  • I've always been a heartfelt fan of General Powell and I'm a democrat.

  • @jackywushengzong Colin Powell is in my opignon an very underated political figure. He can be critical but in a very diplomatic and mature way.

  • Well this is perfect, Powell was secretive about his leftist agenda so he could get his appointment, and he is supporting another man of secrets and lies...big shocker eh? You didnt think Powell, who is now bascially without a job, was gonna give the White REAL war hero a chance did you? MY belief that Blacks would be fair in this election has been shattered. Funny, cuz then IIII get called a racist for my dissapointment. Screw it, Im gonna be like everyone else. High minded ideals were a joke!

  • Powerful speech...

  • Well done, Mr. Powell.

  • anybody that wants to investigate the republican or democratic party, and wants to take America to a one party system, is a communist. They should investigate the people involved, like yourself Mr Powell, and i believe that you are to much to the liberal left, those who want to sell this count.ry to japan , china and even north Korea. I am an American, whom believes in the constitution.

Freedom is the main word in our country.

  • Powell says it all. I have lost absolutly ALL respect I ever had for McCain these last few months. Such a dishonerable and hateful campaign. He doesn't deserve the presidency. Obama does, period.

  • Fantastic summary of McCain and Obama. It's not about just being loyal to one's party (especially since Powell has backed the Bush party) but it's about this country being first. Not a viewpoint of singular but as a group. As a people. This selfishness and pride needs to stop. The world is not our (USA) oyster.

  • I am sorry Lochoc, but if you know of ONE U.S. president whose policies HAVE NOT directly or indirectly hurt some domestic or foreign population let me know. Cry for the aborted 1/3 of my generation. My first litmus test is this: If a canidate condones the killing of 500 million unborn U.S. citizens over the last 30+years, then that is enough to disqualify him for U.S. President. If the butchering of our unborn citizens isn't enough to make that choice then what is?

  • with that logic do you charge every guy who masturbates for murder? and are condoms murder as well?

  • DoubleHelixPrdctns, your name tells me you know a little about the science of human reproduction. Let me remind you that conception takes place when an egg and sperm unite. So, if you like the hand, hey who am I to stop those love taps. The use of Latex makes it less messy...no unborn child needs to be murderd and you dodge the bullet of child support !!!! I love responsible sperm donors:)

  • conception does, but does life? at the moment the sperm and egg unite life does not "suddenly begin" a fetus in the range of 0-3 months has no cognitive thought or consciousness about whereabouts, i am in NO WAY suggesting the use of abortion instead of contraceptives but if someone was raped and something that is currently just a sperm in egg in a beginning process might completely ruin their life for something they didnt choose, why let it happen?

  • Lilulay, you are right, abortion for SOME is not used as birth control. Yet, A college friend of mine is infertile due to her one botched legal abortion. Wow, what a great choice. The unwanted children you are so passionate, about have the chance to create lives of their own choosing, aborted kids don't. As for your war chant...War is for the purpose of defending life and liberty-Abortion only has one purpose...to take both life and liberty....God Bless the USA!!!

  • I see lot of passion in him, especially when he mentioned the Muslim soldier.

He could have been the first black president, unfortunately he hung out with the wrong crowd.

  • LATIN09USA the Obama website says that no matter WHAT you post, it's just general censorship just like everybody does. A TON of pro-mccain videos simply don't allow ANY comments.

  • That's because all the pro-McCain videos are stupid as hell and they don't want 5 pages of comments about how their video is indeed stupid as hell.

  • General Colin Powell is a distinguished American hero. He has known John McCain for 25 years. He is an extremely intelligent person. He is a soldier and a Republican. To all you McCain supporters out there: if you cant agree with General Colin Powell, you should be ashamed.

  • Wow u are a real Moron! Colin Powell is a Republican. U Fuckin Moron! Please don't vote! U have no sense of whats going on.

  • POWELL IS A REPUBLICAN WHO SERVED as SECRETARY OF STATE UNDER GWB FOR FIVE YEARS! WHO'S THE DUMB FUCK NOW?!?!?

  • Try posting something negative on an official Barack Obama video and you will see "Comment Approval Pending".

This indicates that Barack Obama's campaign believes in censorship, while McCain allows discussion and debate and Freedom of Speech. What is Barack Obama afraid of? Free discussion, debate and dissent? It appears so.

This also indicates the type of government Obama will run and how they will handle any type of dissent.

  • Finally. Someone who will speak the truth. Thank God for an honest, straight-forward, thought-provoking opinion that makes sense.

  • The reason why Obama confounds so many people who aren't voting for him is because he's not a croney, plus he doesn't fight the way Americans think it's good to fight. Have you ever had a fight with someone who, no matter what you did, just would not yell back? Obama is one who will not yell back. He will also confound people by his ways of doing things - considering this was how Jesus worked, it's a shame that people would not have him operate like Jesus.

  • Comparing obama to jesus...you're off your friggen nut.

  • This guy is a class act. Even if he is a life-long Republican. At least he's smart enough to vote across party lines for the best possible ticket. Obama/Biden '08!

  • Everyone should watch 'black and white on the grey matters' on my space it's great

  • See the real truth about Barack Obama, search "Barack a Hula" on youtube. See what people really think.

  • If Colin Powell had rang in with this position a year ago, or even six months ago, it would mean something to me. But the fact that he waited until two weeks before the election, when Obama was shown to be ahead in the polls only tells me that Colin Powell was looking to make himself look good by picking who he thought was going to win.

Even when he served with the Republicans, he often acted as a Liberal. So I do not view this as a personal political change, only a personal political move.

  • I too fought in Iraq. And while I didn't die, and I am not a Muslim, I thought that the country that I was fighting for was one that fought terrorists and socialism. I thought I was fighting a for a country that supported freedom of speech, that didn't suppress individuals who spoke out against presidential candidates by calling them racists. I thought I was fighting for a country that supported freedom of the press, that didn't hide facts and issues in real stories.

  • i just want to say thankssssssss from my heart for saying that nothing is wrong to being a muslim in USA.

  • His statement makes me proud to be a American, espacilly a Muslim American that has a brother currently in the US Army and another brother that also served in the Amry.Colon Powell i salute you for your words of wisdom and inclusion of all American no matter there race, religion and ideology....May ALLAH BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

  • Powell, You're an amazingly brave man to stand up and make this statement. Wise beyond his years.

  • Gen. Powell: If you can see this, as a former Marine I want to give you the only thing I can give you. I am standing on Attention and Saluting you, sir.

Thank you for doing your duty, sir.

There is no other person that I respect most in this country than you, sir.

    Thank you.

    Captain of Marines

  • amen brother,that powells alright

  • why is that brother alright now and why wasn't he before oooooohh that's right now you consider him to be black and not an uncle tom because he is going againsn't his beliefs and voting for Obama hhhmmm I wonder why?

  • Beautifully spoken by Colin Powell. John McCain has disgraced himself with his sleazy campaign and dangerous choice of VP. I'm putting my country first - and voting for Barack Obama.

  • Jerk spammer.

  • After almost 2 years of this politics I agree with Powell : It is just DUMB to vote for McCain. America for Obama. We want change.

  • Why do Republicans believe that all Democrats are for abortion? That is not true and it's getting old. Supporting a woman's legal right to choose what to do with her body does not automatically support abortion. If that is the only issue people care about, then just don't have an abortion when you get pregnant. What others do is their business. I also find it odd that "pro-lifers" are against abortion, but many support the death penalty. Pro-life? I think not.

  • "Choice" is the key word.

  • So you'd rather have Palin in office? Talk about inexperience......She can't put together a coherent complete sentence in any of her interviews. She only responsed with vague bullshit. The fact that you ignore this fact sort of justifies people to question your motives.

  • So...dreadelite you think that no one is lying on the Obama front? You buy it all hook line and sinker? I trust no one in the political game. I am just choosing for those who don't have a voice...the approximately 500 million children murdered by abortion. I am voting for the American resource that somehow only a small minority cares about.

  • softpoet No one likes abortion, so education (It seems the Palin household needs some) is key to this issue. Also, if you like to support the "voiceless", don't vote for the policies and mentality that has directly and indirectly caused the murder of millions around the world at the hands of the American government. ONLY ONE example: In the 50's we brought down a democratic gov. in Iran and installed the "Shah", a brutal dictator. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, get informed.

  • SOFTPOET: Nobody thinks in abortion as birth control. You can't have it both ways! If you don't want abortion, get into responsible sex education. Against abortion? Start signing up to adopt all those abandoned, black crack-babies and unwanted children of all races, please. Start investing your money in providing for these children once they are BORN. Also, you must be of the idea that BROWN MUSLIMS dying doesn't count as MURDER? Get a clue! War kills people already living and breathing, idiot!

  • "I am sorry but this is not the time for inexperience."

I agree, this is not the time for Sarah Palin. Have you seen her interviews? It's quite entertaining actually.

  • As you must know for the most part V.P. is a job with very little power...unless the President decides to share his power. Obama has no choice in this, as his inexperience dictates lots of hand holding. I like a canidate that can stand on his own.

  • GWB depended on advisors.

  • Obama's the right person for the job. You may not agree with Powell, but he is a credible, intelligent, legitimate source for comment. I am tired of all this joe 6 pack crap, the American people deserve an intellect for their President, unlike the last 8 years. Palin can stay home and study for a while, maybe she might understand the constitution or a supreme court decision if she gives them a good read?

  • I want a SMART president!

  • $10 TRILLION Dollar DEBT thanks to Dick, Bush, and Rummy, maybe McSAME can get it to $15 TRILLION if Selected, I mean Elected.

  • has exhibited her willingness and ability to affect change , Ob picked an aging , lifetime Senator with hairplugs and botox gone out of control , you have to be blind or idiotic to fail to see what a hypocrite Ob is , that's why it makes sense Powell ( the closet liberal ) sees eye to eye with him , they're both hypocrites . I don't care if Ob is half white and half black , i'm not falling for his used car salesman rhetoric , but go ahead and fool yourself . JV

  • To jvforever72: Oh please, don't go there about age! McCain is older than Biden. If you wanna make age an issue, it's far scarier for McCain at his age to be president, with Palin as his VP. The bottom line is Obama is the best man for the job, and his VP is highly qualified. Sarah Palin is a joke, she needs to stay on SNL that's a good place for her. Obama is the furthest thing from a hypocrite. You obviously don't have a good sense of judgement of character.

  • I love you, thank you.

  • Ob what's you're qualifications , the ones you say Palin , who isn't even running for Pres , doesn't have , 4 years in the Senate , a trip to Europe , a refined 70s radical oratory delivery , LOL , what fools are going to vote for this lightweight . Change , he hasn't changed anything in all his years in politics , he's playing people for fools . Palin has , but she's a white woman , it would be " racist " to vote for her and not Ob . Mac took a chance with a rising , dynamic woman who ....

  • How much of the black vote does Ob have now , somewhere in the 90 percent plus range , how much of the " white " vote does he have , about 50 percent , who the hell is racist now , the blacks who are voting Ob , and Powell is one of them , yes , Powell has shown his true colors , he chose to go with the inexperienced candidate simply because if his skin color , and then comes up with some nonsensical reasons why , he's pathetic . This is quotas on a national level . JV

  • Those percentages you are quoting are not about race, it's about smart and dumb. Thank God there's more smart people out there then dumb. I would vote for Obama if he were green. Don't you get it. People like him because of what he represents. You just gotta try and make it a race issue. That says a lot about you! PLAIN AND SIMPLE HE IS THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB!!!!!!!

  • "Who are YOU going to vote for?"

  • both obama and mccain are terrible.. poor americans..

  • Mccain is inconsistant, Obama is CONSISTENT

Mccain is erratic, Obama is STEADY

    Mccain panics, Obama is CALM

Mccain is incoherent, Obama is CLEAR

Mccain is divisive, Obama is a UNITER

Mccain for rich only, Obama for middle class/all

Mccain wants war, Obama wants PEACE

Mccain is fear, Obama is INSPIRATION

Mccain IQ low, Obama IQ is high.

mccain senator ok, Obama President ok.

  • If you think Colin Powell endorsed Obama because he is black...you didn't listen to why he endorsed him.

  • Looks like Powell is another politician caught in the net of "change". Obama has such great "style". Makes me wonder why Bush ever chose this man who went from challenging the UN to supporting a canidate that would look to a decaying Europe for advice. If you endorse the biggest liberal of all liberals, you are not a Republican. He better change his party.

  • "Style AND substance", Powell said. And integrity. Google integrity, if you're too young to grasp this concept.

  • A great guy with great integrity, Powell. I only wish every politician had the guts to criticise his own party when called for. The comments on colour are inane and disgusting. I (a 'white' European) regard both Powell and Obama as highly intelligent men of substance. Powell's endorsement og Obama is a great intellectual and moral statement and has nothing to do with 'race'. As a European I can only hope that Obama succeeds to bring the change so needed in the USA.

  • thanks for supporting Obama... go miinority!

  • Can we all just stop with the whole color thing? It's getting kind of old.

  • GOODPOOR, comments like that are exactly how divisive lines are formed, don't be stupid and ignorant. Don't forget, Obama was raised by his white Mother.

Oh and it's not "only black people has a good judgment", I think what your ignorant statement meant to say was "only black people have good judgment". So who's the stupid one here?

Btw, no "e" in judgEment, it's judgment.

But please, don't spew this kind of idiocy and ignorance around.

  • in British english, Judgement..with "e"

  • English, and that's fine then.

But your structure was still horrible and your idiocy still spews in what you said.

Guys like you make me want to vote for McCain, making stupid comments like that.

I really do like Obama, but after what you said, to spite you, I would gladly vote for McCain.

  • also,...you can use "has" if you want to...it is a singular collective noun(originally) "people"

  • I'm done arguing with an ignorant racist.

Thanks for making me reconsider my vote. :)

  • please don't because of some idiots on youtube!!! :(

    its important

  • dont they just give you a headache? ignorant racist bastard.you must be blue in the face.you know how this vote going to base on,especally with these nuts.we will see how racist this country is come election day

  • Do you understand how ignorant and damaging your comments are. Obama would be ashamed of your comments.

  • Powell is an asshole, Obama is an asshole and McCain is an asshole. Fuck anyone who supports this corrupt 2 party system.

  • Hes black so this is expected, black people vote for dems in blocks. This is not racist its just a fact.

  • it is racist you stupid f*ck. powell is a republican.

  • so powell is all of a sudden "a black man" and not one of george bush's most trusted cabinet members in his first term? by reducing powell to "being black and voting black" you're completely disregarding his experience, intellect and place in american politics.

    what would you call that?

  • Well its the truth African Americans vote for Dems in blocks. Name one election since 1970 where African Americans give a majority vote to a Republican. You know what if you find one president then I will accpect your term "racist" your little label for the facts. A lot of people sadly are to dumb to know better and vote because of race sadly. Collin Powell is a good and decent man but im sure race plays some part in this.

  • this is not "african americans" voting for a dem. this singular man, colin powell, is a long time conservative republican. by your logic, i should expect him to start rapping too, because statistically speaking, african-americans dominate the hip hop scene. looking at the overall voting pattern, you're correct, but calling powell's vote a "black for black vote" lessens him.

  • well it all started with barry goldwater and his southern strategy. he supported segregationists and states righters, on the premise that states should have greater say than the federal govt. if they weren't truly racist and both goldwater and his predecessor mc cain than who is?!

  • It was Nixon's southern strategy. Goldwater came around in his later years & had no use for McCain. Neither did the Reagans after the way he treated Carole.

  • In addition to thanking Colin Powell for this beautiful and intelligent endorsement, I would like to thank Meet the Press for giving a forum for such a statement when the majority of the press in this country has limited its coverage and its question and response segments to sound bytes, three sentences maximum per answer but optimally, half a sentence to get the gist.

  • Thank you, Colin Powell.

  • trust me asshole...the only duplicate empty accounts i see come from the McCain camp...like yours!

judging from your statment you are so dillusional and you have drunk so much kool-aid that you would follow McCunt off a cliff.

and you fail to accept that your world views are of the past and the vision of tomorrow is far brighter under OBama...which is why he has a bigger following (and that just eats you up inside)

    ;)

  • The use of profanity and generally negative tone of your posting does little to advance the type of dialogue that we must engage in to move forward as thoughtful people.

As a fellow Obama supporter, I believe that it is critical that we follow Barack's lead and rise above the negativity of the McCain/Palin campaign.

  • I would'nt trust anyone who says they know how to deal with the Forclosure Issue in this Country That don't know how many Houses He Himself Has!

  • Yeah Obama!

  • God Bless Colin Powell.

    God Bless America!

    Stop the hate and fear.

    Vote Obama '08!!!!

  • Why doesn't POWELL talk about how both candidates are controled by the CFR and the fact under court order OBAMA won't show his birth certificate to the judge? Search YOUTUBE for OBAMA birth certificate. Also why no one talks about how McCain for many years blocked the families of POW's apeals to search for them in Vietnam. Not to mention Vietnam Vets and POW's against John McCain they have their own website. These guys are nothing more then NWO puppets. Vote 3rd party or its DOOM on you.

  • This man is a true American and a reasonable man. He spoke truth today.

  • Too bad he went to bed with the criminals in the Bush white house and lied about Iraq. He could have been the one about to win the presidency.

  • The same dumbocraps who are now falling head over heels in an attempt to kiss Powell's backside, are the same hypocritical whinners who called Powell an "Uncle Tom" for being a Republican, and the spewing and vitriol reaching an all time high when Powell made his powerpoint presentation at the UN. If Powerll had backed McCain, demonocrats would have been whinning about Powell's integrity, judgement etc. And yes btw a former democrat VP candidate, endorsed the McCain-Palin ticket.

  • Powell spoke the truth today!!! Wow. Be still my heart. I never thought about some of things he's mentioned, but he laid it out so clearly that I listened and thought "THAT'S RIGHT!!"

I am tired of the hate, prejudice, religious bigotry and all around divisive rhetoric. Just tired of it.

At Obama rallies, I see White, Black, Latino, young and old....and these people are HAPPY! I cannot say the same for McCain's rallies or Palin's especially.

    Obama/Biden 08!

  • POWELL should talk about how both candidates are controled by the CFR and the fact under court order OBAMA won't show his birth certificate to the judge? Search YOUTUBE for OBAMA birth certificate. Also why no one talks about how McCain for many years blocked the families of POW's apeals to search for them in Vietnam. Not to mention Vietnam Vets and POW's against John McCain they have their own website. These guys are nothing more then NWO puppets. Vote 3rd party of its DOOM on you.

  • too funny

  • *round of applause*

    RIGHT ON.

    Right FUCKING on man!!!!!!!

    AMEN.

  • How's that WMD search coming along, Colin?

  • Like the mustard and syrian gas they found in Iraq... If you don't believe me google it... But you probably saw it in the left wing media... oh wait maybe not...

  • Powell get ready to be attacked by Rush the drug addict limbaugh for speaking the truth!!

  • I agree with every word Powell said! To the GOP: How could you allow McCain to fool you! Do you really believe Palin is the very best person in the entire country to be VP. Come on! He is playin politics & putting his campaign first! McCain is so busy talking about Obama & twisting the truth of Obama plans & is not telling you his specific plans or his real agenda of making sure his & his friends wealth remains: "Let the rich keep getting RICH! & Forget about all others!" Tell the truth GOP!

  • JV, you are as smart as Palin

  • To me that's a compliment , she has accomplished so much in her 44 or so years that it's inspiring to know that someone can have a life like hers . You run for governor of a state and see how far you get , then we'll see how dumb you think she is .

Make it a small one that is really just a suburb , like Delaware , i bet you don't even get on the ballot . JV

  • jvforever72, running for governor in a state that has a population less than Chicago would be easy!!! Voter turnout in Alaska is less then 20%!!! Sarah Palin doesn't stand a chance at becoming our president!!! The bitch is CRAZY!!!!

  • I acknowledge that I do not have the ability to be vice-president, someone should inform the parrot Palin and YOU that she is equally unqualified....that won't happen though...you would support a cardboard cut-out as long as it was a republican

  • Isn't it funny how YOU YOURSELF had to clarify that being as Smart as Palin was a compliment....enough said!

  • Kadar, I'm starting to believe that all of the supposed republicans who argue with you are substance abusers! Something must be wrong with them! Colin Powell isn't the first republican to say McCain's an asshole! A true republican is born wealthy not these idiots who argue with you while drinking PBR's!!!

  • Powell your a clown now . This is the guy that pushed for the war , then when it started to go sour , he left his post and blamed everyone else . He thinks Mac is using attack ads , why is questioning someone's association's considered attacking ?

Uh , Powell , you've must have been taking prozac , do you really think Ob is ready to be president , man i'm glad this guy has nothing to do with military strategy anymore .This guy was never a Rep , he was a closet socialist exposing himself now.JV

  • McCain would be a bigger socialist because he wants to expand the federal government in terms of the welfare state AND the warfare state, while Obama just wants to expand the welfare part.

  • "jvforever72" I totally agree with you, this man was always a lefty, he admits it now. He doesn't talk like a conservative at all, he doesn't mind to have a Muslim representing our nation, when everyone knows that the radical Muslims want our destruction. Obama is dangerous for our country though some people do not see it that way. I will vote for McCAIN & PALIN, two great candidates, an excellent choice to our nation. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

  • yikes

  • are you retarted? u just said that "radical" muslims want our destructions. does that mean that regula muslims do? "radical" christians wants to kill everybody that is not christian as well. u can't judge a group based on its radicals, they are called radical for reason the emphasize that they take their beliefs too seriously.

  • its one thing to attack someone based on his associations. but its one thing to twist the truth or tell the half truth to imply something that isn't true. when using the same tactic one can imply that mcain and palin are racist because they were racist people at their rally's. obviously that is false and when someone made such a claim, mcain said himself that he was offended/hurt

i was going to get into they hypocrasy of christian republican claiming socialism is bad but i don't have enough s

  • Awesome human being, I agree with every word!

  • Did you listen to the commentator? Powell contributed to McCain's campaign on two different occassions. It is obvious that he was prepared to support his party's candidate.

McCain and camp lost this endorsement using dirty politics to gain support.

Conservatives Endorse Obama! Conservatives for the Truth

    Pro-Life, Pro-Truth, Pro-Moral

    Obama/Biden 2008!

  • when you see republicans turning on on their own party that tells you thier game ain't about nothing

  • Wow. Did he lay that out or what. Superb oratory, absolutley superb. The GOP should really listen to Powell's words because they have seriously polarized many Americans and suggested that if are not part of their congregation then you are not a true American. Powell seems sincere in his distaste for the GOP's incessant racial overtones, and rightly so. I know you Republicans want to slam anyone who opposes your party, but do any of you care about ALL Americans? It certainly doesn't seem so.

  • I agree, he really rationalized the direction the campaign has taken for the republicans. With so much going on all the time in the media, this level-headed speech really expressed the needs of American and world politics. Powell really surprised me, he was eloquent and powerful in the way he explained his choice.

  • What a great, wise man!

  • If he's such a wise man, how come he says nothing about the Federal Reserve, and the FACT paper is not money and is not to be used in the United States for money.

He's in on the scam just like the rest of them. Didn't he lie in the UN about weapons of mass destruction.

Only a hamster would hold what this man says in high regard.

  • the doallar is not money?

  • When paper is not backed by any "hard" asset like gold or silver its monopoly money, because the government can print as much as they want. This is a direct cause of inflation.

M3 the most basic money stat has not been reported by the US government since 2006, because its too scary. My opinion, the dollar will go to 0 trade value, and there's no gold or silver readily available to hedge against inflation. The masses are truly fcked.

  • He's right, we are all AMERICANS, regardless of our race or religion.

  • One of the smartest men in America.

  • brilliant point of view.

  • Powell Ba-rocked this endorsement !!!

  • What a man! Inspirational, center-minded and REPUBLICAN! I'm sure of it and he is particularly sad of the (extreme) right shift of the Republican party. He would have wished McCain had made a great and honest campaign to endorse him... it was not the case, he is endorsing Obama.

    Obam/Biden that's SO obvious

  • Very impressed with this real American hero Powell. I wished this man was running for President and I respect his decisions more than any other Democrat or Republican. Before the campaign every Republican said they would vote for this guy over Obama or Mc Cain so follow your choices decision. He asks you as a real American soldier and hero vote for your country. Vote for America. Vote Obama!

  • you're right about my voting for Gen. Powell. I still can't vote for Obama unless he were to change a couple of his policies. I think he's dangerous. We really need to be careful here.

  • McHate / APPalin are history!!

  • Wonderful and eloquently said.

I especially liked the information about "American Muslims" - serving *us*.!! I hope it gets played all over the media. Muslims fighting for "our" country, needs to get out there!

Thank-you Colin Powell, I agree with everything!

  • My eyes watered when he spoke of the muslim American soldier.

  • Fantastic endorsement. Thank you, Mr. Powell. It's very brave and strong of him to speak out against the recent negative smear attacks of the McCain campaign, as well as the ugly anti-Muslim sentiment going on in this country.

  • "Well the correct answer is he's a Christian, he's not a Muslim, he's always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, so what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country. The answer is no."

About time someone finally came out and said it.

  • nocoma

As I see it this endorsement has 2 effects:

    1. It repudiates the McCain campaign's strategy of linking Obama to Ayres and similar nonsense.

    2. It is a message to the neocons that their intolerant, narrow-minded views have failed America, and that America is ready to move away from them.

And you are right - it is about time someone of stature had the courage to say it. It is a clear (and LONG overdue) slap in the face to Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the fascists.

  • republicans.... this is an honest opinion....

  • Wow!! That's all I can say is... Wow! That was the most eloquent, informed and thoughtful endorsement I have EVER heard.... WOW!! Now, we sit and wait to hear from all the conservatives and rednecks who are going to attempt to discredit Republican General Colin Powell...

  • I love how democrats are supposed to be the party for the poor and the middle class. But, then someone speaks against them and they must be rednecks, low class, uneducated. Sounds a little bit like a double standard. I have a lot of respect for Gen. Powell. I also respect his decision. I however, will not vote for Obama based on his policies.

  • The conjunction I chose to use was "and" I did not use "or." If I had used "or" then your point would have been valid. When "and" is used it is not to say that what precedes the conjunction and what follows it is synonymous. If I wanted to say conservatives are the same as rednecks, I would not have had a problem stating it in a VERY VERY clear way. I am bold and outspoken. In fact, I would have said it in a very belittling and condescending way.

  • Furthermore, I've lived in rural MS as an AmeriCorps member (thought I'd get some points with that, lol) and I have met real life rednecks. Trust me, I know conservatives and rednecks are not the same type of person... but they do have some eerie similarities (smile). Both groups tend to think that their way of understanding the world is the right and only way to see the world. Both groups do not and cannot acknowledge their ethnocentrism and limitations.

I agree that it was a fantastic endorsemenet, especially the last part where he mentioned the fallen Muslim-American soldier. You might also be interested in the endorsement by Christopher Buckley, son of the late great William F. Buckley Jr.

These endorsements show that the intolerance that is the centerpeice of the current Republican party is finally being challenged publicly by those within.

  • McSame has Joe the Plumber as his chief economic adviser and Sarah Palin as his foreign relations expert!

What do you expect from someone who graduated at the bottom of his class and voted Dummy Bush, 90% of the time!

He's a freakin dummy! Get rid of this bum now. He needs to retire before all his dignity is gone.

Powell knows Palin is a freakin dummy!

  • Thank you Gen. Powell. I respect your decision and you as a man. It seems that you've taken the time to decide for yourself and you're not listening to the left wing media or the right. I applaud you for that. I still believe that Mr. Obama has too many flaws to run this country. Looking back over previous presidential policies, there isn't one who raised business taxes without raising the unemployment rate. We need jobs in this country not more government. I will vote Mccain in November.

  • Very, very well said!!! I do not agree with everything Colin Powell has done in his career but I cannot deny that he is a Statesman of the "Old School" style. We desperately need Wise Statesman in order to effectively meet the very difficutlt challanges of the future. Hopefully, Mr. Obama can help us to leave our petty disagreements behind. Oh, by the way - Mr. Obama is hardly a Socialist, he is a "Hard Core" Capitalist or he would not have gotten the financial backing he did to campaign!

  • Of course CP endorses Obama, all intellectuals do!!!

  • Wow.

Talk about making the case for a presidential nominee. This is probably the the most comprehensive and eloquent endorsement display we have seen in years.

  • Intellectuals like Obama and Powell can recreate the international respect for the US administration.

We Europeans know that thanks to big sacrifices by the US during WW II we are not governed from Berlin or Moscow today. (At least most of us)

Pray that we never will have to see someone like Palin representing the worlds most powerful nation.

Having Putin in the Kremlin is scary enough!

You need people in the White House with integrity and respect for humans all over the world.

"A Republican citing the Constitution after the Patriot Act, FISA, torture, warrantless wiretapping, lying to Congress, refusing subpeaonas, VP a 4th branch of gov't? BTW, McCain was born in Panama and at the time we had no military bases there. Hile Hitler Konig (which is German for king. How white supremaist of you"

I'm a Libertarian. Adherence to the Constitution is what we are all about--unlike the Commie Obama.

Do you even know who Ariovistus was?

  • Doesn't or didn't Obama teach the Constitution at the University of Chicago? I had been very impressed by that and it has certainly been a factor for me in my choice for him as President.

  • If Powell had endorsed McCain... but, actually, he didn't. He endorsed Obama. History is not made of "if"

  • OBAMA/BIDEN 08!

  • Right on Colin Powell. Wish he was running. Wow.

  • Very well said. I hope this inspires more people to really take a look at the issues and not just vote based on party lines.

    Obama 08

  • Especially those people in the Howard Stern Harlem video.

They need to look at the issues.

I prefer free market capitalism over socialism, so Obama will not get my vote.

  • KonigAriovistus,

I respect your opinion, as I'm a Libertarian who supported and voted for Ron Paul. But when you look at Obama, true - he wants to increase the *welfare* state, but McCain wants to also increase the *welfare* state, AND the *warfare* state.

Therefore, Obama is the better candidate. Again, I agree with you, but you should seriously reconsider not voting for Barack.

  • Thank you, Colin Powell. You are truly a great American.

    "AMERICANS DESERVE BETTER!!!

We need a president who represents ALL AMERICANS - not just a small slice of the pie."

Sorry Teriyaki07, but Obama and his communist "spread the wealth", Obama truth squad, National Civilian Defense force, etc. ideas does not represent me.

Classical Liberalism, which is individual liberty WITHOUT bid daddy gubment is what I'm about. And Obama, a hard core statist, is the exact opposite of that. He will not bring people together.

  • KonigAriovistus on Obama: "He will not bring people together."

    He already has.

  • Yeap. In the Obama Office where I volunteer, we are Republicans, Dems, and Independents, young and old, male and female, white, black, and Asian. It is amazing to me to see so many people from so many walks of life coming together for this country's future.

  • queue the right wing nuts attacks on one of their own.

  • Colin Powell is the last voice of reason in the Republican party. One who really puts country first.

  • Good fellow , you say this but obviously you are not a conservative... as powell has been out of the loop for some time as he has proven himself left of center, this just puts the nail in the lid.

  • If you supported Bush/Cheney to help turn the Republican party into a welfare organization for corporate and wall street fat cats you have lost any right whatsoever to define what conservatism is long ago.
