Roberta is truly awesome. There are not many primadonna who can match Roberta
in agility and accuracy in intonation whilst manages to maintain dignified gaits & blissful facial expressions all at the same time with such an ease. This is the area where many others just can not keep up. The virtuosity of Arciliuto continuo player is also worthy of praise outperforming cembalo. The entire group is impressive & the Arìon Consort never fails to give me outstanding pleasure to watch and listen to.
I have a doubt: was this aria REALLY composed by Haendel? I know it's in Scipione, last aria of 2nd act..., but I think that doesn't sound very haendelian, what do you think?
Yes! Or Ciampi. May be Haendel hear'd some similar aria and copy the idea, like Ombra mai fu by Bononcini or Sposa non mi conosci by Giacommelli. Both "borrows" aren't an exactly copy...
It does sound like Jommellian composition doesnt it? Whilst vocal coloratura embellishment is likely of Porpora style. But I can not be so sure since Niccolo Jommelli was 29 yrs younger than Haendel. However, He sometime uses the same theme over and over again from his earlier Concerto grossi heavily influenced by italian composers during his stay at the palazzo di cardinali Otoboni o Gonzaga. He also memorised the tune sang by his chosen castrati once worked for A. Scarlatti or N. Porpora.
That's the trouble with trying to quantify music into periods and styles, there's always a bleed-in/out. It's just great to fool audiences with very Classical sounding music written within the same generation as Handel. I'm thinking more along the lines of Vinci, Leo, Graun, Gasparini, Dreyer, etc. Any Neapolitan composer, really. Either way it's great music.
too good !!!!!! thanks

Musique difficile, mais superbement interprétée par Mme Inverzinni et et les musiciens du Arion Consort. Bravo !, et merci.

Exactly! Insertion arias aren't uncommon and everybody stole from everybody else. It seems we have the same taste in music.
