  • Could you turn that racket down? I'm trying to iron in here!

  • I want to learn how to the mashed potato =)

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE WITH ALL MY HEART. the remake was good, but this beats it hands down.

  • kid at 1:30... awesome moves.

  • @simwrangler they used toronto in the remake :)

  • This version of Hairspray is WAAAAY better than the one with John Trovolta and Zach Efron. They used the REAL city of Baltimore in this movie. They didn't in the remake. I grew up Baltimore city. I know Baltimore when I see it.

  • this has truly hideous hair

  • I loved this movie so much as a kid. I think it did a better job at creating the 60's feel than the remake did. I didn't really like the remake that much, and I was actually HOPING to like it! Big disappointment.

  • @RastaRach you should upload the whole movie

  • i think the remake was good at being more colorful and i duno more like the 60s but the original is so much better i didnt like the fluffy brodway feel of the other one and i didnt like amanda bynes and i like how it seemed like the guy in this movie actually liked tracy like ther was actual sexual tension there and he was really cute and im sorry john Travolta was super creepy and potato like in the drag but christopher walken was a sweet father

  • It looks so '80s, even the hair in the girls don't look like in the '60s

  • Unlike many, I think the remake was so much more upbeat, exciting, funny and fabulous! Sorry but the original is so dull, the actors all seem bored as well.

  • The 1988 version is a friggin' masterpiece! One of the best movies EVER! I still have dreams of Divine saying "Ya know, hon...it's the times: they're a-changin'. Something's blowing in the wind..." The dancing, the comedy, the look of it all, the cast...the HAIR! It's all there, and if you haven't seen Waters' masterpiece, you're missing out, kid!

  • The two versions are both great. This one has more comedy while the other one (2007) is more musical. That's the difference between the two.

  • Just finished reading Low Budget Hell, about the John Waters movie. A lot of insider insight, dang!

  • This and Cry Baby were my favorite movies when i was a kid, im 18 now and still love it! The remake was good at best but no one can out do John Waters. :)

  • 2 people use gel

  • You can't beat the originals !

  • Yeah I definitely like the remake better, love the music and pretty much everything about it

  • Why did they cut Good Morning Baltimore?

  • I think some of the styles are pretty right-on ... my mom says her older sister had the same dress and same bouffant as the "falsies" girl at 1:40 :)

  • I love this song;) wish tht they had it on itunes.

  • I still like this better than the movie musical.

  • Besides the soundtrack to Hairspray-can any one recomend a decent compilation of the type of 60s music used in this film? Thanks!

  • lol, i watched this movie on television and the hairstyles are unrealistically high, I guess it's satirizing the culture of the 1960's

  • i love this movie and ricki lake. i wish they had the whole thing up.

  • I just want to say that the new movie isn't a remake of this one . the new movie is based of the Broadway musical and the the musical is based of this movie and what I'm trying to say is that you can't call the new hairspray a remake because the original is based was never a musical to begin with .

  • I watched the new Hairspray one time. Now it sits in my room. Should have watched it before I bought it :-/ I love the ORIGINAL Hairspray

  • @pimpchic1 Me too! I didn't even bother with buying the movie musical remake!

  • And with this film, the first hole in the Ozone was made...jk

  • SOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE AWFUL HOLLYWOOD VERSION!!!! I don't even like the stage version with all the crappy songs...Original is always best people!

  • @xmardyx The stage version was first....just sayin lol

  • @MayokoLove actually the film was first. the stage version was adapted from the film.

  • @MayokoLove actually the film was first. the stage version was adapted from the film.

  • @dilibiscuit Oops! lol Was thinking about another musical XD lol But still....I love the stage version....because I'm in it rt now :p haha

  • @MayokoLove This 1988 movie was first, and the stage version was based on this movie!

  • @mimmar3891 lol I know.....

  • this1 better than the new hairspray :3

  • LOL @ 2:54 :D

  • Remake> Original. :)

  • @youngwarrior10 WHAT?!?! the original is a million times better. Divine is incredible. So much better then John Travolta any day of the week

  • I love the orginal BUT I do love the remake also lol C'mon....John Travolta as a woman? priceless haha

  • i love the original , i did see it first , but i thought i did see the remake first and then remembered i had seen this before lol

  • So this version had none of the songs in the 2007 remake?

  • new world...Roger Corman's production distribution firm.

  • A lot of people hate this movie because they think it's too "campy," but the way I see is that this film is so campy and so over-the-top that it seems to almost parody itself and never takes itself too seriously. Which makes it more enjoyable for me because it's as if we all (audience and performers alike) are in on how absurd this is but have decided to enjoy the ride anyway. I love this version and think it far surpasses the remake. Great, great film.

  • @cukistcrispeque Very well put.

  • @cukistcrispeque Absolutely bulls eye right on with your statement. The original is far superior to the remake. It is precisely that campiness and abrsurdity which makes this movie so special. I would also like to point out the the kids in this cast were all incredible dancers. Come on, who the hell does the Madison or the Gone Gone song like those kids these days? NOBODY!!

  • @cukistcrispeque This is the template for the smash Broadway Hit, the Hairspray Musical was based on. Do't anybody get it twisted.!

  • @cukistcrispeque I loved this. Saw the "broadway musical movie version" and just was not the same.

  • @cukistcrispeque I've never heard of anyone hating this film because its too campy.

  • @cukistcrispeque I agree totally. This movie also has a real personality, if you will. These are fictitious people, but they are based on real people and real events in John Waters' life growing up as a teen in Baltimore. There' s a real connection there between the director and the film. A love and respect for the subjects of the film. In the remake, it's so watered down and processed, you never feel like anybody is or could ever be real so it has no meaning.

  • The kid at @1:29 has SIIICK MOVESS!!!! He's so goodd!!!

  • I love this film!!!! I used to watch this movie with my sister when we were both kids! LOL!!! Tracey Turnblad is the best!

  • i love this movie soo much better than the new one, sorry john travolta but this is better.

  • I WANT TO DANCE LIKE THE BOY AT 1:28 - 1:35

    IT'S AMAZING!!!

  • Where can i watch this full movie? pleaseee, ive been dieing to see this again!

  • Colleen FitzPatrick aka Vitamin C played Amber Von Tussel. She did this movie several years before becoming a pop star.

  • "I wish my hair were ten feet high"

  • ALWAYS GONNA BEST!!! FUCK THE REMAKE.....

  • looks like the guy at 2:35 is enjoying his hairspray...

  • This is exactly what an 80's version of the 60's is like.

    XD

  • nobody can top Ricki Lake when it comes to Tracy Turnblad. it's just a fact hah.

  • i LOVE the original, my pussy hurts

  • Nikki was amazing in the remake and the movie was pretty good as far as remakes go, but nothing can beat the original.

  • I wanna see this one, now!

  • I prefer this soundtrack to the new one actually, Nikki is amazing but i prefer this one

  • I like both of them alot but i really like this song but i think both movies r good

  • The guys were more vain than the girls....I guess we know where the term pretty boy came from.

  • @Newtwist75 i do beleive that it is here on youtube

  • I haven't seen this one. Can someone by any chance get me a link or something to where I can watch it?

  • Seen both, and the original is the best, mainly because it is so original-and Divine is so much better as the mom instead of that overacting Travolta, and Jerry Stiller is way funnier than Walken.

  • Don't get me wrong...I love this version, but the remake was great too!

  • omg this sucks, I've been watching the original and have not laughed or enjoyed it once...so lovin the remake

  • Greeeeeeeeeat!...

  • j'adore...

  • i think thiso nes better but the actors are bad in this exce[pt for ricki lake

  • You cannot compare anything to John Waters. This movie will always be the best over any remake.

  • try ebay

  • this is a good movie. i dont know y so many people think the 2007 version isnt good.. that ones just as good. i dont really care for musicals but i liked it. there both good i think

  • I agree original was original remake just garbage

  • I must be honest; I saw the remake before this one. I liked it a lot, and decided to see the original. I fell in love.

  • People keep on referring to the 2007 version a remake when it really isn't at all. It's based off the 2002 broadway musical and therefore will alter a little bit. I like this one better too :)

  • i don't see how anyone could like the remake better than this one. The new one is way too vanilla not too mention not nearly as trashy as the original. i love john waters.

  • WHERE CAN I SEE THIS ONLINE AHHHHHH

  • @mariaeg123 Buy it. Support the movie.

  • I CAN'T FIND THIS MOVIE ANYWHERE!

    shitt.

  • hey you should upload the whole movie ive only seen the remake

  • The Remake is better, it easily grabs your attention and keeps you interested and not bored.

  • I have to say, I enjoyed the remake much better than this one.

  • Every time I see this movie I feel like I'm "home." I love it!

  • i have this movie and i love it i hate the new one!!!

  • THis is my favorite version of Hairspray. I like the 2007 Hairspray movie, but it doesn't have the song nor a small part of "Hairspray" in it. THat makes me slightly mad.

  • I refuse to see the remake. I LOVE this movie.

  • @aramsey420 I'm with you!

  • @aramsey420 i TOTALLY agree!!!!

  • mmmmm Nikki Blonskey was iight, but no one compares to Ricki Lake.

  • I want to watch this! Does anyone know where I can watch the whole film online? I live in South Africa so we don't get the DVD over here.

Also, Hairspray (2007) was NOT a remake of John Waters 1988 film. It was a film adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical Hairspray, a stage production that was based off John Waters film.

Anyway, back to my original question...any information regarding where I can watch Waters' film would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! :)

  • @IEjonnywas Exactly!!! NOT a Remake of the 1988 film

  • This is one of the best movies I've ever seen!

  • The school scenes were filmed at my high school. Pretty much the only special thing to ever happen around here

  • I wanna see this one.

  • WEIRD!!!!

  • better than the remake! saw it when i was 22 at the movies. guess you know you're getting old when they do a remake...

  • wow its funny how easily you can pick out the film noobs in the comment section. you can't compare the two movies, they're two separate entities. its almost as bad as when people try and compare books to movies. its not a recreation its an interpretation.

  • way better then the re make thank you very much

  • is the sound really bad or is it just me? i have it at max volume and can barelyhear it...

  • @marilyn55 Doesn't mean the sound is bad, it's just the volume.

  • @marilyn55

ya i know but you just have to turn it up in your speakers cuz the vids volume is really low

  • Hairspray was ORIGINALLY written for the screen, and was LATER converted to a 'Broadway Musical' just to clear the air :)

  • @DarkPrincess702 I guess some think that 2002 came before 1988.

  • I guess everyone forgot that Hairspray IS and always WILL be a musical...So stage is better than both of these movies...

  • @keepnitfaggity This inspired the Broadway musical and the 2007 version. So without this one, there wouldn't even be a musical.

  • this one is best.

hate musicals...new one is a musical.

  • Song in the beginning?

  • @Victorian9322 It's just titled Hairspray.

  • i havent scene the second one but i know i wouldnt probly like it any ways ive always love the first one no one can do it better then ricki lake

  • @ReidysGirl29 Don't watch the musical, especially if you love this. Travolta ruined Edna.

  • @JackLivesTogether your so right i loved this movie to much then they re made it. and the re make was so bad! they really didn't have to do that

  • @ReidysGirl29 don't watch it...it is terrible!!!!!!

  • @ReidysGirl29 seen* probably* anyway* loved* ricky* i'm from croatia and i know english better

  • Who is the little fella doing the Mashed Potatoes.from 1:26 - 1:34? He can really do that dance ....

  • i know right!! i was rewinding it time and time again to try and figure out how to do it haha

  • @pajamagirl123 LOL....

  • I love the original movie. I did not like the new one at all. The original is far better.

  • Oh hell yeah! i love this movie!!!!!!!!!1

  • The origional was WAY WAY WAY better than the remake!

  • @TomsFriendKake Totally agree with you!

  • @TomsFriendKake I know and john waters actual written the remake! he's been busy allot with hair spray remake and like a squeal in the works...I'm like WHAT?!

  • Great movie, Great Song, Great voice. Thank you for share it.

  • This movie was way better than the 2006 version with John Travolta and Queen Latifah, the newer movie focused soley on the racial issue!

  • damn that kid at 1:28 can daaannnccee!!

  • are you being ironic?

  • umm. i don't think i am. i just think he can dance well. being that the mashed potato is kindof a hard dance

  • I just wasn't sure because it seemed plain for freestyle, but you're right that he did own that mashed potato. Why do you like this version better than the newer one?

  • i enjoy both versions for different reasons. i saw the newer version first and i love musicals so for that reason i thought it was quite good. i became interested in this one after i read about ricky lake talk about it being her first role. so i checked it out from my school library and i loved it! i guess cuz its full of john waters' craziness and i got to see where some of the songs and dance moves originated from.

  • Cool - I haven't seen the older one but will check it out now!

  • u def should! just keep in mind the 80s hairspray isnt a musical! i didnt realize that when i first checked it. although i still love it i was initially a little disappointed.
