  • Saw them perform in Portland last night! I'm glad they come back here often.

  • Amazing. Seeing them Sunday in Eugene, OR.

  • i just found this, but it sounds so familiar, but i dont know where else i have heard it, its driving me insane!

  • @scottyoungs It has been on a couple of TV-shows like Chuck and Numb3rs

  • Earley emulates Dylan so well, it's eerie. One of the best bands of the 21st century.

  • what is the green thing that makes the howling noises? my band could use one of those

  • Great performance of a great song. The album version is a bit more intense and haunting, a little more high energy as well....but this is nice. More of a mellow take on it. Nice upload.

  • Rain Wilson brought me here

  • @mycurse333 Uh...I love Dwight, don't get me wrong. But what could he possibly have to do with Blitzen Trapper?

  • @mycurse333 Hey, thanks. I checked out the Rainn Wilson thing. It was gross, but funny. "Your sandwich, Mr. Trapper." haha.

  • Anyone know what key the harmonica would be in

  • @tobyg8 Sounds like 'C' to me

  • This song is destined to become one of the greats. It may take a while for the general population to 'get it', but, once they do it will be up there with the great ones, such as The Boxer, The Sounds of Silence, etc. I love this song, especially this particular performance.

  • If you like Blitzen trapper, check out The Floorwalkers. Just as eclectic as Blitzen!

  • I love them, and this is one of my faves! :) Furr is an awesome album anywho. ;)

  • I'm seeing them live next tuesday! So excited!! :O

  • what key is his harmonica in?

  • @drunkteenagers

I'm pretty sure it's D. That's how my friend and me played it at least.

  • Ha! i almost thought that was Brent Hinds from Mastodon on the the right!

  • @TyHipster Haha, I wouldn't be surprised; Brent would probably like them.

  • 1:11 holy shit brent from mastodon!

  • @456knarf ahahahah

  • i love these guys so much! i love their live version of furr on daytrotter <3 so good.

  • The harmonies at 1:12. Wow. This is grown men singing at its finest.

    Blitzen Trapper FTW!

  • Love this band. Loved the music for ever. Love the beards. XD

  • did he drop his pick? lol

  • its soo funny cuz those forest sounds are straight out of apple royalty free loops! go in your garage band and play the sound effects things!

  • @davidbassplanc and it's a #5 on this song....

  • @jazzpsalti what?

  • @davidbassplanc comment from a year ago. If you're going to spend time asking me about it, you better refresh my memory while you're at it... fuck man

  • when i first heard him i thought it was Bob Dylan same style same voice!

  • very boring song...harmonica riff was tight though

  • I love this song, I first heard it on Chuck. It always puts me in a peaceful state of mind. I miss Conan... :(

  • I'm so happy the lead singer isn't fat.

  • Im from Portland, Oregon just like these guys! Its great to see them here! :) Love this song!

  • Wonderful number....how great there still are bands making great music :-)

  • emo tonyhawk on the left

  • Tears.

Thank you for putting simple beautiful words and music back in perspective for me.

  • loved the recorded version for, like, a year...learned how to play it... now seeing this makes me love it even more. They're a good band.

  • They seem to be in it for the music, rather than the money ;-)

  • soo I found this on my itunes the other day. I have no idea why I have this song but it's made me very happy.

    loooove it! :D <3

  • Does sound like Dylan. Oh, look, a harmonica too. He is pretty good though, I just don't like that style of singing with so much glissando.

I like the woodland effects :)

  • agree. donovan never played like this. his songs were way more complicated. im not putting down either band.

  • Any singer-songwriter led by an acoustic guitar with amazing lyrics is bound to sound like Dylan.

  • Not really. There is a distinct Dylan sound here. There are a lot of Singer-Songwriter types that don't sound like Dylan. Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan, Chris McCaughan... Going older Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen... It just depends on how much they want to incorporate that sound.

  • sounds like Blitzen Trapper

  • Best comment yet! :)

  • @kizbee it's a compliment to say he sounds like Bob Dylan, or other artist. I thought good artist were never to be born again. But it is true, he has a unique sound and he is soo good in his own way.

  • this guy is totally ripping off donovan

  • please send me a video where this guy is ripping off Donavon. Please I beg you.

  • I don't listen to music that much and this is the first song I've really felt reached out and grabbed me for awhile. Yes I think its a little Dylanish but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. They aren't a Dylan rip off though as the band seems to do lots of different stuff.

  • @marys1000 TRY IT DO DO IT YOURSELF....and i will be a fan of yours....If it's Dylan's or not......don't care...

  • O.M.G.!

Brian Reagan and Blitzen Trapper on the Same show!!!

Where can I get this episode? Please someone help me I'm spazzing out here!

  • hulu

  • who knows where I can get sheet music for this song?

  • capo on the 7th fret.

    G, C, D

thats all they use the whole song

  • what ever, they're good anyway

  • sweet man. thanks

  • first time listening to this band. kind of a dylan rip off

  • no its not

  • the song may pay tribute to dylans style, but none of their other stuff sounds like this one. theyre a great and very unique band. i wish we had more bands like this nowadays.

  • shouldnt even matter if he is ripping dylan off,

dylan ripped that graw from ramblin jack elliot

  • word

  • i like this song !!!

    tnx GranLang!

  • You're very welcome! I'm glad you like it, they're a great band!!

  • What brand/model is that red electric guitar?

  • it's a modded strat

  • are you sure? it looks like it says epiphone on the headstock and it is shaped like an epi headstock.

  • like i said, a modded strat

  • You can always ask on the Blitzen Trapper forum, to be sure. The guys, especially Marty, whose guitar you're discussing, are really good about answering questions.

  • @creaminitup Epiphone ET270T

  • @creaminitup It's a Gibson SG, pretty sure.

  • @aleksaccount nope. i dont know what it is either, but definitely not an SG

  • @creaminitup this is a Hofner violin bass guitar. made famous by Paul Mc Cartney

  • @creaminitup this is a Hofner violin bass guitar. made famous by Paul Mc Cartney (but then lefthanded of course

  • @creaminitup Looks like a fender Jaguar

  • Saw these guys last night. They're very good live.

  • my good friend that I went to high school with - his brother is in this band - Drew Laughery. I just started listening to them though. Pretty good!

  • Chord changes remind me of blowin' in the wind

  • luv it!!!! And I'm 64!

    Gets me up and dancin!

  • I hear a lot of Dylan.

  • My thoughts exactly.

  • such a cool video for this song by the same person who did PT Walkley's "Daydreaming"!

  • Yeah, Jade does great work! I love the Furr video.

  • I'm sorry. I have nothing against this guy, he's great. But you can't compare him or anyone else to Dylan. No one is like Dylan, no one ever will be. Just because this guy plays acoustic and harmonica and sounds slightly like Dylan doesn't mean they're comparable. Dylan is just too great, he's one of a kind, and no one can ever touch him.

  • He looks like the FONZ in the vid

  • looks more like my 9th grade English teacher

  • This is an excellent version of a great song.

Better than the album version I'd say.

  • Ohhh fair enough, mate.

  • man i luv this song mucho

  • im not picking up as much dylan as you are all saying. i feel like every image heavy folk singer songwriter is labeled as sound like dylan a little to easily. i see the influences, but as far as sound, id say young is a closer match. just my opinion. and the whistle is a loon call.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with you about acoustic artists all being compared to dylan way too fast, but this performance is Dylan all the way, from his singing style to his harp licks.

Nevertheless, amazing song and awesome singer!

  • I guess... I still dont agree. I'll give you this song, but the rest of their catalog doesnt sound much like Dylan. The Neil Young + Crazy Horse comparison below is pretty accurate I think.

  • Im just talking about this specific video actually, not the catalog or even the song.

  • listen to more dylan than pass judgement.

  • I listen to Dylan all the time, I just dont hear it. Maybe it sounds like his more current stuff? I dont listen to that much.

  • I think people may be drawing the comparison between this and Dylan because songs like blowin in the wind are very similar to this song. You cant deny that! Same key, same capo position, same harmonica key, same chords, even the tune is similar!

  • HEAVY dylan influence

  • This song sounds like something Bob Dylan could have written easily, but most their stuff sounds more like Neil Young and Crazy Horse, like it could be from Zuma. Like, Big Black Bird, is a good example. Really great, but they'll never one-up Okkervil River.

  • Anyone know the name of the whistle the bass players using?

  • some sort of bird call

  • Its called a "water bird whistle" they are cheap and fun.

  • Oh ight, thanks! Might pick myself up one!

  • Very Dylan.

  • Great Tune. They have a real Canadian Sound. eh!

  • i like this version

  • nice song! XD

  • love his beard.

  • this is the best video ever

  • he's playing it in the same key of blowin in the wind

  • A friend sent this song to me randomly and I ended up playing it over and over. I'd heard 'Wild Mountain Nation' but I didn't make the connection for awhile. Love this band.

  • Lol same here. My friend was telling me about this song and how it sounds like Dylan so he sent it to me and now I cant stop listening to it haha.

  • When I first heard it, my initial thought was "Dang, that sounds like Dylan....". And it is just a great jam of a song. I've played it over and over but haven't tired of it yet.

  • very similar to bob dylan's "blowin' in the wind"

  • learnt it, its so simple yet so effective!

  • shit i wish i was 17 again, and im only fucking 20. smokin pot at the high school at 3am i wish i couldve cherished it more

  • that exact thought runs through my mind daily

  • i cant wait to learn this on guitar, its an amazing song!

  • Very nice - definatly a lack of meaningful muscicans in the mainstream. Makes me happy.

I immediatly thought Dylan with the leads intonation and mouth organ.

Took me forever to trackdown the band while only knowing the name of the song spelled Fur... only 20 min but worth it.

    Thanks OP!

  • You are very welcome :)

  • this song gives me shivers

  • wish i could sound like that let alone be as poetic

  • love this song so much, the lyrics are beautiful

  • Definitely the Bob Dylan of Today :)

  • 100% Awesome.

  • 99% Bob Dylan

    1% Tom Petty

  • A cross between Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel...

  • people that make dylan references to him have no knowledge of music. they are nothing alike.

  • haha ok dude.. its your own opnion.

  • yo homes, they look sound and play like dylan. They even have a harmonica. It's amazing

  • Are you out of your mind? That is a young Bob Dylan clone there, and I couldn't be happier about it. I love Bob Dylan and I love this band. I have over 30 Dylan albums, I have two Blitzen Trapper albums and I will be getting more if they keep this up. If you don't hear the similarity that's fine, but don't say every music lover on this thread is ignorant, when maybe it's your own lack of knowledge that's standing in the way. And thanks for posting this video, it's a great performance.

  • jesus christ amen!

  • hes just imitating him

  • bob "trapper" dylan

  • Very Nice! Hard find good bands these days..

  • blitzen trapper fucking owns

  • agree

  • This is indeed a very good band! I saw them before Fleet Foxes at a live show it Portland last weekend!!

And as if it could get any better, the song is about a werewolf!!

  • the album is amazing

  • completely.

I had never heard of these guys til i heard them on a tv show. checked out there album and i was blown away.

  • I saw these guys a couple years ago in Portland when they opened for the Hold Steady. Amazing show, not many people were there to see them yet, but those who were loved it!

  • wow they r just as amazing live!

ps. is Eric really short or is Conan just really tall?

  • Haha, it's a little of both, really!

  • Conan is 6'4"

  • Shit Blitzen Trapper are so good.

  • mudbassfan, great art has no age. :) This is simply put... a great band. I was lucky enough to see them up for Two Gallants about a year ago in D.C., at the rock n roll hotel. I was hooked right away.

  • this is a great band i like the music. it might be a little old fashioned for me however.

And they really do sound like bob dylan alot it's pretty cool

  • closer to csn&y and donovan then dylan.

  • Good sound, Not at all mediocre by a long shot, but the lyrics are not on par with the music. Music good, lyrics fair

  • DUDE the lyrics are hilarious!!!!!

    do u get the song????

  • this is a good song, of course there is a big Dylan influence, but no more than dozens of other bands. The lyrics are NOTHING like Dylan, though, beyond their story telling quality.

  • I actually think the lyrics are much like Dylan

  • Definitely reminds of my of Dylan, it's awesome.

  • Is it me or does anyone think that Eric looks like a Kevin Rose/Adam Sandler hybrid?

  • great live eh?

  • Fawkin incredible! Now how bout Lady on the water!

  • The whole album is awesome. Its ruff around all the right edges. Buddy of mine saw them the weekend before last in VA area and said it was a great show. Not to mention the fact that they were selling their album on vinyl. come on now, how cool is that!

BTW, 'almasoulguy' is his mothers used douche bag.

  • I love this tune. The lyrics are wonderful. Whimsical, really.

  • just saw them in norman. phenomenal musicians and phenomenal show.

  • Dammit I love this song so much!!! Beautiful song and clever lyrics.

  • Umm I'm pretty sure Eric sounds like Eric not like anyone else.. lol I mean I'm his cousin and hes had a great voice ever since he was little and hes played his own music forever.. hes had people to inspire him but hes got his own style.. the band sounds great and I love them.. I miss you Eric.. hope all is great!

    Your Cousin Bethney Earley

  • almasoulguy: he wants to sound like bob dylan? solely because he uses a harmonica? listen to another one of their songs then tell me he wants to sound like bob.

  • i can see how he thought of dylan, the vocals are a sort of subtle-nasal style

    i dig.

  • i like it, seeing them monday in norman

  • Blitzen Trapper visited us today! Check out a cool version of "Furr" at my page.

  • I like "GOd & Suicide" best, im going to see them next week here in memphis.

  • sounds kinda like Bob Dylan cool

  • looks like there'll be quite the crowd in athens

  • I love this song but it seems sort of religious, which is sort of jarring for me

"turned to instinct and obedience to God"

"you better be sure if your making God a liar"

  • just saw BT here in Boston the other night...great show! Furr is a killer album!

  • I bet Bob Dylan's his favorite

  • SO good, seeing them wednesday, so pumped

  • Are you seeing them at the 40 watt club? I'll be there too.

  • This song sounds old and lived-in, in the best way. Like a classic song from the 70's. Cool story in it, too. Love the new album.

  • Such a simple chord progression, but it sounds so original and... amazing...

  • no it doesn't! it sounds like he wants to sound like BOB DYLAN!

  • I hope conan keeps putting on such good artists even after he makes the move to the tonight show

  • brings peace to my heart

  • shit son this is a A plus performance.

  • My english teacher is the dads drummer. They are my favorite band ever. We are trying to get them to play at my school

  • it sounds like the song royal jelly from dewey cox

  • Eric Earley is so short lol but cute

  • I love how surprised Conan was at how good of a song Furr is. Seems like he genuinely liked it

  • I feel like this song should be taught to little kids in elementary school music cl
