LOL-birds can be escape artists! My lovebird did that-and it was easilly solved by clipping a clothespin across two bars above the door. Why on earth did you have a male and females together?
@nicolleteperfect. It's easy to put them back in. Easier if they trust you. When you want to tame them, take one out at a time. Then once fully tamed, you can take both. When I was taming my, I would put it back in the cage and take it back out, it would act untamed. I think the other was a bad influence. (: lol, mine are tamed now tho. Budgies / parakeets take time.
is it hard trying 2 get them bck in their cage? how do u get them bck in their cage and can i let 2 budgies out of their cage 4 the first time at once. is it better 2 do 1 at a time?
@acidflash I'm so srry to hear that :( My cage came with a whole to the right side of the cage so we also put twist ties there so it would be safe with bars a breeder gave us. Ya know just in case ;) And seriously sorry about your bird. 3 of mine died too :'( I would rather not say how cause people judge me about it and it wasn't my fault. but 1 died for another reason. But however I know how it feels when u lose a bird u loved:'( RIP SKYLAR RIP SUNNY RIP MURPHY!! I love u all!!
My birds used to escape from the cage too! Only one would escape at a time though. They also knew when I was coming, and would run like hell as fast as their little clawed feet could carry them and they would get caught trying to find their way back in.
thats nothing i use to have two couple years back and they used to squeeze through the bars i was like wtf when i woke up in the morning and they where out of their cage
parakeets are so smart! . I took the cage out in our patio for the night and when i woke up in the morning she was gone! good thing i found her! she was freezing. :( But i warmed her up afterwards. shes ok now.
My parakeet Snow tries this all the time. But because of our dog (back when he was alive) and a fear of her getting stuck or hurt we always keep the doors closed. She tries to bite you through the cage. She once got out when we were changing her water and hid in the corner until she was put back in the cage.
She has to escape the cage her own it seems. We now open the cage with safety precautions put in place to stop her getting hurt...and she won't come out of her cage XD
i have 2 birds adn one of them comes out every morning adn the other one trys to escape but his still lerning how to get out lol but oen of them can allready
ya my birds did that too. same exact thing but on the food door things. we had to rubber band it up. then he ate thru and did it again lol. oh and then he did the big door. that was the coolest bird ever. he would land on my dogs head and ride her around haha
Birdies are so intelligent, this is exactly why I wont buy a cage with lift up doors. My ringneck used to do that at night and terrorize the cockatiels we had, then he'd open their doors and steal their cage and we'd wake up with them all in different cages. We ended up using a padlock on his door, because he got past the pegs.
Whenever i've had budgies, I've had to use extra pegs to lock their cage doors. I let them out of the cage at times during the day but if for any reason I needed the main windows/doors open in the house then they have to stay locked inside for their safety. They'd go into the cage when they're hungry.
It looks like he was waiting for the blue one to escape too. Such joy to watch - please feel free to watch all the clever things that my African Grey can do, you will be amazed.
Yeah once one of my birds escaped out of its cage, and flew away from home. I actually spent the whole night praying to God that my budgie would come back and after 3 days, my little bird came back. We had to catch him though but he did try to attempt to go inside the cage. What a smart bird I have! Your bird is super smart though, it ca open doora, mine can't.
careful though....sadly that smart one who opened the cage one day opened it and never came back =[....then the blue one got depressed (= husband) and died and then the mother of all of them, the one in back preening, died a short time later...really sad. they're all gone now :(
@Mr291229 after all passed away, i never bought anymore. i dont think any could replace these guys (and it would take way too much time to get them to trust me all over again!)
Haha it's almost like I can understand them, when the green one messes up and the cage door falls back down on his feet, the blue ones comes over and says squawk squawk! *you idiot!
When I was a kid, we had a budgie named Birtram who did the same thing. Birt's cage door became a landing platform if it was lifted a certain distance. The first time Birtam opened the door by himself and let himself out, my dad was angry with my brother and me for being carelsss. Dad put the bird back, and Birt lifted the door, pushed it forward, and let himself back out. Dad was amazed that the bird could open the door, and he apologized to us for accusing us of being careless.
Smart lil girl ;D My budgie Boomer hates coming out but can speak english. My old budgie Paco could open the door a little but never succesfully escaped. He could talk and say "nanananana!" whenever he lifted the door xD
