Fact: Sally Struthers was the voice of the teenage Pebbles Flintstone in "The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show" a 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series which was one of "The Flintstones" spin-offs. "The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show" is available on DVD from Warner Home Video.
Omigosh! I had totally forgotten about this clip! I am so glad that you have this posted. It's great to see that even after 41 years SS still includes people with disabilities! And I didn't realize until I looked really closely that it was Sally Struthers from All In The Family! Perhaps it was after that show ended when she had a little bit more time but how cool that she was there to support someone there!
Seseme Street was really groundbreaking and up until 1998 it featured a wide ranger of people with a many different handicaps, disabilities, nationalities, races, ethnic groups, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, classes, ranks, and so foruth.
So am I. I am a client in a program for special needs adults. Every week they have a therapy group just for people with our disorder. It is very nice!
@Smartboy8877 I'm also in an adult social group for young adults with special needs; there are a few Aspies in the group, as well as people with other special needs.
My big brother always called this one "March of the Cretins". I would ask who are the Cretans, then my mother would chide him, and he would be forced to explain. They are not Greeks, but they're the people that ride in the short bus.
@DizzyedUpGirl yeah? Ive been to different events like the special olympics where there are races for disabled people and the people in each race are matched up based on ability and I have seen some racers use there legs if they can...For me when I use my wheelchair, using my legs actually slows me down but for others that might have issues with there hands or arms (like the girl in the video) that might just be the best way they can get around
I also have Asperger's Syndrome, and I'm kind of proud of it in some ways. It's not a disability or a mental illness -- it's just a diversity in social adaptation and brain wiring. :)
That was one thing I loved about the classic Sesame Street. No matter what stature you are in life, disabled or not, or whatever color you may be we are all the same people on the inside. Thanks for posting this video it's been ages since I saw it last.
I may be blind, but one of my biggest pet peeves is when PPL label me as "Special". I can function in society just like sighted PPL do. I'm just speaking my point of view on general principles. I am not pointing fingers at anyone.
I remember this too love Joe's music in this clip and yep that was Sally at the finish line i'm glad SS did this and how special are those handicappers they're truly special people.
I remeber this wheelchair race. I volunteer with Special Olympics, and we had a few athletes, who were in wheelchiars, and they would be involved in a wheelchair race, and they do a great job.
Those wheelchairs are horrible! I used one of those pieces of crap! I'm very glad things have improved.

But seriously, I am very glad that SS included the handicapped, so that all normal children could feel superior to at least something.
