  • too bad the real drexel shaft isn't dead

    :-)

  • wow. that glass building near by really shook. suprised no windows broke

  • wow this camera is better than my own sight

  • ooooooh watchya saaaay, this soong is soooo fuckin gaaaaaay

  • @SUPERAPE22 hahaha

  • Very nice camera

  • Was this a RED camera?

  • Gorgeous shot! Nice job man

  • LOL BEST FUCKING VIDEO

    drexel checking in

  • sell the footage to viagra, to run backwards.

  • hahaha that is very clever.

  • Viagra increases size, it doesn't un-break things... unfortunately for some people I guess.

  • @johnnydollar666 LOL that funny comment would make a laughable commerical you go form this to this haha.

  • noooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • It falls so slow :O

  • As for the significance of the shaft and it's destruction: The smokestack is called the Drexel Shaft and had basically become a symbol of the school's bureaucracy and it's common tendency to "shaft" students (the legend is that whenever one of us gets F*#&ed over by the bureaucracy the shaft grew 1") . So the destruction of the the chimney was symbolic to as as is represented our hopes of one day overcoming/bringing down the unbelievably difficult administration at the school

  • The music was a perfect choice, LOVE IT! (for anyone that is against it, the music is to spoof a one tree hill season finally a while back and also a subsequent SNL skit. So put in that cultural context of what happened in those it fits the video brilliantly.)

  • @EatSleepBreathMovies I agree, it works well for being used in something funny but can be serious as well.

  • seth is gay!

  • haha i cant even read what i wrote anymore

  • Nice vid, but damn, this song is the most overused thing on teh intarwebs...

  • Niiiice, nice shot!

Were they expecting the tower to break in the middle? Very good video, you can see the sysmic impact at building glasses behind

  • 0:37,,,OMG the the glass of the next building was shaking :D

  • very nice! sad moment for philly, but your capture makes it bittersweet.

  • This is great cinematography. This video is actually how I found out about this demolition.

  • The symbolization is powerful but the thing falling down is cool!!

  • Not gonna lie, this actually made me tear up. So beautiful.

  • I love the bird flying across the left corner at the very end. :)

  • i notice some barrel distortion, was this shot at shortest focal length of the camera's lens?

  • Yeah, this was full wide and I was as close as possible as I could be to the implosion.

  • @b1lskirnir was it a RED camera?

  • @hbjimbo Nope, just a Sony EX1 overcranked to 60 fps at 720p.

  • Certainly is phallic.

  • awsome =)

  • lol 1:25 random bird flys by probably thinking WTF?! i needed to take a shit in there

  • lol you made me laugh ^^

  • lol thx

  • awesome artistic rendering of destruction! love it!!

  • I have favorited this video because it is the only video that is:

a - shot with professional equipment

    b - edited/enhanced artistically

c - without audio of annoying college students shouting

d - captures the remorse and anticipation that this event brings to me and for the city of Philadelphia.

  • what about the annoying song from the OC that plays?

  • good lord I want that camera

  • Awesome video.... well done. The slow motion HD looks incredible!!!!

  • phenomenal

  • que bello, de pana que si

  • Very beautiful...

It evokes a certain unexplainable emotion everytime I watch.

  • bureaucracy wins in the end.

  • Not personally nuts about the music, but that's amazing footage you got there.

  • emo music and destruction go hand in hand. just wondering, how is this fighting against bureaucracy? what does amtrack do but help provide people with public transportation? unless there was something more to it. nice clarity in the video btw.

  • The bureaucracy refers to the school, not Amtrak

  • that was emo music? lol

  • Man I love this video. It makes something as mundane as a concrete chimney falling to be completely awe inspiring, and stir emotions. It seems as if the the entire city has halted to see the stack fall to the earth. Very surreal, thanks for the video!

  • -Your powers are weak, old Shaft.

--You can't win, Drexel. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

    Now look what you've done!

  • great video

  • @splitfire1000

you and other people who share your view are most commonly referred to as dicks/asshole. You will make money and help the economy with your opinion, however nobody will ever like you... because your a dick.

    :)

  • wow. what a horrible fucking song to put this too. Bad choice man. Bad choice.

  • are u fucking retarded? it goes perfect with teh video. whoever made this vi has good taste

  • why did they blow this up?

  • Wow... a whole paragraph of you complaining on the internet.... You really stuck it to the man right there .... Nobody fuking cares what you think and REALLY a whole paragraph.... maybe you should burn your bra.... Cool video anyways!!

  • youre really cool

  • thanks man. I was gonna say the same thing about you.

  • at 0:39 you can see the glass in the building in the background create a ripple effect. pretty cool

  • epic

  • my dick is like that when sarah palin talks

  • whats the name of the song?

  • Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek

  • Hm... I wonder if they were fans of Uriah Heep.

  • sound wave shakes glass jesus

must have hit it with some force

  • i don't know why, but i really like this vid

  • How long before the conspiracy nuts claim it was Bush that did this?

  • They should replace it with a giant dragon. Like, Lady Liberty big.

  • i live near philly

*screams in background he y guys new jersey matters for once*

  • really great quality

  • Great. Maybe they'll put in some parking...lol

  • If you look closely at the tall glass building when the shaft hits the ground, you can see the hole thing shake

  • yo the song fit

  • fake

  • your explanation of the video is very confusing...you need to clarify the relationship between students, bureaucracy and a giant smoke/steam/whatever stack.

  • Bahaha

  • maybe you could get off your ass and do some research faggot

  • Research it. It won't bite you.

  • gay song

  • HAHA Jason uses this song

  • THE SOOONG NAMEE !!!! ?

  • its in the ad...

hide and seek - imogen heap

  • there a kinda hip hop remix of it its called, [ Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo

  • Sucks dick

  • not really i kinda like it, no great but no bad

  • @kaka702

lol i don't even know when i posted that comment....

But yeah i like this video alot

  • So... Sorry, but who's performing the song in this video? This video mesmerizes me and I think it's in part the song that does it, yet I cannot find this version.

  • Imogen Heap - hide and seek

  • So why are they destroying the huge tower for was it a coal plant at one time.

  • SaberTanker22-

This 1929 coal-burning electric plant was built to allow Pennsylvania Railroad to switch to electric trains. They used the waste heat from the generating process to heat nearby buildings. It has been idle and deteriorating since 1964 and was becoming a safety hazard. For more info, google "Famed Pennsylvania Railroad smokestack is demolished".

  • 0:39 - the glasses almost broke

  • Mr. Drexel, tear this tower down!

  • thumbs up sir ,thumbs up!

  • Good One! Brings back memories to this member of Class of '66

  • wow you can see the windows vibrate from the building in thta back. that was a hard hit!

  • As an alumni of Drexel (which is in Philadelphia btw) I, for one, won't miss the shaft. Nice video. Kudos.

  • what the fuck is gonna be our new symbol of bad luck!?

  • Wow great quality, you see the glass shaking!

  • at 0.09 it falls of a piece of the tower (or it could be a man.) maybe it is the piece's fault.

  • Man looks so sweet in HD, I spotted a plane in the sky,

I don't know anything about the building but I gotta say that was sweet, I especially thought it was cool when the shockwave hit and rattled the windows of the blue glass building

  • Why was this a symbolic victory for the students of Drexel University?

  • The student lore was that when Drexel students were faced with red tape from Drexel's administrative staff, the Drexel Shaft would grow by an inch.

  • I wonder why they brought it down to the side like that instead of straight down. I bet the blast crew were nervous as hell until it hit the ground.

  • quazzie11-

Seems like if they had it come straight down then one side might catch and cause it fall in an unpredictable direction. If they make it fall to the side then they can guarantee where it goes. Just a guess.

  • Sounds like a good guess to me. And considering where it landed I believe it went just where they wanted it to.... right into a clear spot. As good as any lumberjack I've ever seen.

  • for a moment i thought it was gona hit the glass building

  • I was in the parking lot directly opposite this video!

I thought it was going to be 9/11 and drop straight down, but then it went sideways!

When it hit the ground you could feel the concussion.

I was right next to the Cira Center (glass building) and could see the glass shaking like jello!

  • I'm gonna miss "The Finger", as we used to call it in SEPTA's rail yard. (Bottom of the video)

  • yes

  • My Favorite!!!!!

  • wher is this?????

  • Look at the building that's all mirrors shake when it hits the ground.

  • Interesting vid thanks. As for the tune at first I thought it was some lame boy band "vocal group" but no it's very cool.

  • Hahhahahaha, I laughed when I heard Imogen Heap. Quite an appropriate choice of music.

Really impressed by the image quality.

  • Sexy

  • NIcely done :)

    Dexter

  • you can see the shockwave on the glass building when the shaft hits the ground, pretty sick

  • thanks you :] have a nice day ;]

  • It's "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.

(also, it's a play on the ending of The OC). Nice work.

  • no the song is not "watcha say" is something else that is smother and i need the name if it like "remix" for something please i need it it sound so good

  • what's the name of the song?

    please answer thanks you

  • watch ya say

  • Real video...just enhanced and slowed down and with music to match the mood.

  • Great quality! I was there and it didn't even look this good. I guess my eyes aren't HD

  • Fake.

  • thats funny, my penis did that exact same thing this morning in reverse

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • very nice work love the music with it

  • The low boom at the beginning is so ominous, I love it. I think we are really getting to a point where the ideologies of the world will begin to contend for dominance in a more open way.

May the best one for the people win. Hopefully it can be accomplished peacefully but I have no delusions.

  • This is the best video of the drexel shaft.. The others are quite shaky.

  • nice. i saw this vid on Tom Fulp's page on Newgrounds. i love philly

  • ok ok after cross referencing vidoes i now say this vid is most definitly legitimate thought i still think something seems odd

  • sry but when u play dear sister music u really cant expect a person to take it seriosly

  • YEAHHHH FIGHT THE FUCKIN MANNN

  • really? how does that look ANYTHING like new york? im pretty sure new york has a lot more sky scrapers than the 10 philly has. and since when did philly buildings look like the empire state building?

  • It reminds me of the towers in Pink Floyds Pigs video.

  • best angle of the shaft on youtube

  • None of the buildings look like the Empire State.

  • one does it's where all the tall buildings are mashed up toghether. the one in the middle has the same top structure like the Empire State

  • it's called liberty one. my father work on that building

  • for sum reason i really like this video..it reminds me of life

  • you can see new york buildings when your at philly?

  • I like Phil's better. Commentary is key.

  • what remix is this?

  • its not a remix its the original song

  • My personal favorite part is at :40 seconds in where you see the actual building the camera is on shake from the shockwave just shortly after the Amtrak building. Good thing it's a good tripod because it certainly felt a lot more intense than that.

  • this is wot happens when u miss viagra

  • Your video is much nicer than mine. I was right at the angle about 2 minutes before it went down the sun came out and made the shot very harsh. You also have a nicer angle.

  • Seriously awesome video. Perfect framing and music choice, you really couldn't have picked a better song. And I agree with @DeviouslySweet, the bird at the end is a nice touch, almost like it was planned. Don't post another version either, it wouldn't be as good.

  • Even watching it from Ucross not more the 100yards away it still seemed so surreal. But this takes something interesting and otherwise mundane and makes a spectacular sight out of it. This is masterful excellence. I LOVE HD. keep up the good work.

  • that was really beautiful

  • The quality of the camera and the color correction is amazing

  • DOWN LIKE THE TITANIC

btw, got a normal speed version of this?

  • I want a version dubbed with "Where Is My Mind" by the Pixies, a la Fight Club.

  • Seriously excellent capture.. and the color correction is very cinematic. Nice!

That's an angle I'm not used to seeing of the Amtrak building, too..

  • i used to have a penis head and balls drawn on my dorm window and if you looked at the shaft from just the right angle, you got the full monty

  • who did the music please?

  • Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap

  • @buncandrown

Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap

  • nice video

  • Hahaha, love the song choice and the random bird at the end

  • Strange to drive past it into the city today.. and its not there anymore.

  • "A symbolic victory for the students of Drexel University and their fight against bureaucracy."

Please explain what you mean. What struggle is going on?

  • @HarpuaScorpio The student myth was that every time a student was faced with red tape from Drexel administration, they are "shafted" and in turn the Drexel Shaft grows an inch higher.

  • Gotcha. Thanks for replying!

  • @comeonnowforgodssake There's many other vids to prove that it's real. It's just that it's in HD.
