This pedal makes any kit sound better! If you use a Digital modeler you will be amazed at the warmth & fatness this adds to your sound! I use it with my Tonelab and Trademark 60 for recording. I use it live with my Mesa Boogie and it's never off! Best pedal I've bought in years. Can't recommend it enough!
I leave this pedal on at all times with it's level set to 0. It still improves the signal and adds a light smoothness that is only truly noticeable when you turn the pedal off and on while sustaining a note. I love it and use it at the front of my chain. Once you have one you will not want to get rid of it :P
did you run the EP booster behind the BB MP then? In that case would you suggest running the EP behind overdrive pedals? I'm thinking it would be a great buffer before fx as I like running everything into the front end, and then it would just add that much more to my grittier OD pedals. I know there are a lot of possibilities, but would that be an awesome setup or is there something more recommended?
@linux666apocalypse lol, it's a Jimi Hendrix song that Mayer happened to cover: Wait Until Tomorrow...speakig of which, I'm still waiting to hear the name of the song at 2:40
Good demo as always, is this like an rc booster but different form? Is it like a bbe sonic stomp but different company? Im lookin to get something along these lines, help please. Thanks
I'm considering buying this pedal, but i'm not sure whether it's a clean boost or not. Does the pedal itself stay clean all the way or does it add OD at higher output levels ?
@fend14 - It is a clean boost, which means that it has no overdrive of its own. Just clean gain. It will, however, push your tube amp into overdrive, which is its intended purpose. Hope that clears things up for you. Thanks!
@ProGuitarShopDemos Ah ok, I was unsure because I read comments on this pedal saying that it has a nice crunch to it, which made me start to doubt. It does push the deluxe reverb into OD fast it seems, but my super reverb will stay cleaner I think.
Awesome, The Jesus Lizard @ 5:30! Nice boost! Andy makes everything sound good. I bet he could make Ashley Simpson sound good if he wired her to a pickup and played her.
sorry for this tupid question.. but i'm using an ep booster and i can't find out wheres the proper position for this pedal is it
guitar > ep booster > BB pre amp >amplifier
or
guitar > BB pre amp > ep booster > amplifier
i'm using this ep booster as my lead booster , but sometimes i also using it to boost up the headroom of my sound... need u'r advice desperately.. thx ^^
@tatoylinardo Everyone has a different opinion on pedal order. Honestly, I would try it both ways and go with what you think sounds best. That's all that's really important anyway!
@tatoylinardo I hope this doesn't confuse the issue more for you, but both are very practical uses to achieve different effects from the pedal; Allen Hinds actually uses two on his board, one before and one after his main overdrive to achieve both that open headroom and also to just boost his straight ahead drive signal. I believe he also has the dip switches at different positions. But if you dont want to shell out the cash, just ask yourself what is more practical for your purposes.
i already have the bb preamp plus...does the bb preamp plus pretty much cover what this EP booster does or would it work well in conjunction with the the BB? The BB + already makes my strats sound huge...
I tried them both, and the EP booster was much nicer. I ended up buying the RC booster because you can dial in more tone and because the EP booster sounded a bit too trebbely
I bought an EP Booster for the new board I just finished building and it is by far the most important pedal on the board. The pre-amp is amazing and the buffer aspect is absolutely needed. If you don't have this one... Get it.. You will not be sorry...
Can i say that EP Booster can be used as a signal buffer in front of whole pedalboard like Lovepedal buffer for example? Or it have another working principle? Thanks!
@baceace - No. Active pickups require a battery-powered preamp and electronic circuitry to operate. Passive pickups use wire wound around a magnet to do their thing. Very different designs. A pedal cannot make passive pickups active. A google search will turn up some more detailed explanations of the subject. Thanks!
@xXNeoShredderXx Personally I don't use it all the time, but mostly when I need a bigger sound for some reason. However I know what you mean, because I used to do the same when I owned an RC Booster. They are both great pedals, but the EP Booster is extremely pedalboard friendly too (that's the reason I decided to buy one to be honest).
the song u play was wait till tomorrow by john mayer right ? :) or was that also a coveR? i dunno anyways nice pedal! i love this channel gives a good view of what you might want and what not
This pedal is "Butt" simple, as written about, but it gives me a whole new pallet of colors to work with. It makes my guitars volume control an effective tool, without any tone loss. Awesome!
Yes, this pedal can be a buffer (to drive long cable runs) and a solo boost - BUT it does more than that. There is subtle compression and EQ'ing (in addition to the buffering) that "sweetens" up your tone.
So to use it as a solo boost you would put it at the end of your chain and engage it when needed. To use it as a buffer, you would leave it on all the time typically as the first pedal.
I would suggest getting both a dedicated buffer and a boost.
@bmwz20 - yah you got it - front of the chain after the guitar, end of it is just before the amp. Of course the need for a buffer and it's benefit to your tone will depend on how much cable you are running before the amp. But it is usually a good idea to put the pedal acting as a buffer as close to the guitar in the chain as possible.
this may be a stupid question but like, ive seen boost pedals and im wondering is like this one and the electroharmoinx line booster and stuff are used for solos, or more for tone or more for signal boosting if u got a big effects chain?????????????help me cos i wanna buy one
very cool Over the hills and far away... And sweet demo. Was kinda heading towards the MXR Micro amp, but I think I like this one more... I'll take it.
@ProGuitarShopDemos If this was put in an FX loop, how would it affect the sound? Would it just make it louder? I think this would be better out front to drive the preamp harder.
Could Pro Guitar Shop please give me the exact pedal settings they are using for the wait until tommorow clip at the start of the video. Please! I need this sound!
Where are people putting this pedal in the chain? I am thinking about after my overdrives and before delays and other effects. Does this make sense? Are you guys putting this before the overdrives and distortions?
I going to do the same thing, with a delay and this pedal. Last in the chain, save the ISP noise gate. Reason I want to do this is to mimic an Echoplex.
distortion is always last, i normally normally use this order reverbs, delay, wah, filters, flange, phase, octave, overdrive, distortion, noise gate (i rarely use it), volume.
but thats just me listen to it and mtry what sounds better
I would imagine it would make the most noticable difference after your drive pedals, but before any other effects. It would probably help shape whatever drive pedals you are running. If you put it first in the chain, it might add a bit of grit but, I imagine it would be hard to tell. The EP booster seems like a subtle effect.
The MXR Microamp is the best for if you want to preserve clean tones on your amp because it uses op-amps and not trannies.
the LPB-1/2 is the cheapest and sounds amazing as a booster. I have made around 4 of them and they make great start up projects for a first build.
I tried one of these alongside an LPB-1 (finally found a shop that stocks both) and the difference is more noticable at lower volumes but i couldnt tell the difference at gig-levels
I actually like this one better than the BB, it would work great for a beginner like me because it's clean and simple, it does the job nicely without a ton of extras I don't need yet.
Boosters are cleaner than overdrives when pushing the front end of an amp (even if any pedal will add it's colour to the sound no matter what) boost pedals can also be used as a controllable secondary master volume when plugged into an fx loop overdrives cannot
john mayer, this is deffinetly steve jordans song all the way the drums for it are sick, john is so underated as a guitarist, but overrated as a celeberated
couldn't i pull some of these sounds off with just a tube screamer or other od's on a low setting? Not saying that it's better, but i'd much rather have a tube screamer that could do what this pedal does similarly, but also reach higher-gain tones.
Can't recommend it enough!

jamesstone123 2 years ago
Knob on Micro Amp = Gain.
Pianoblacks 2 years ago
whats your point?
gain is just the same as volume.
If you are recording you dont set the volume levels for each track being recorded, you set the "gains".
Id say listening to it would be a bigger clue than the name.

I don't really care much for boost pedals, but this one really surprised me. It gives you just what you want without giving too much.

john mayer, this is deffinetly steve jordans song all the way the drums for it are sick, john is so underated as a guitarist, but overrated as a celeberated

couldn't i pull some of these sounds off with just a tube screamer or other od's on a low setting? Not saying that it's better, but i'd much rather have a tube screamer that could do what this pedal does similarly, but also reach higher-gain tones.

Do whatever you want man. The whole point of tone shaping is to find what's best for your personal tastes. No one's judging.

Wait Until Tomorrow - nice!
John Mayer does this nicely with the trio
I'd much rather hear more of that than the contemporary music he continu(um)s to release...
He's too good of a player to hide his chops
