Yes I have heard about 20 of his songs I actually play them lol I was being a little sarcastic. To be honest I don't really get his humour anyway. I prefer people like keith lemon(bo selecta), or sean lock etc
I liked it. I just wish it didn't go off a cliff as it does. I wonder how hard it would be to find that entire performance/lecture. If you like weird stuff, like Lehrer, you might dig Ernie Kovacs, a weird pioneer in early Black & White TV.
@Stantzs He's going to always be alive. In time, we'll be making intelligent life on other planets laugh with him. You've found one of Humankind's jewels. Congrats!
i owe almost all of my twisted life to tom lehrer. i knew and could sing along to almost all of the songs on "songs by tom lehrer" by the time i was three.
AHHHHGG!! Where's the rest of it? :-( This is one of the few Tom Lehrer routines I have never seen & it's a lecture!! Wish I could take HIS class! He is funny, witty, & didactic all rolled into one. Thumbs up Tom.
I second that.. he's just soooooo damm cute, smart, and sweet...not to mention an absolute incredibly pianist and composer. Some people just have all the talent.
video quality and zoom smoothness and a comparison of his face from the sixties to that in this video seems to indicate that it was in the mid-eighties.
Agreed :-) There should be a Tom Lehrer day, and it should be in the US. Lehrer is important, and if you doubt it, click on my username. This "new" video was OK, but Lehrer was at his best in the sixties :-) and he deserves a place in our hearts and in the history books :-)
as sad as it may be, he isan will always be one of the smartest, but hes not going to be in our books for a simple fact wear he belongs, a higher Goverment
Go click on the username jonathanwentcrazytoo and among all of the uploaded videos you will find two named Tom Lehrer. The one with less views is part 2.
I was a math major at UCSC (1980) and I don't believe Tom Lehrer was a Math Professor there. He had originally been a Math Professor somewhere on the east coast. When he went to Santa Cruz he became a professor of musical comedy.
Tom Lehrer graduated from Harvard in 1947, and taught at MIT and Wellesley. He moved to UCSC in 1972 and taught math (amongst other subjects) until he retired in 2001. He still lives in Santa Cruz.
Most of these songs were never professionally recorded. The only one which is commercially available is "That's Mathematics", which is on the box set "The Remains of Tom Lehrer".
tom is so great iv managed to get my science teacher to let us listen to the elements song tomorrow, i slight change to what we normally do in science. it should be fun. you should watch the march of the sinister ducks. its got nothing to do with tom, but its really funny. just type it into search and prepare to laugh!
oooh loved this, and love being around other Tom Lehrer fans. I was in SOOO much trouble for singing the irish ballad in kindergarten. (but it was worth it!)

seriously big fan. grew up on toms music. he is a genius and highly underrated.
I'm currently doing Differentiation stuff in Maths. I heard this guy doing the Elements Song when I was in Chemistry, and my friend gave me a link to Poisening Pigeons in the Park.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Lehrer, these aren't the best songs or performances. Get his albums from Amazon. Or download them somewhere. His other stuff is quite funny and better performed. But he's a math professor, not a performer.
Its a far rare talent to write material like this let alone put it to music. I'd like to see Mr Lehrer arrange a work along the lines of Gilbert and Sullivan and comments on his singing ability obviously dont understand audiences just want to hear brlliance... regardless.
I grew up with Mr Lehrer - I probably knew the words to "Poisoning Pigeons" at 6! Loved listening on my Dad's Reel to reel tape! - Wasn't able to get my own for twenty years! - then it was an import! - This is the first time I've seen him! Thanks!
Not his fault, apparently, for any Lehrer fans, he was sued by Werner Von Brown, after the song of the same name. Damn shame. He was put off after that. Damn shame.
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!

Was it Tom Lehrer who who made the record (and I do mean a 10" 33rpm record lol)'It's In The Book' and a funny take on 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'? Have vague memories of these from my youth.
What a treat to be seeing him on video. i enjoyed remembering hearing his voice on Electric Company. He was hysterical. I remember Mascohism Tango, (my favorite Pigeons in the Park) LY, and etc.
I love Tom Lehrer's work. He is a very talented man. Bought his CD (The Remains of Tom Lehrer) last Christmas - highly recommended. My favorites are numerous and include Vatican Rag, New Math, National Brotherhood Week, MLF Lullaby, Send the Marines, So Long Mom, Who's Next.
I've been loving Lehrer's songs since the days of Dr. Demento back in the '70's.
