If Colin Powell had rang in with this position a year ago, or even six months ago, it would mean something to me. The conjunction I chose to use was "and" I did not use "or." If I had used "or" then your point would have been valid. When "and" is used it is not to say that what precedes the conjunction and what follows it is synonymous. If Colin Powell had rang in with this position a year ago, or even six months ago, it would mean something to me. But the fact that he waited until two weeks before the election, when Obama was shown to be ahead in the polls only tells me that Colin Powell was looking to make himself look good by picking who he thought was going to win.
Even when he served with the Republicans, he often acted as a Liberal. So I do not view this as a personal political change, only a personal political move.

Supporting a woman's legal right to choose what to do with her body does not automatically support abortion. If that is the only issue people care about, then just don't have an abortion when you get pregnant. What others do is their business. Did you listen to the commentator? Powell contributed to McCain's campaign on two different occassions. It is obvious that he was prepared to support his party's candidate.
McCain and camp lost this endorsement using dirty politics to gain support.

Wow. Did he lay that out or what. Superb oratory, absolutley superb. The GOP should really listen to Powell's words because they have seriously polarized many Americans and suggested that if are not part of their congregation then you are not a true American. Powell seems sincere in his distaste for the GOP's incessant racial overtones, and rightly so. I know you Republicans want to slam anyone who opposes your party, but do any of you care about ALL Americans? It certainly doesn't seem so.

I agree, he really rationalized the direction the campaign has taken for the republicans. With so much going on all the time in the media, this level-headed speech really expressed the needs of American and world politics. Powell really surprised me, he was eloquent and powerful in the way he explained his choice.

When paper is not backed by any "hard" asset like gold or silver its monopoly money, because the government can print as much as they want. This is a direct cause of inflation.
M3 the most basic money stat has not been reported by the US government since 2006, because its too scary. My opinion, the dollar will go to 0 trade value, and there's no gold or silver readily available to hedge against inflation. The masses are truly fcked.

Before the campaign every Republican said they would vote for this guy over Obama or Mc Cain so follow your choices decision. He asks you as a real American soldier and hero vote for your country. As I see it this endorsement has 2 effects:
1. It repudiates the McCain campaign's strategy of linking Obama to Ayres and similar nonsense.
2. It is a message to the neocons that their intolerant, narrow-minded views have failed America, and that America is ready to move away from them.
And you are right - it is about time someone of stature had the courage to say it. It is a clear (and LONG overdue) slap in the face to Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the fascists.

I love how democrats are supposed to be the party for the poor and the middle class. But, then someone speaks against them and they must be rednecks, low class, uneducated. The conjunction I chose to use was "and" I did not use "or." If I had used "or" then your point would have been valid. When "and" is used it is not to say that what precedes the conjunction and what follows it is synonymous. If I wanted to say conservatives are the same as rednecks, I would not have had a problem stating it in a VERY VERY clear way. I am bold and outspoken. In fact, I would have said it in a very belittling and condescending way.

Furthermore, I've lived in rural MS as an AmeriCorps member (thought I'd get some points with that, lol) and I have met real life rednecks. Trust me, I know conservatives and rednecks are not the same type of person... but they do have some eerie similarities (smile). Both groups tend to think that their way of understanding the world is the right and only way to see the world. Both groups do not and cannot acknowledge their ethnocentrism and limitations.

Thank you Gen. Powell. I respect your decision and you as a man. It seems that you've taken the time to decide for yourself and you're not listening to the left wing media or the right. I applaud you for that. I still believe that Mr. Obama has too many flaws to run this country. Looking back over previous presidential policies, there isn't one who raised business taxes without raising the unemployment rate. We need jobs in this country not more government. I will vote Mccain in November.

Very, very well said!!! I do not agree with everything Colin Powell has done in his career but I cannot deny that he is a Statesman of the "Old School" style. We desperately need Wise Statesman in order to effectively meet the very difficutlt challanges of the future. Hopefully, Mr. Obama can help us to leave our petty disagreements behind. Oh, by the way - Mr. Obama is hardly a Socialist, he is a "Hard Core" Capitalist or he would not have gotten the financial backing he did to campaign!

Intellectuals like Obama and Powell can recreate the international respect for the US administration.
We Europeans know that thanks to big sacrifices by the US during WW II we are not governed from Berlin or Moscow today. (At least most of us)
