So here's how I'm reading it: The Russkies have been playing a game of chicken with the Georgians since the end of the 1992 fight with Abkhazia, trying to piss them off. Then when South Ossetia shells some Georgian towns, Georgia overreacts and blows the piss out of Tskhinvali, and Russia decides to retaliate-which it was wanting to for a long time.

Add to Georgia's recklessness the fact that they probably slaughtered a lot of innocents, and really neither side can be justified.
