i've been studying acoustics for over a year now and the first reflection does not come from the side walls... those are second reflections... first wave of sound reflection is always coming from the nearest wall close to the speakers cause sound travels a smaller distance and then bounches off first from the nearest wall. which in almost every case it's the wall behind the speakers.. the man here made a terrible mistake since in the left speaker there is a curtain!! Fail acoustic treatment vid
@DrewLowryProductions apart that what i said is writen in acoustics books, there's also common sense... first reflection is the one that is coming from the nearest wall since sound travels less distance so we hear it first bouncing of from the nearest wall...
@rivkamord Pay closer attention when watching a TV show like Mythbusters. Putting a neutral-looking decal over things like the Apple logo is a common practice to prevent the appearance of product placement. The series of videos is produced by RODE, and they aren't out to market a competitor's product. In the case of the monitors, RODE now owns Event, so they market the Event 20/20 and OPAL monitors.
These videos are good, but after watching a few there isn't much more being taught. He seems to do the same things every episode. Although i must admit the 'mirror trick' will never be forgotten lol
I have a not far off square room. 1 Wall is 10ft 5 the other wall is 12ft 5. the wall thats 10ft 5 has a door on it. The other 10ft 5 wall opposite has 2 small windows. The 12ft 5 wall has 1 Radiator and the 1 opposite that has Nothing. Where should i setup my stuff. My desk is 6ft in length. If i put it on the 10ft 5" wall that leaves me room for roughly 2ft either side and overlaps the door. I can however put the door on the outside instead of it being inside.
@rodemicrophones I found it, and found a Norwegian store that sells their products. They had a nice pack with 4 Mega Fusor Bass Traps and 8 Pulsar absorption Panels. Will this work for a room about 290x340 cm in size?
it's a good show...but it's getting predictable at this stage...i hope to see something new in the next episodes...perhaps toning down the "hard sell" re rode mic would be fine. thanks, anyway, for sharing basic lessons. why not include VOCAL recording & MXING/MASTERING tricks, too?

@zampination Yup, the Grammy award winning engineer should've listened to the guy with one year of studying acoustics.

Wow, francis just walks into the room, and the guy just happens to have a lapel mic on already! How convenient!

Is it not better for the acqoustics to place the krk's on standards away from the desk? And minimal 1mtr away from the bag wall?
MrMartinmill 1 month ago
what if you have a window at the angle of first reflection, what do you do then?

See that? Looks like they stuck tape over the KRK and Rokit logos so as not to advertise the monitors ...
Also those bass traps look a little wimpy.
But those fellas are certainly very generous with their giveaways!!

Small question.
What if a speaker has bass reflex holes on the front like for example in
Focal cms or Event 20/20BAS so where the acoustic panels are placed?
Behind the person?
Eumusic1 10 months ago
I try googling (I suck at it), and can't find those panels.. Vaicoustics? Waicoustics?

@SpeedFreakNO It's spelled Vicoustic - you should be able to find the site on Google.

@SpeedFreakNO Sounds good, but try the Vicoustics Simulator to be sure - it's available on their site.

@boyetcastillo isnt it made by "Rode" so its just a long advert

@alexxj220 you're right...and a "good" advert should be subtle :D
