Wait a second. Your console is actually working properly. I'd really like to see the motorized mechanism that moves the laser back and forth along its horizontal rails, maybe that would give a clue as to the origin of this error.

You want my opinion, personally? I think Microsoft did this on purpose, so that when the consoles were actually profitable to manufacture and sell on their own, people would have to get new ones. Planned obsolescence.

@1white999 he hasnt broken his xbox as it is fixable and it isnt because the lid is of the drive it dosnt need that to read games it just needs the magnet taking out.

@littlebozzy56 If the black thing isnt there there is nothing for the disk to be pushed onto so the disk cannot spin. A disk that cannot spin cannot be read. I am not saying that this is the problem but testing it this way will always lead to failure.

@1995racer to fix the alignment of the disk to the laser theres a couple ways, take that POS apart figure out which side of the spinner the disk is slanting, if its slanting towards the laser or slanting towards the front of the drive or whatever, just gotta put a disk in and press on the disk gently, the side that doesnt go down any further is the side you gotta realign. take a flat head screw driver and fucken pry that sucker up. or you can adjust the screws underneath. Mine i had to pry itup

if the disk doesnt spin when you put it in, its because of an alignment issue with the spinner. the disk gets too close to the laser, thus the laser wont read it. you have to fix the alignment and tweak the laser.

when you press the close button tap (kinda hard but not to hard if you get my point ) about 1 centimetre from the crease where the faceplate is on the top you know the argh cant think of it you know what i mean anyway do that it works for mine all the time if it dont you must have a different reason why its saying it

just open the tray, take the disc out and wiggle it up and down abit. put the disc back in and it should work.

if not, when the disc tray goes back in, push on it and hold it further up or down into the xbox, that should do it.

I fixed mine before, but after like a month it has the same problem like the video..the laser lights up then it makes those two grinding then the laser lights up again after the disc is done spinning.Ok the first time I had this problem I cleaned the two bars that guide the laser with Q-tips and also the motor on the side that makes the motor move (The one that looks like a gold Drillbit then I lubed them both up and the probelm went away

Its going to be hard to tell what the problem is if its not opened. Also try and find out what kind of drive you have. Hitachi drives are easier to fix since its most likely the little motor thats not spinning at full speed.

You wouldn't happen to have a BenQ & Toshiba drive would you? I haven't seen a fix on youtube for that specific drive and that's the drive I have. I'm also getting a 'mixed media' message now. Alot of the times the laser and the spindle thing aren't in sync. I think that's what ONE of the problems is. I say one of the problems because Ive had them both work at the same time before but that's when I got the mixed media disc while everything appeared to be working fine.

I did exactly what jstearns had done, and it worked, but all of a sudden my laser flicks on real quick, moves like a 1/8 an inch and just doesn't read the disc anymore. I have a similar problem. My discs weren't spinning, so I took the 360 apart, and cleaned and put WD40 on the spindle. Now the disc spins and the laser turns on to start reading a disc, but while the disc is reading/spinning the laser stops doing anything..

Yeah I think its bouncing to the right place but I figured out that the laser doesn't light up at the right time. It lights up before and after the disk is spinning.. hmm..
