The E34 is my personal favourite amongst the 5-series.

It's easy and cheap to drive, you can have lots of fun with it and it's really easy to control in a powerslide/drift.

The E39 is even better in every single way, but it's looks ain't anywhere close to being as great as the E34.

according to bmw mechanics, e34 is the champion durability wise. well i had a 94 525i. it was absolutely reliable. more than my e36 i would say. ride is very firm as well.

Well it depends how many previous owners the car had, and the general condition. And your disposition to overhaul the engine, as a preventive measure. Even if it's cheap to buy, it ain't by any means cheap to run. Watch for rust, suspension noises and ticking noises from idling, as well as excessive tuning.
