, by and large, has thrown out the baby and kept the bathwater. Without its kabbalistic mystical heart (unknown to most Jews), it is lost. But then this makes it no different from Christianity or Islam. A bunch of rules and rituals is utterly insufficient for a spiritual life - and at the end of the day, beside the point.

  • Oh please. Hasidic Jews debate whether or not gentiles even have souls.

  • @koroigetsuga not true

  • Why would I want to watch a video about pious Jews leaving their faith? I think that it is sad. Yeah, bacon tastes good but not that good.

  • @DanielForkbeard It's not inherently sad for one to come to terms with their true beliefs, no matter what those beliefs are.

  • @Juhsayngul Although yes this does seem less about the religion and beliefs and more about the culture, and it's not so bad to find your own lifestyle anyway.

  • I think the ex-hasids in this movie are being too lenient. Its obvious they don't wish to hurt their families. But we can be silent no longer. The orthodox jewish communities have untold numbers unreported absuses from murder, rape to rabbinical sex abuse that never go reported. If people thought scientology was a bad cult, well you haven't seen anything yet. I think there should be government intervention to break these dangerous fanctions once and for all

  • koroigetsuga

What a hateful thing to say. How the hell would you know? Were you brought up in that culture; I think not.

  • @Lagolop

How would you know whether or not they were brought up in that culture? My experience is that the deepest antagonism towards it comes from personal experience.

  • @Lagolop: actually, I have personal experience. my imagination is pretty crappy, truth be told.

  • @koroigetsuga Can you back up any of your serious allegations with evidence--and if so why haven't you gone to the police and filed charges?

The Torah says that a person should not bear false witness against their neighbor.

  • I was born into a religious family.

In addition to disliking religion for its dishonesty and its pathetic struggle to pass off myths as truths, I also dislike it in a deep, visceral sort of way.

These days I won't have anything to do with religion. I'm an atheist, a critical thinker. and a much happier person.

  • Interesting. I was an atheist and my life was miserable. I attempted suicide and was pretty un-critical in my thinking. Fast-forward to a year ago, and now I am at the happiest point in my life. I believe in G-d and am quite a critical thinker, almost attaining my degree in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, read loads of books, and am quite satisfied with the point I am at.

Guess a contradictory subjective opinion denotes that an experience does not equate truth.

  • Do you think evolution is true or did god create the world in 6 days?

  • @region1111 thats bull shit you cant be happy if theres no meaning to your life i hope you find the lite before its to late i realy feel bad for the pepole who dont beleave when moshiach comes and the skie opens up and evry one sees the truth its not going to be so great for some pepole please open up your eyes the time is coming very soon!

  • @shizer347 ok shizer-boy, call me when the shuttle lands.

  • @region1111 It's funny how atheists almost always call themselves critical thinkers--as if they have a corner on the market. And yet, when one holds their "arguments" up to the light of logic their arguments spring holes like old boats. For example, region111 says he dislikes religion for it's dishonesty which is a global statement about all religion. He doesn't demonstrate logically that they pass off myths as truths, he just says it. Another casualty of the secularized public school system.

  • @DanielForkbeard meh just take any ridiculous religious myth. Like, for example, the myth that god will punish you for not keeping shabbat. What a crock of shit. No one gets punished for that - we see people happily go about their lives every friday and saturday without they or their families being hurt.

  • @region1111 Please debate w/o reviling me or by using filthy language. I will respect you more if you use reason to win your case. David also was puzzled because he saw the wicked prospering and it caused him to doubt , until he went into the Sanctuary of G-d and there realized that G-d would eventually judge the wicked and bring them down. The wicked man schemes against the righteous, and gnashes his teeth at him. The LORD laughs at him, for He knows that his day will come." -Psalm 37:12-13.

  • @DanielForkbeard I tried to use reason, but some people are impervious to it.

  • @region1111 You tried to use reason? That means you stated a premise then you backed up your premise with examples--I must have missed that. I admit I didn't understand your previous sentence that reads, "Meh just take any ridiculous myth." Is this a complete sentence with a subject and a predicate? What does "Meh" mean? And your statement that no one gets punished for breaking Shabbat, can you back that up? Only Jews are obligated to keep Shabbat and the Shabbat isn't a chore but a delight.

  • The DVD is now available at the film's website

  • I read the book UNCHOSEN, about hassids who seek out secular lives, but in secret. It's a great book.

I haven't seen this documentary, but I hope it's as good as the book I just mentioned.

  • Make sure to join the Facebook Leaving the Fold group and continue the conversation there.

  • nice, but why were the kids throwing stuff at the camera at the end? ... oh i get it... nevermind, i'll try to watch this doco ;)

  • i want to see this movie

  • Amazing trailer. The subjects of your film are my cousins. May I purchase a copy of it?

    Thank you,

    Karen

    NYC

  • where can i buy/see this?

  • that female in :46 reminded me of a secular jewish girl from israel who i had a relationship with about seven yrs ago---maybe its her or her sis or cuz!!

  • This movie is about my family and my sister and my mother are in it. Those of you who have not experienced what we have should not judge us for what we did. You have no idea what we went through!!!!!! It was torture.

  • Living in New York, I see what's happening. People are born and they're told what to do, but not why. So then when they grow up that cheeseburger is so "juicy and delicious, how can it be bad?" They never learnt what to expect, so when they step outside, they're unprepared. Making an informed decision is one thing. Only seeing one side of the story is something else, and unfortunately, that's all these people have been exposed to all their lives.

  • continued... [both are reserved between a husband and his wife. A woman's hair is also part of her beauty and considered intimate which is why observant married women cover their hair.] Intimacy is holy and is reserved for the appropriate venue. Women may sing for women's groups (if they can fill up a concert hall with thousands of women they can sing as much as their heart desires) and for family members. No other religion in the world adores the features and the beauty of a woman like Judaism!

  • Misconception alert!!

Jewish law says men should not hear the voice of a woman singing (hebrew: kol isha). The reason which has nothing in common with any form of oppression is becuase A) a woman's voice is an expression of her beauty and should be guarded with modesty. B) A woman's voice is arousing and could lead a man to have sinful (i.e., sexual) thoughts.

Listening to a women's singing voice is considered in a sense as participating in intimate behavior just like physical touch,

  • @starjsr

which is why it chains them to the kitchen sink and sentences them to repeated pregnancies.

  • @flickard

I think you are totally fucked in the head OR, perhaps you are just a troll that wants to incite hatred against these ppl. Chained to a sink?! You have an imagination.

  • What a pity!

People who have been raised and got to know Torah Judaism the sources of the greatest pleasures and meaning in life, should leave becuase a juicy piece of bacon, it's very sad

"repressed community" ??? where did u pick this up Mr. Bunbury Films, just becuase an individual has a bad experience, it doesn't therefore make a whole community repressive!

BTW actually its tying the left shoe lace first and then the right, it seems this boy wasn't listening in class..

  • Women aren't "allowed" to sing in public, but it's not a repressive lifestyle. Right. Okay.

  • Actually, it's not. Men are supposed to sing to men, and women are supposed to sing to women. In general, inter-mingling of the genders only leads to bad things (and you know exactly what I'm talking about). However, women are more mature than men, so they're allowed to hear me sing. So because of their higher maturity level, this warped conception came out.

  • Women aren't ALLOWED. Therefore they are REPRESSED. You can try to pretty it up any way you want. I'm sure the Nazis had all kinds of nice ways of saying that the ovens were warm and cozy, too.

  • As starjsr says, Misconception Alert! A casual glance at the Torah will show that we view women in higher esteem than men (golder calf, Esther, to name a few). No, we don't stare at women, nor do they stare at men. Women have an internal role, men have an external role. It's only because we live in a society that's so external, anything internal is seen as pointless. I'd prefer the wiring of my house worked and didn't look as nice than one that looks beautiful and won't turn on.

  • So Jews are exactly like Muslims in their oppressive treatment of women...what exactly is it that makes you think you have the right to DISALLOW a woman to do something?

  • Yup, we're just like Muslims. We tie our women to bedposts and physically abuse them. And that's why we make them cover up their bodies, so that you can't see the bruises. Are you kidding me??? Muslims (at least the ones we're referring to, I can't speak about all of them) abuse, beat, and even kill women, we protect ours like jewels. What makes me think I have a right? I don't. But God does. And as He created us, yeah, I think that gives him the right, especially since it's for our pleasure.

  • If they are your jewels, then why shave their heads?

  • We don't shave their heads, they, in their personal goal of becoming as close to G-d as possible, want to be as far away from the prohibition of showing hair as possible, so they shave it. It's important to note that not everyone does. My mother, for instance, doesn't shave her head, and in all probability, neither will my wife. That's a personal or communal decision for them to decide.

  • Don't some jewish women also wear headscarves like muslim women? and others wear wigs? I didnt think there was a need to shave their heads completely...

  • @chrissy278704 what does one have to do with the other? having a short haircut is abusive?

  • you could have used that comment to pursue positive relationships with muslims based on your common practices, but instead you used it to spew hatred of muslims based on ignorance. How do you think a Jew would feel if I made the same comment about jews abusing "their" women. And about the word "their" and "ours" - in what way do you own or possess "your" women?

  • @biggahthebettah G-d forbid that a woman would be told she cannot do something.

Let me guess, you are a goddess and have the right to do whatever it is you want to do without any accountabilty to G-d, a husband, or a community. You are omnipotent because you are female? This attitude of yours--the *entitlement *of the Western, feminized female is one major reason more traditional cultures fear and loathe western influence.

  • I'm loving the way this doc looks...

  • Seems crisp and well-shot.

  • Very nice work!

It makes me want to become Hasidic..... so I can then leave....

  • fantastic! can't wait to see it!

  • Riveting

  • Great work, kudos!

  • Compelling Trailer Bunbury Films - congratulations!
