I was a math major at UCSC (1980) and I don't believe Tom Lehrer was a Math Professor there. He had originally been a Math Professor somewhere on the east coast.  When he went to Santa Cruz he became a professor of musical comedy.

Tom Lehrer graduated from Harvard in 1947, and taught at MIT and Wellesley. He moved to UCSC in 1972 and taught math (amongst other subjects) until he retired in 2001. He still lives in Santa Cruz.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Lehrer, these aren't the best songs or performances. Get his albums from Amazon. Or download them somewhere. His other stuff is quite funny and better performed. But he's a math professor, not a performer.
