They'd rehearse for 8 hours a day, and Beck would come in every once in awhile and spend an hour or two to hear how things were coming. I love Beck, but perfect he is not, and on that tour they definitely were not perfect

@DIYTFY I have a hard time believing this. I saw The Flaming Lips open for Beck in 2002, and they were supposedly his backing band for the whole tour. Both sets were fantastic. I went for Flaming Lips and they stole the show IMO. The chemistry on stage between Beck and the Lips seemed fine.

yeah "that guy" with the flood light and megaphone is Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips, but you know he's just some guy when it comes to Beck. Ha. Simply laughable. Wayne and Beck didn't get along. Beck Hansen just kept doing ridiculous rock star shit that embarrassed the Lips. Don't get me wrong. I love Beck. It seemed great in concept, but in the end I don't think it personally worked.

From what I know, although there are rumors abound as usual, Beck and the Lips are great friends. Wayne is a totally different personality though. I love Beck to death and he has influenced me for 18 years now, but if I was going to a sweat lodge ceremony, I would want Wayne with me instead. If I was dropping acid, I'd want Wayne there instead. Just a more carefree soul and isn't a scientologist.
