It's almost always about greed. The Europeans plunder but having paid something, their consciences are clear. The MR gov't needs money but they seem to have "sold out" their own people. Who knows how much of the money has lined the personal pockets of the powerful. To have not compensated the local fishermen is unpardonable. This is a true story that mauritanian people lives day in an out,and it's very sad that their is nothing that they can do about,because the people are opressed under a very crule regime that cares only about themselves.

This is an interesting story but it is typical on this continent. For example In Sierra Leone you can find the same foreign interest in this very poor country very high illiteracy rate very rich in natural resources,diamonds, but the wealth doesn't go or stay in that country at all. The same here if the Mauritanians like it or not it has to due with corruption and a system of nepotism, which means the wealth of the country is only passed between a few hands.
