  • Okay so why is it 1 minute in the search results screen but it's 31 seconds on this screen.

  • fantastic and moving. Canadian history is definately not boring

  • go germany

  • God Bless those who served and who still serve God for goodness and freedom on earth. I played the soldier trapped out of the trenches being shot at. It was a 14 hour shoot for everything and it was the best 14 hours of my life! Thanks to Director Richard and Patrick Watson who produced it! You would not believe the comments from strangers even in Hollywood when living /visiting. I am a filmmaker And actor now (after short retirement) and that was a small dream role! Gordon King Welke xo

  • once again goes to show our canadian veterans ARE LEGENDS

  • this stupid austrians are blame for the WWI not the germans

  • @ reztupOLK austria, germany, russia, france and england are to blame

  • Thank you for putting this up! i'm related to Leo Clarke and i'm doing a project on Valour Road and I love this video! thanks! :D

  • lol me 2...doing a project on Valour Road, sadly im not related lol :P

  • lol. :)

  • 1915? and the soldiers wear steel helmets? That´s not true, the steel helmet was first introduced on both sides in spring 1916.

  • oh god this video makes me cry now. :S

  • Read the History ....

  • were the hell are the rest of there kit?

  • Is this a movie?

  • no it a part of Canadian Heritage Moment

  • The frequency of these occurances in doubt. The battle police probably arrested malingerers most of the time, rather than summarily executing them them.

  • I don't doubt that these are realistic re-enactments of the actions of those VC recipients, but I'm sceptical that an officer would plead with an enlisted man to NOT go over the top. In the First World War, it;s reputed that there were 'battle police' among the British Commonwealth forces. They'd position themselves behind the regular soldiers before an order was to be given to go over the top and charge across no-man's land. Any soldier who refused to go could be shot by the battle police.

  • still no mater what he went over the top and got a bullet in the head

  • A Canadian Heritage Moment! Thank you for posting it.

  • leo clarke also in the war saw 5 germans walking to him, than he took out his pistol and shot 4 of them and ran and chased the 5th one and captured him, than saw 3 germans, shot 2 more and captured the 3rd one. than the next day under machine gun fire he is hit and later dies of wounds.

  • thats not what happened read the description

  • you ever read for king and empire? that is very much how it happened.

  • Huh, your name is very appropriate, ultradumbass. He died of injuries sustained when a trench collapsed on him, not from machine gun fire. Nice try though, you might be able to fool a fool, but you can't bullshit a bullshitter.

  • read the books for king and empire. and then, when you do walk away nicely, without saying anything, go to your mom, seal yourself up, and devolve into a sperm to nothingness so we can imagine a life where you were never born:P

  • How's about reading a Canadian WW1 history textbook? Your reference is a book based on another book based on history. Why not go straight to the facts and read a HISTORY text? As for your attempt at an insult, well, the continuity was broken at best, and the punchline was painfully ineffective. This makes me believe that your father hate-fucked your mother while you were in utero, giving you prenatal brain damage in a failed attempt at a DIY abortion. In a perfect world, he might have succeeded.

  • wow you want to know something? my father did attempt at giving me an abortion, and he left me hanging and i nearly starved to death in childhood without child support. basically when others read it they going to think you are just some jerk. and it seems to me my counter-insult must of been a success because you took the time to actually try to insult me:P and sorry to tell you but i think i probably read more books in a week than you have in your lifetime. (1-2 books a day to be exact.)

  • My insult was a success because you couldn't think up a better one, so instead are trying to make yourself look better than me..... on the internet. I'm not trying to make myself look better than you, just letting you know that you're spreading false information. Seriously, read a REAL TEXTBOOK about the Great War, and find out what actually happened to Leo Clarke VC.

  • dude, my whole AP History class read your comment after watching this video and we couldn't stop laughing for like 2 hours..

  • which one?

  • Your second comment to ultradumbass

  • 1 or 2 books per day ultradumbass, ha?? Bugs Bunny comics aren´t books!

  • I personally believe some of these stories are over-dramatised! I am not knocking the award but I do get the feeling that many recipients do not like to see themselves portrayed in this way.

  • That's true, If you ask any veteran they will tell you, the real heroes are dead.

  • This is the best one of them all.

  • This video is from Historica, a organisation that is devoted to the canadian unity. They made a certain numbers of these commercials that we could see on TV, still today. The point is to make Canada's history look great with no dishonorable events.

  • or... it could be to highlight the weird coincidence that all these guys won medals who lived on the same street in the West End of Winnipeg.

  • So much of Canadian history acknowledges our dishonorable events. Its mostly what kids are taught in schools ex. The Japanese internment camps etc. These heritage minutes are great because Canada has done a lot of great things and should acknowledge them.

  • But Historica want us to beleive that Canadian history has a path of ONLY brave and greats events. Wich is far away from the truth. We call it propaganda.

  • Historica highlights some of the great events in Canadian history. We are already WELL AWARE of all the bad things Canada has done. Canadians need to be more aware of the GOOD things it has done as well. What bad things are you referring too? stuff thats gone on with Quebec, like how bad the federal government has been to Quebec by giving it tons of money, and allowing Quebec to screw maritime provinces out of hydro revenue?

  • Its not propaganda, have you seen the heritige minute with the CP Railway where the chinese guy is basically sent to his death? So Historica should only showcase bad parts of Canadian history? And nothing good? There are tons of films that depict the horrors of the residental schools, Japanese internment, etc. You're really brainwashed separatisse. What should these films showcase then? How is Quebec suffering. Enlighten us.

  • Propaganda can mean "to show only one side of the story".Yes,Canada did have great times during its history, but Canada did have bad times, dishonorable times, things that Canada would like to erase.Since the fragility of Canadian unity,Historica is there to help to unify the country, then they need to show good things to make us feel good about our country. Will you ever understand? Unless you're one of those Canadians afraid of Quebec's willing!!

  • But as I previously pointed out, historica did a heritage minute on one of our national shames, I.E. one dead chinese immigrant for every mile of CPR track. Yes Canada would like to erase some of its past shame, but for some reason they seem to teach the kids in school all about residential schools, Japanese internment etc. Whats wrong with Canadian unity? I have a problem with Quebecois either, they aren't separating, cause of the "Clarity Act", no more deceptive questions in referendums.

  • Ok let it go now...

Canada c'est le plusse meilleur pays

  • Alright. I just dont see what you want to leave, we like having you here.

And Canada is a liked country (My french is rusty)

  • That's a bit unfair, I think.

It's not about propaganda, necessarily; it's about educating Canadians about their history.

I will agree there's a tendancy to focus on the positive aspects of it, but I suppose the idea is to interest people by giving them something to feel proud of.

  • Aye agree what movie is that!?

    Well???

  • WHAT FREAKIN MOVIE IS THIS?

  • It's not a movie. It's a commercial from Canada that depics Canadian historical events.

  • Interesting little video, but in the description it says Roy Brown shot down the Red Baron. Its never actually been proven, and many historians think it was actually someone on the ground, thought to be either Sgt Cedric Popkin or Gunner 'Snowy' Evans of the Australian Imperial Force

  • The answer will probably never be known for sure. Eyewitnesses confirm that Brown and the Aussies on the ground made hits on Richtofen's plane, and both were certain that they had shot him down.
