  • collins is a nasty little man. we lived in godalming years ago and he is a fucking cunt. his wfe at the time would come in the shop and not have enough money as he kept her well short. he was asked to donate to a church jumble sale and he told the people organising it to sod off. and he would then come on the tv and say send in your money to live aid. what a nasty little fraud he is. he writes songs about the homeless yet he threatens to leave the country when he might have to pay more tax

  • good song, bout the only one i listen to by collins though, not a huge fan

  • Seeing this vid after all these years (no longer as a kid) helps me understand the gravity of dude's situation/inspiration. To think I was only excited about the coolness of the sound, the breakthrough of drums 'n' funk and the unforgettable hook. Hey... classic! God bless, t*

  • I guess I must be one of the few people who found out about this song by hearing it on the radio. Everyone else seems to know it as "the song from the hangover" or "the song from miami vice"

  • Creepy tone. I remember this song used to scare me when i was little cause i thought it had to do with Jason. I know i am a retard but the song is kinda close though it is about some one drowning, great song. Phil you killed it with the drum solo at the end.

  • The hangover!!

  • Diz song iz da sheeet, yo. Phil getz a ghetto pass for doin diz song. It's a mo'fo tune!!!

  • this song is awsome...I love the drum beat in this song...the song is kinda mysterious but that is what makes it awsome!

  • why are there extra drums in this?

  • @RickyV300 I believe this is the original uncut album version not the radio edit

  • "....she cited irreconcilable differences while Collins said'It's all been a PACK-O-LIES!'"

  • I heard this song was about a boy drowning and Phil witnessed it listen to the lyrics it makes perfect sense. 'i was there and I saw what you did, if you were drowning I would not lend a hand'.

  • Always amped me up before I hit the sets at dawn, give thanks then carving.

  • such a great song...its also one of the best songs ever written!

  • Aqua teen hunger force!!!!

  • The 'bitter side of a separation' is one of those fundamentally human, timeless stories that no one fully understands...but everyone can relate to. I don't want to like this song or any Phil Collins bullshit, but I have to admit that I DO like it.

It's not surprising that it has spawned urban legends.

  • this song was on pad in full

  • I can feel it coming in the end of night... O Lord... O Lord.

Great song, Bow to M. Collins.

  • sweet

  • MIAMI VICE !!!

  • The best version...

    Search for "Phil Collins Max"

    :)

  • really if you play it backwards you can understand:i want so many woman/i do

this is at the part where he sings :

I've been waiting for this moment

    rofl this is so funny

  • the song is bether with 2pac

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • fuck tupac

  • he looks angry in this song!

  • Thats the point...he wrote it out of anger did you read teh description?

  • what a timeless voice he has, and the music, some of the best ever. We'll never see or hear a band like Genesis and two artists like Gabriel and Collins ever again.

  • One excellent drum rift in this song, Awesome

  • i love bill collins

  • I think you ment Phil

  • Yo i heard dis joint on grand theft auto libetry city storys LoL

  • I LIKE THE MUSIC

  • i think its funny how the lead singer of a band is a drummer... you never see that

  • foo fighters?

  • the random drum outburst/solo is BY FAR the best part of the song

  • the drum solo is the best!!!!!

  • love all phil collins songs es a legend

  • have to agree with Rudzie, you are indeed an idiot. This is timeless, if you were born after 1976 don't bother commenting on things that you didn't live through. This song was a hit even before Miami Vice, in fact I would like to think that this song alone had people tuning in to the show.

  • I don't think the year a song was made has anything to do with it. But I agree, this a truely fantastic, mesmorizing song. But being born after 1976 doesn't matter. I was born in '93 and I still love this song.

  • I agree :)

  • lets be honest, noone really gave a flying fuck about this song untill the gorilla revamped it lol

  • To be honest, you're an idiot. This song is incredible, always has been, always will be. Enjoy your gorilla.

  • to be honest i will enjoy gorilla lol i listen to him all the time

  • listen up uniqueTrash, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't appreciated by someone else. Don't be an idiot.

  • i do like this song if you read my fucking comment properly then your'd know, i said ppl only started liking it from the gorilla

  • I think this song is from his "Face Value" album.

  • good song, gotta say the video and albem cover freak me out.

  • I've been to Collins' las Tourné, when he was in Moscow, the crowd blew up with applause when he started singing In the Air tonight :P

  • one of his best the passion in this song is excellent the story behind the lyrics pure greatest

  • is he alive???

Anyway its great song...a very special voice:D

    love it!

  • i love phill collins he is a f$*&ing legend,i love him soooooooo much his voice his lyrics he sooooo emotional in his songs its unbelivable we need more songs phill what a LEGEND!!!

  • i used to make fun of this song... now i love it. lol

  • The lyrics really take me back to when my parents were going through a bitter divorce. Children are the ones the pay the price when parents get remarried.

  • change !!!!!

  • Honestly, download the itunes version, it sounds SO much better. The drums make the song imo.

  • Bored?

  • go post this on a crap video that has all spam not on any video that people want to watch...

  • if you look in the mirror and chant "in the air tonight" 3 times at midnight you see phil collins head floating in the mirror.

  • lol!

  • Great song to get pumped up before a football game!

  • no, um.... no, just never say something like that again.

  • Not quite a pump up song...But hey, to each their own. XD

  • 3:20-3:4 scared the #$%^##$%^%$ out of me

  • 3:19 epic drum solo

  • does anyone really remember WHY he wrote this song? "i know who you are and saw what you did" is because he found his wife in bed with someone else.

  • i dont think so

    at 1:19

"When they told me you we drowning.."

  • XD stewie sings some of this in an ep

  • could you record that part?

  • Love this song, though this and Please Don't Ask are probably the only Phil solo songs I like.

  • coolness bitch u are right 100 %

  • i would love it if in this video u saw a big gorilla doing the drums...lol

  • that's bullshit, phil collins himself has said this song is about nothing at all, he just wrote it, it wasn't about anything

  • old but good song :)

  • this song is about him being on one side of a lake at night, and on the other side it took him awhile to figure out what was going on. but it was a little boy who was drowning, and a man was just watching him.

and he couldn't do anything to help.

when he figured out who the man was, he invited him to his concert of this song.

and the man realized what he was singing about-

and the part where the drumns come in,

the man was running out the concert.

  • how did he know it was the man?

  • it wasnt he sung it to the guy who ran off with his wife

  • He said himself in an interview that it's about nothing whatsoever, randomly put together.

    Entertaining little story, though.

    9_9

  • your an idiot...read the more info section on this video...

the person who wrote it doesent even know what its about so how can anyone claim its about a boy drowning...sure that may be your interpretaion of the song but it definetly is not his

  • hes quoting phil collins in the more info box maybe you should read further before you start calling people an idiot

  • Quote from Phil from the tonight show 'Did you really see someone drowning?' I said, 'No, wrong'. And then every time I go back to America the story gets Chinese whispers, it gets more and more elaborate. It's so frustrating, 'cos this is one song out of all the songs probably that I've ever written that I really don't know what it's about, you know." - Phil Collins

  • I love this song. Though creepy it's beautiful. It may be an older song, older than I am, but I still love it. It doesn't even begin to compare with the trash being made today. Most of the songs today are repetitive and sexist. But the music from other time periods is wonderfully unique. Especially the 80's.

  • in the beginning of the video he looks like the singer from queensryche

  • i love this track

  • TUNE!!!

    rock on cadbury monkey!!

  • I don't think the meaning of the song matters. It's a good song. Period.

  • After the drums come in everything picks up and it's genius!... just like the rest of the song.

  • If you listen to the song, it realy does go will with the story of people watching a person drown and doing nothing to help him. They all just stand and watch because noone knows him. It might not be true, but is still sad.

  • I think it's meant to be more..emotional drwoning, he was going through a divorce, and everything.

  • buena musica para el buen oyente espero que saque otro video musical igual que este......

  • i love this song so much!!!

  • 19.999 Bewertungen

    juhuuuu

  • i love this song :D

but for sum reason when i saw the gorrila suit with this song

its making me eat chocolate :(

  • "I don't know what this song is about. When I was writing this I was going through a divorce. And the only thing I can say about it is that it's obviously in anger. It's the angry side, or the bitter side of a separation."

    - Phil Collins

  • yea young1 we can read

  • this is perfection

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!!

  • lol i always used to play this song on the drums from 3:19 min

  • Well here is another twist to the story. I heard from a workmate who supposedly heard it on the radio. He wrote this song after seeing a guy gunned down in the street in France. He was in a taxi and could do nothing and the guy wasn't caught. He wanted to let out his feelings and also say to the guy u will go down some day.

  • i remember hearing years ago that phil collins and his band at the time were out partying. a guy drowned and no one helped because they were all to drunk. they kept it a secret what happened because they were scared that it would ruin their careers. that was why he says "i know the reasons why you keep me silenced up" because they swore to never mention it. i was always told this song was wrote as a way for him to talk about it without betraying his friends he promised to keep silent to.

  • One of the all time clasics

  • Dude Phil Collins is full of it. Listen to the lyrics. Its about a guy drowning and he didn't help him. Yeah Phil Collins says things. It's just like Pink Floyd claims Dark side of the moon album had nothing to do with the wizard of oz. Yeah everything justs happens to sink up the whole way though the movie? Right! Phil Collins is still amazing.

  • this song is so cool it will take you soooo back great song i will never forget it!

  • i bet he made billions off this on song

  • PhIl CoLlInS RuLeZzZZzZ

  • hahaha, the rumor i heard was the he saw someone watch a guy drown and didn't help him THEN he saw the guy at one of his concerts. I thought it was true...i should have known better than to listen to a pot head. ;p

  • thats the story I always heard

  • This would be perfect for Rock Band on the drums!

    Phil Collins is awesome!

  • I will always think of Miami Vice when I hear this.

  • hihi

  • What ridiculous, exclude Phil Collins from Rolling' Stone 100, what fiasco...

  • Its about a guy drowning, and he whatches and doesnt help.

He claims it was a hard time and he was going through a divorce.
