If you make a speech in public, don't you have notes to remind you what to say? I believe he's speaking genuinely from the heart. Have you ever been in a public speaking venue where someone didn't have their notes and spoke strictly from passion? It's a disaster. They go off into tangents, completely lose what they are trying to communicate, and eventually the audience stops listening because they aren't organized in their thoughts. You go to ANY public speech by ANY speaker and they always have notes on what to say. You don't think badly of an award winner for having their speech notarized. Why is this any different?

I was touched by this respectful tribute to the Jewish heritage. I hope for a lasting, just peace for Israelis -Jews and non-Jews and its neighbors. It is easy to be cynical, it takes more dedication, understanding, and work to create something positive. Whatever god we worship- or don't worship - here is hoping that we can act from our best impulses and abilities.
The President's message was about as subtle as a sledge hammer. It's a shame -- and an insult -- that he used the format of an ostensibly religious greeting to advocate his political agenda.

Just because he has a teleprompter is no different than someone using notes in a speech. It would like rather silly and disjointed if he had to keep looking down at a hand full of note cards. Have you ever been in a public speaking venue where someone didn't have their notes and spoke strictly from passion? It's a disaster. They go off into tangents, completely lose what they are trying to communicate, and eventually the audience stops listening because they aren't organized in their thoughts. You go to ANY public speech by ANY speaker and they always have notes on what to say. You don't think badly of an award winner for having their speech notarized. Why is this any different?

that's a bad mindset to have going into this issue.. it's very controversial and it can't just be the jews who take all of israel leaving the palestinians on their asses.. we'd lose alot of standing around the world.. to solve the issue with any sort of finality we need to compromise with the palestinians. i know, i know, compromise isn't hardly in the israeli vocabulary but it must be done

I dont know why people are making such a big deal about this...no president has ever before extended their compassion to the jewish people as well as other religions as much as obama has. He is at least putting a kind word for the jewish people and is letting them know that he is by our side... Try getting george fucking W bush to do that. Baruch hashem and shanah tovah!

I was hopeful in seeing President Obama reach out to send a Rosh Hashanah greeting. But,m then w/in just a few seconds he turned it into a political agenda push. We all know his plan -- divide Israel into 2 states and split Jerusalem in 2. He talks from both sides of his mouth. It's shameful.

Thank you Mr. President. Only I think we need to rethink this peace in the middle east thing. Israel has already made too many concessions, and no enemy is ever going to accept Israel. Has nothing to do with West Bank settlements or having a united Jerusalem. Plain and simple, our enemies don't want to be our friends. I was touched by this respectful tribute to the Jewish heritage. I hope for a lasting, just peace for Israelis -Jews and non-Jews and its neighbors. It is easy to be cynical, it takes more dedication, understanding, and work to create something positive. Whatever god we worship- or don't worship - here is hoping that we can act from our best impulses and abilities.

I'm really glad to hear an educational blip by the President on faiths other than Christianity. It's important to remember we all have families, lives, homes, holidays (or at least things we find worthy to celebrate), emotions, beliefs.
