SWTOR is the best MMO in existence... a game changer. I've played MMO's for about 7 years and this is the most fun I've had... gotta go, time to play.

this video kind of summed up how I felt from watching people play SWTOR and being on the edge about it. I was bothered by the stiff animation, lack of classes, and general lack of innovation as an MMO other than voice acting....SWTOR shows how mainstream MMO's, despite all their complexity, have changed very little from the days of EQ and early WoW other than improved graphics and catering to a larger mass market.
Im not bias about any game, if its fun then its fun. Ive never played an MMO took a chance on this game and its good! The cinematic trailers is what got me interested most. Thanks for the good review.
Like it or not the general public of gamers enjoy this formula, and therefore has a huge replayablilty. The developers know it's not easy to make a great MMO, so why change when it's not broken. My friends and I have been playing SWTOR for 2 weeks now and we can’t stop playing. Maybe because we still love WoW's gameplay but got tired of the warcraft universe.
Even before WoW there was Everquest that had the same MMO formula, so you can say this is a total WoW clone. In the past many developers tried to differentiate themselves, only to find out that it losses its fizz, and eventually forced to close down servers due to its lack of subscribers. (ei. FF14, AOC, GW, Rift).
Another review that takes both the good and the bad into consideration. Kudos to you sir. I would have added the fact that the developers failed to deliver on their promises (revolutionizing the MMO genre), but that's just me. Also, you might want to turn the music down on your future reviews, it gets a bit hard to hear you.

A pathetic trading house which actually isn't bad because there is nothing to trade, because the crafting is non-existent, which is ok because the pvp is boring after ten minutes so what do you need progressive gear for anyway? So you get to grind static, lifeless mobs and run back and forth across warehouse maps which are supposed to represent "planets" over and over to fill up that subscription time, when this game would fail as a single player. State of the art fraud.

It's a huge disappointment. After playing many hours of SWTOR, I could see why SWG fans who played the beta and final game extensively are disappointed as well. I turned a blind-eye and didn't believe them but now i do. It's a theme-park MMO, and lazy. It doesn't do the Star Wars brand any justice at all. It's a tragedy.

2 days after and BioWare are already crapping their pants trying to add content? Players have already hit lvl 50 and are bored to death. Compare this to the Age of Conan endgame content fiasco, and Funcom takes the cake and walks away smiling, because BioWare failed in this regard.

A 4 out of 10 someone is obviously not a Star Wars Fan. If you knew all the Lore they Put into this game you would love it no matter what. The Gameplay is Fun it is better then WOW on so many levels and seeing is how you compare it to WOW on all fronts did you forget to mention the Fact that WOW had Shit content to start off with. WOW Sucked at the start got better and well it still sucks. The writing is not bad there are a few lines that are not needed but comparing it to Twilight FUCK YOU!

BioWare was and is never about the visuals, although they look good. They are known for dialogue conversations and choices, pause and unpause gameplay style, and emphasis on deep combat. Although they have been on a steady decline as of late.
MMORPGs all look to me like they are ugly PS2-era games with tank-like animations, bad controls and no real purpose on what to do. This one sounds even worse. So they kill Raven for his pants..... Dude....
I have looked around a lot at this game and it makes me think meh...It's not worth the money each month and most certainly not the extra 60$. IMO. Kinda disappointing, because I'm a big Mass Effect whore and I typically expect a lot from Bioware because the Mass Effect series is so damn good.
seems like you complain on the fundamentals of what a mmorpg is suppose to be? Cooldowns,rotations,quests kill x amount here and there, group up and do instances and progress the story. The author is right, SWTOR is stale when it comes to combat. Nothing like World of Warcraft. And I am not bias. I've played LOTRO, Guild Wars, WoW, Warhammer Online and I've invested a lot of time into those games.. and nothing compares to WoW. I put in at least 50 hours into SWTOR and I can't seem to push myself to play more. The mirror classes are lazy.. the game makes healing an afterthought when healing is an extreme fundamental in MMOG's. SWTOR is average.
he makes a couple good points, but at the end of the day SWTOR is wow/kotor combined. Making it the best current MMO and one of the greatest games ever. Fully voiced characters is an amazing feat and I guarantee no none BioWare MMO will feature fully voiced characters for another 10 years. Starwars has a huge fan base, Bioware didn't need to reinvent MMO's. They just did what they do best and copied wow. Blizzard hasn't change shit since the original wow and I doubt Guilds of War will either.
First of all I haven't played this game so I can't tell if you are right or wrong. But your reasoning based on what you have experienced sounds very reasonable and tbh I was expecting the exact same judgement of this game. So in conclusion: A very well done review - I am most certainly waiting for Guild Wars 2!
You review a beta build of the game without exploring and experiencing every avenue the game has to offer and that somehow translates into what people here are assuming is a complete and thorough review of the final retail version of the game... I'll just go review Diablo III and base the quality of the final game upon my experiences within the beta. It's just a beta, nothing changes right? Safe to assume the final build is just as incomplete and unstable.

Grouping is encouraged more in this game due to the fact acquiring a social badge and accumulating social points lets you purchase certain in game items. More or less my point is, playing any MMO solo is boring in my opinion. its just not fun and makes every quest feel like a grind. At least they implemented some system that rewards you for grouping. And based on this review Its like you "solo'ed" the whole amount of time you played.
@spilldose Regardless of what the long-term rewards are for grouping, you can make the argument that playing in a group or with friends is far more interesting for absolutely any game you play.

So i can't help but notice you didnt mention the change in professions and how companions are actually the ones doing all the farming for materials unlike every other MMO that has been released. That too me is one other important PRO you forgot about. This game is also Heavily dependent on group questing, soloing in this game is terrible...its boring and feels more of a grind that it was when i was playing with a group outside of dungeons as well. It seems you didn't group in this game at all.:/

The companion is a big mistake. It makes the player lazy. The great thing I love about most MMOG's is that "I" have to do the work... not wait for my companion to go sell my gray items. My companion and I can solo and damn dungeon... and this not only narrows the game down to a single-player game, but it also defeats the purpose of what MMORPGs should be about - and thats the community and grouping up. Guilds, teamplay, party up, and take down bosses and dungeons.
Great review. You weren't biased and you clearly stated the game's pros and cons. The only criticism I have is that the background music was WAY too loud in some parts. I suggest you lower the volume a bit in future reviews.

Guild Wars = New... Where? The way you review is nice but I cant agree at all with what you say, I loved the game in beta. Star Wars Galaxies was a fail and this game does not look like it's going to be another fail so I guess Galaxies wast as perfects as you make it out to be.

as far as being biased, i can sense that you hate(or don't like) traditional mmorpg gameplay style of point&click while going through hotkey skill rotations. it is reflected in your review. but i do agree that this type of gameplay is boring and lackluster.
You do have some valid criticisms about races, and such, but there is so much wrong with your review that it is hard to give them any value. You have a good voice to listen to, but please call it a preview and make some points. Calling it a review and assigning a rating with so little actual information takes away any credibility you have, not to mention your obvious biases.

The later planets are more open, but you didnt get there. Also, its a "Story Driven MMO". How many stories aren't somewhat linear? Total Fail.

ive played this game to lvl 24 and i love it because it reminds me of kotor. skipping all conversations just show that this isnt a game for you. il give it 8/10 because it dont reach out to all kind of mmo gamers. if yóu love rpg games with a awsome story for each class this is a game for you.

It's a huge disappointment. After playing many hours of SWTOR, I could see why SWG fans who played the beta and final game extensively are disappointed as well. I turned a blind-eye and didn't believe them but now i do. It's a theme-park MMO, and lazy. It doesn't do the Star Wars brand any justice at all. It's a tragedy.

A 4 out of 10 someone is obviously not a Star Wars Fan. If you knew all the Lore they Put into this game you would love it no matter what. The Gameplay is Fun it is better then WOW on so many levels and seeing is how you compare it to WOW on all fronts did you forget to mention the Fact that WOW had Shit content to start off with. WOW Sucked at the start got better and well it still sucks. The writing is not bad there are a few lines that are not needed but comparing it to Twilight FUCK YOU!

seems like you complain on the fundamentals of what a mmorpg is suppose to be? Cooldowns,rotations,quests kill x amount here and there, group up and do instances and progress the story. Thats how mmorpgs are suppose to be. Why would you want to change it? The story alone is what pulls us into these games, I don't see anything wrong with it imho.

The author is right, SWTOR is stale when it comes to combat. Nothing like World of Warcraft. And I am not bias. I've played LOTRO, Guild Wars, WoW, Warhammer Online and I've invested a lot of time into those games.. and nothing compares to WoW. I put in at least 50 hours into SWTOR and I can't seem to push myself to play more. The mirror classes are lazy.. the game makes healing an afterthought when healing is an extreme fundamental in MMOG's. SWTOR is average.

he makes a couple good points, but at the end of the day SWTOR is wow/kotor combined. Making it the best current MMO and one of the greatest games ever. Fully voiced characters is an amazing feat and I guarantee no none BioWare MMO will feature fully voiced characters for another 10 years. Starwars has a huge fan base, Bioware didn't need to reinvent MMO's. They just did what they do best and copied wow. Blizzard hasn't change shit since the original wow and I doubt Guilds of War will either.

You review a beta build of the game without exploring and experiencing every avenue the game has to offer and that somehow translates into what people here are assuming is a complete and thorough review of the final retail version of the game... I'll just go review Diablo III and base the quality of the final game upon my experiences within the beta. It's just a beta, nothing changes right? Grouping is encouraged more in this game due to the fact acquiring a social badge and accumulating social points lets you purchase certain in game items. More or less my point is, playing any MMO solo is boring in my opinion. its just not fun and makes every quest feel like a grind. At least they implemented some system that rewards you for grouping. And based on this review Its like you "solo'ed" the whole amount of time you played.

So i can't help but notice you didnt mention the change in professions and how companions are actually the ones doing all the farming for materials unlike every other MMO that has been released. That too me is one other important PRO you forgot about. This game is also Heavily dependent on group questing, soloing in this game is terrible...its boring and feels more of a grind that it was when i was playing with a group outside of dungeons as well. It seems you didn't group in this game at all.:/

The companion is a big mistake. It makes the player lazy. The great thing I love about most MMOG's is that "I" have to do the work... not wait for my companion to go sell my gray items. My companion and I can solo and damn dungeon... and this not only narrows the game down to a single-player game, but it also defeats the purpose of what MMORPGs should be about - and thats the community and grouping up. Guilds, teamplay, party up, and take down bosses and dungeons.

@vidyagaymelive Except that WoW had no real unknowns at the end of the games that came before it (i.e. Warcraft 1-3), where a book needed to be released to clarify events, and teasers were released in trailers leading up to the game to hint that certain characters may be in the game at all... bottom line, it may not be a major spoiler to you, but it was for me, and I'm sure others... you even mention yourself how you've read "all the story spoilers", so that's your choice...

You do have some valid criticisms about races, and such, but there is so much wrong with your review that it is hard to give them any value. You have a good voice to listen to, but please call it a preview and make some points.
