@SilverScreenReviews Might wanna check your oven calibration for a start. Otherwise maybe just keep an eye on them since you're supposed to be stirring occasionally, and take them out when they're done instead of strictly relying on a number on a clock. Would seem like after the first time they burned you'd think.. hmm.. maybe my oven is running hot, I should keep a better eye on them the next time so they don't burn.
@Criterion515 Yeah, I did keep and eye on them. They were charred well within 15 minutes. Doesn't anyone else think 450 degrees for 30 MINUTES is way too high a temp for too long??
@SilverScreenReviews For roasting veggies? No. Not really, and especially not since you're opening the oven at least twice to stir. If you weren't opening the oven, yes, but since you are it takes several minutes for the oven to recover from opening each time.
I have ALWAYS HATED Green Bean casserole. However, making everything from scratch eliminates all the chemicals-especially the MSG WHICH GIVES ME A MAJOR HEADACHE. The Campbell's Soups have it.
This is delicious and fresh and healthy and isn't slimy. I
This IS TRULY the BEST Green Bean Casserole!!! Follow his directions to the letter and I promise you'll enjoy! The nutmeg seems wrong but it really brings out the flavor!!
That's what I love about Alton Brown. He does nearly everything from scratch (when all he had to do was pull out a can of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup), but he makes it so easy-peazy.
I follow the instructions TWICE and TWICE the onions have burned to a crisp well before the 30 minute mark. WTF?

Just made this for Thanksgiving dinner, it came out fab!
Highly recommend!
Only thing I did different, was more mushrooms, topped with a little more panko crumbs for a crispy top.

I did wind up using some yellow onions, and they turned kinda pink and didn't brown very evenly as the white ones in the vid.
Serves me right for second guessing Mr. Brown.

I'm using this recipe to try and sway my friends away from hating greenbean casseroles, as they are wont to do.
FRESH BEEEEEEENZ!
