I hated fire drills... Loathed em as a kid cause they were sooo loud! And when i would cover my ears the kids would laugh and joke, oh look at him, etc etc.
I am glad to see a video where someone understands what its like :)
Im an aspie and Im proud of who I am and this video is very inspiring.
I am sorry, but to me this seems too much like NT paternalism. So have somebody your own age teach you how to blend in and refrain from doing things that other kids understand? I think it is more practical and ethical to teach kids how to explain themselves than to do what others do, unless that is what the particular kid wants. And sometimes the problem really is just the other kids, but nobody wants to take the time to address it.
oh my...my child always freaks out over the fire drill at school. He also has a very hard time using the bathrooms in a public place. The noise of the flushing toilets and the echo of the voices drives him nuts. Although we have him tested and he "does not have AS", he has a mode disorder. This must be on the spectrum for the more and more I read about it the more I see my son.
I have AS and I remember liking it when the fire drill went off becuase we got to go outside. I just didn't like having to stand in line. My sensory problems were mostly touch based.
Thats a good idea
