  • Imagine how many years and hard work dedicated to playing the tambourine. Damn Steve, you've impressed me again!

  • WE NEED MORE COWBELL!

  • that is a fuck load of VU meters

  • Work that tambourine! :o)

  • You would think the first four beats were good enough, and they could just loop it from there.

  • What terrible tambourine technique! :) You are ruining my middle school percussion students' ability to play the instrument correctly.

  • I wanna audition for John as tambourine player xDDD

  • I'm sure Steve got the hood pass after this!

  • mmmm NS10's : )

  • Now noone can deny that black guys have so much rhythm

  • haha cool vid - I play tambourine too (well percussion) for concert band.

This is my favourite song off battle studies, can't wait until you visit Sydney - I'll be in row N, section 27nowhere near the front but it'll do :)

  • Man, what a studio. I would love to play there

  • I just love watching these videos now that I've listened to the whole cd. My Battle Studies..:)

  • Cool...I just say John on the late show last night and will be seeing him Feb 6th...Jacksonville Fla. My wife's Birthday present...

  • @Woutertron His dancing is amazing, the JMT are the funniest group :)

  • They could have just as easily MIDI'ed in a tambourine, or some maracas, or a llama, but Mr. Jordan got in there and did it by hand. THAT'S DEDICATION, FOLKS! This nation was built by the kind of men who are not afraid to play their own tambourine. What a hero.

I hope the track credits him for his dancing as well.

  • Is this in avatar studios NYC?

  • @JopPeters no, it's in his house.

  • @gimicoffee83 Yes, I would also like to know who this "Sap" that you think is a showoff?

  • you can tell steve is all about music. not like that other sap who is all show off.

  • @gimicoffee83 who would be the sap you mention?

  • JJ Johnson

  • The guitar and vocal over dubs towards the end are very Eric Clapton, ala Derick and the doms, George Harrison-esque.

    NICE!!!

  • John Mayer is the best. just bought tickets to see him in MSG on feb. 26th, can't wait.

  • hahah, oh steve

  • hahaha this is freakin' hilarious.

    I love steve.

  • this album is released today!!!!!! :D!!!!! i need to get it!

  • That's great. Listen, it really could use a little more tambourine. And really explore the studio space this time.

  • Christopher Walkin kicks ass !

  • That part of the song is simply beautiful =]

  • Hey John, have you heard Jimmy Hendricks' cover of your song "Bold As Love"? It's not as good, but hey, who can be as good as you!!!

  • dude, John Mayer did the cover for ' Bold as Love', Hendricks was around for a long time b4 John came up

  • hendrix is with an x!

  • wow,you must be joking??? do some research before you go say something as stupid as that. hope mayer doesn't actually get to read this shit

  • did you serious not think fairandsaintclair was joking? like really, nobody would actually believe a dead musician from the 60's did a cover of a current musician. it was obviously just a great praise of john's abilities as a musician.

  • Jimi Hendrix (Is how it's spelled) And everyone knows Jimi is a big influence on John's Style because SRV idolized Jimi and John Idolizes SRV. But John did a great cover of "Bold As Love"

  • lol Bold As Love was originally written by Jimmy Hendrix, how could a dead performer do a cover of a song which was released after he died?

  • Dumbfuck. Jimi Hendrix died in 1969. "Bold As Love" was written by Jimi. John covered it 36 years later. I say again: dumbfuck.

  • Actually Hendrix died in 1970 (unless that's a ghost in Jimi plays Berkeley lol), and I'm pretty sure that person was kidding. People really love excuses to blow up huh. By the way, the actual video over which we are posting has a good song.

  • 1970. look it up

  • the guitar kind of reminds me of clapton in bellbottom blues

  • i can't waaaiiit

  • this song reminds me of another song.. hmm ..

  • Daniel powter - free loop!!

  • same chords as "the hurt"...

  • wow i never realized that, you're right

  • man that is just an amazing tambourine solo.... I'm blown away... he can make anything look easy.... unbelievable.

  • He's even dancing at the same time!

    ;)

  • This sounds like John Mayers "Be Here Now", fantastic! :D

  • what?

  • @chafer: "Be Here Now" in reference to the glorious, massive, overblown and inspiring album by Oasis;:: its a term used to describe any song/album that sounds massive, true to the person and ever so slightly self endulgent. Here the reference is particularly noteable as - many have commented on the live video for this song - the melody is similar to the track on Be Here Now called "All Around The World".

And thats complete compliment. I love it.

  • well said....noel gallagher= genius/legend

  • Flippin Amazing, but the repetition of a minute could make the song lose its freshness quicker than normal

  • from what i've heard, sounds like this is gonna be my fave on the album. i heard crossroads is on it. if that's true i think i'm most excited to hear that

  • its probably a fade out

  • yea not much bealtles...more blues and soul.

  • Beatles? I really don't see anything remotely Beatles about it. More like a B.B King and Buddy Guy vibe

  • Very Beatles

    cool

  • I know where youre coming from. i hear some happy mccartney vibes mixed with some bluesy stuff as well

  • watt

  • John Mayer is one of those artist that reputation speaks for itself. He always wins me with the blues and gets the woman with his soft soul.

  • That song sounds AMAZING. :]

  • keep rockin that tambo

  • I can't wait for this album.. I'm going through rough times and I know this will be the thing to help me get back on my feet.. I love this man

  • you are the fuckin man john

  • new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!! new new vid vid please please!!!!

  • Some Beatles vibe it is preceived there... Is it possible that, as the last album went to classic r&b, soul and blues, the new one will come in that way? It would be great!

  • BRIT POP XD

  • Download or go listen to "All things must pass" by George Harrison... you can get where JM says it's inspired by...

  • pff november 17th seems so far away still!

  • It doens't seem so. It is far away!

  • I knew there was a reason Jordan is one of my favorite drummers.... Tambourine on 2 and 4..

    So much depth....lol

  • simplicity is not stupidity ;)

  • its on the 3...

  • Yeah dude it's on the 3 if you enjoy playing everything at above 160bpm.......

Steve Jordan would say 2 and 4.... and so do I....

Besides you're a guitar player.... play a solo and leave the groove to me......... lol

  • sweet new track bra

  • JOHN! I'm so excited! The wait is killing me! But man, the tiny morsels you've given us sounds sweeeeeet so far.

  • JM this is the SINGLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • more john more!!!!!! more videos please!

  • another grammy in the making...i can see this being a serious jam on stage...my goodness this song is greatness...keep the soul up John

  • The guitar part sounds Claptonesque...very moving and melodic

  • that would be awsome if you posted another video. these videos are gold. keep em comin? thank you fr the music john.

  • i love you john mayer!!!!!! I can't waiiiiiit lol

  • Comment removed

  • Just for the record...John Mayer's renditions to any song from any other artist are BETTER and even more refined. Ok, I'm done. :)

  • rrrggggg more more more

  • There's soooooo much more I can say to you Mr. Irrelevant. But let's just leave it in the hands of charm. I'm off to sift the sandboxes in case irrelevant people left their broken beer bottles behind. I like to walk barefoot, but that's irrelevant.

  • Haters should just go away.

  • Beatles tribute?

  • this song sounds AMAZING!!

  • definitely overproduced. dare I say to perfection? without a doubt the most talented musician of this generation.

  • Where u at ?

  • The Steve Jordan Tambourine Dance.

  • I don't know why, but it had a Beatles feel to it.

  • Very George Harrison.

  • LOL

  • can't wait... loving it!!!

  • cool

  • Love the Gospel influences... I am getting this album...

  • i can't wait for the new album!

  • Genius!

  • I agree. The only thing that i have from him is the Where the light is DVD

  • when you'll release the album?

  • november 7th

  • hell yeah

  • sounds overproduced man.

  • Needs more cowbell!

  • .lol

  • I like this ending better than "In Repair" as an end of concert sing along

  • i like it , John McCartney

  • You know what John.... I may actually buy your next album.

  • where's the dam tambourine solo!!! I'm not leaving till I hear it!!

  • Water Bird Whistles would sound cool in this song....

  • so true! almost too true... 'anything other than yes is no, anything other than stay is go, anything other than i love you is, lying.' love it!

  • OMG I cant wait to hear more I WANT BATTLE STUDIES NOW

  • you can't compare anyone to the beatles or Dylan because if they popped up today doing the same sound they had then it wouldn't really do anything because everyone wants to hear BS now, just look at the top 10 on itunes... rarely anything great on that... but in my opinion, mayer is the best all around artist to emerge in the 00's hands down... great lyrics, melody, and guitar skills... not always my favorite, but always an inspiration...

  • Okay. I have never seen people compare John Mayer to the Beatles or Bob Dylan, but RIGHT when he starts using some tambourine he becomes like them? haha

  • mnyess and he is like elvis for using a guitar ;) and like johnny cash for singing and playing guitar hahhaha

  • I'm sorry, is that man a professional tambourine player? Amazing. How much do you think he gets per hour?

  • Steve Jordan is John Mayer's drummer.

  • lol thats steve jordan man^^

  • i have to admit i really wasnt digging the demo of this song but i like the direction this is going in.... the background electic really brings the background harmony together- plus the tambourine sounds pretty cool as well ;)

  • damn teaser!

    i want it!

  • The Beatles

  • I cannot wait for this album... complete teaser here. I WANT MORE!

  • His voice is sooo soothing

  • more cowbell

  • can i ask you question. because i want to be a musician when i grow up?

  • lol...hard work. Lookin forward 2 battle studies:)

  • rock solid is an understatement. may seem easy to others but this guy has serious skill to stay in the beat in a song that slow. i hope john payed him.

  • Can't wait for the new album to drop!

  • I love it

  • Im pretty excited for the new album :3

  • November 17th.. battle studies release date

  • GOOD JOB STEVE.

  • a thankless job Steve.

  • I am so ridiculously excited for this album! This video literally gave me the chills. Can't wait to hear it all Mr. Mayer.

  • Is it me or has what John leaked so far been the bland crap? I'm waiting for the release, so I can finally hear what War Of My Life is like now.

  • come on MAYER! DROP THIS ALBUM NOW! It is so nice now being up at USC (university of south carolina)

studying music. Now All I can do is play guitar and study it, for a grade!!

His music draws my inspiration =)

  • very beatles? this is very "the hurt" if you well. sounds just like it. i was hoping to see the hurt on battle studies but maybe he just changed it up a bit and here's the product of it? who knows? either way. love it.

  • Yeah it's the same chords as the hurt for the most part. When he played it live at Hotel Cafe he played this song, then went into part of the hurt. He's said in the past that he didn't like some of the lyrics to "The Hurt"; so he probably found new inspiration for the song and wrote this. Great progression so I'm glad he did it.

  • i hope you'll be hitting london at some point!

cannot wait for the new album.

  • wow! I got those speakers at home:D

  • Im ready for you to blow my mind mayer

  • dirty thoughts came in my head.

    dont mind me

  • very beatles

  • dude, i literally went, "man, this is VERY beatles. I wanna write that down and see what other people think"

    so... great comment.

  • id take a page from the beatles book any day

  • lol thanx, its true aint it?

  • Oh, and before I forget it: Would you mind coming to Germany on your next tour? I´ll be there, and I´m convincing all my friends :-)

  • YES PLEASE

  • Cool! Give us more, and quick, please!

  • this song has a nice layer of holiness to it.

  • the background guitar sounds a bit like oasis

  • Sounds so Beatle esque with a-typical John Mayer guitar thrown on top of it. Not that that is bad, just sayin...

  • cant wait for the album!!! sounds great!

  • What's great about your music, it that it always sounds different.

And in the fashion of almost everyone else who has commented : I cannot wait for the new album !

  • sounds great man!

  • i CANNOT wait til nov. 17th

  • is that when battle studies comes out? thats right after my bday :D perfect bday present! :)

  • yep, i think so. thats what john said on twitter..lol

  • ahh, sounds so good. Can't wait for the new album.

  • i can't wait for the new album, i've been listening to all the older songs on repeat for like 3 months and can't wait to hear the new tracks :]

  • nothing's gonna ever top the trio

  • wish i could play tambourine for this..

  • That lead sounds Claptonesque..haunting, bluesy and oh so pretty.

  • john your music inspires my music

if you would take the time to check my song on my channel and leave me something it would mean the world to me.

especially as im flying your flag over here in england!

  • lol 420 ratings..

  • sounds like he's using some of 'The Hurt' here...sounds like 'For No One' by The Beatles a little bit too. Cool

  • what exactly is a house album? does that mean he recorded it in his house? haha good stuff though :D

  • This sounds like a Beatles song.

  • That was exactly what I thought man. Something like hey jude, at the end yaknow? Not quite, but kinda, the idea anyhow. Well, still pretty good nevertheless.

  • And we all thought Steve's genius showed through on set... It's clearly all in the tambourine playing. hahah

John, I cannot wait until this album. I am so freakin excited.

  • This sounds like the closing song on the album. Very cool.

  • That's what i said haha

  • nothing new here... perfect!!!

  • Counting down the days till nov.17th! :D
