Curious what strings you used cause yours sounds great. Also did you have to work the nut slots a bit or did you leave them as is? I really like the big chunky bridge on my EB3 . thanks for the video !!! Tom
To make the difference between EB-0 and EB-3 clear:
EB-3 is not only a 2 pickup bass, it's also a full-scale (34") bass, with set neck!
The EB-0 is a one pickup short-scale bass (30.5") with bolt-on neck!
Im primarily a guitarist who plays some bass on the side for fun, and because I have relatively short fingers I consider a short-scale bass, as the short fret distance is more comfortable!
But it's limited whats available, but I have considered the EB-0!
@RadiusBass As far as i remember the neck was ok and should go ok for your small fingers. I purchased this bass for 140€ in a local store but i guess that today you'll find nothing with this price.
I have a question about this bass. Did you get a different nut before playing it left handed? I also play left handed, and I was looking into another short-scale bass (Mustang bass) that doesn't come in a left handed model. If you didn't change the nut, did you have any intonation-related problems?
I get the nut reversed by my luthier and yes i guess there could be intonation problems if you don't change the nut, unless you use very thin strings ...
ciao! trasformare il basso in "mancino" ti ha comportato problemi/spese/lavoro extra??...anche io lo sono, e pare che un basso lefty costi piu di un right-handed stesso modello... Infami!
I use a Rickenbacker 4003 and a Fender Precision but for the cash, these basses are really good. The Epiphone EB3 as well as the EB0 are fantastic value for the money.
@cjorata - Oh, I agree. And I found that during recording they don't have that 'punch' that the Fenders do. I recently sold the 4003 and replaced it with a Fender Jazz in Sunburst. Its easier to play, like the Precision, and has this comfortable slimness. So I'm a Fender fan forever! But having tried the EB3, I liked it.
The thing that i don't like about Ricks : despite the fact that they are handmade, not all of them sounds good. I owned a 4003 and sounded like shit (while other 4003 i heard sounded really good), now i own a 4001, sounds good but i've heard other 4001 sounding better ... now i've just buyed a 1978 Fender P Bass, i'm waiting for the owner to ship me from US
@poshi12 rickenbackers are not basses for the budgeted ones. they are definitively high quality basses (construction wise) but still i guess that they are overpriced because the average quality of the sound (which is basically what a bass player looks for) is not that good.
@poshi12 yes but i'm into the fact that a bass that price should sound good without any kind of effect or pre amp or pre equalization or any other sound manipulation ...
i bought one of these from my friend for 10 bucks because he hated it so much.you can see in the neck pocket that its made of plywood. its like a table!
im thinking about getting a eb3 but i paly alote metal, and i was wondering if the eb3 was a good bass for that kind of playing??....also even thow i play bass, all of us jump around like morons so also is it sturty?
grande!! ho anche io un epiphone SG, per la precisione un EB0...mi spiegheresti la differenza tra lo 0 e l'EB3? in termini di suono e di affinità più vicina al suono del gibson...grazie
hey nice job! im thinkin about getting a bass and i really like this kind. do u recommend this one? i like the look and sound but i hear reviews about it having pretty bad neck dive. is this true?
thank you ! about the neck ... i've found nothing wrong with the neck of this bass ... mine had setup by a professional luthier and was nearly perfect ...
do you fender PBs or just PBs in general? well, i wouldn't know 'cause i'm a small player, so all PBs would be heavy for me... and i know that EB-0s are smaller and super light.
beside, it's a really beautiful instrument, even though it's sound ain't the most amazing thing.
For what i know, the lighter an instrument is, the better it sounds ... maybe this is not always true (see gibson les pauls, very heavy, very warm sound) ... in general i guess that Precision Bass is the best bass for almost every kind of music : rock, blues, punk, reggae ... the Precision sound always cut in the mix .. unfortunately today precision basses not always sound good ... if you want to have a decent sound you'll have to buy a vintage one ...
I own an Epiphone eb-0 coloured in black its very good ! so if you want a cheap bass then just buy one of these epiphone eb-0 s they cost only about 175-250€ and they sound great.
Theory says that Gibson SG should sound much better than the Epi. Anyway if you read some of the comments above it seems that it's not always true ...
Epiphones are a licensed copy maker. Their cheaper because they have cheaper parts, but sinced their actually licensed by Gibson, they still kick incredible amounts of ass.
I have the EB-0 also, and its almost as good as the gibson, but the neck is shorter, and doesnt have the humbucker...i'm getting the EB-3 which, is almost $2000 cheaper, looks pretty much identical to the SG, and sounds almost just as good.if you want better sound, just replace the pickups...
Hey no prob. U deserve it. Very bluesy yet heavy sounding riffs. Hope u can make some more! Hey if u like Pink Floyd u should check out some of my vids. Peace.
yep, gibson, epiphone, dean, and esp/ltd make explorer basses. also ibanez and hamer used to make basses with a shape similar to the explorer. i would go with dean or ltd out of those brands unless you can track down an ibanez.
man that was really, really awesome. did you improvised that or was it smthg special? I loved that sound. I'd be very happy if you could send me tabs of that sort of music. (I'm a beginner on bass)
man that was really, really awesome! did you imrovised that or was it smthg special? i loved that sound. I'd be very happy if you could send me tabs of that sort of music. (i'm a beginner on bass).
I never tried enough gibson basses ... i know that the ThunderBird is often used by Metal bands ... also the current Queens of the Stone Age bass player use old gibson basses

There are a lot of good basses ... the choice is dependent on what kind of sound you like ... the only solution is to try as much basses as possible and to choose the one (or the ones) which fit best your desires ... another suggestion i can give you is to be careful if you plan to buy a fender, cause that name is not always synonim of good sounding basses, i own a mexico jazz and it sounds like crap, i tried some USA from the current production and it sounded like crap too ... try try try ...
Again, it depends on what sound you want ... the EB0 is surely a cool bass but it's ok if you play old style rock, '60 / '70 rock , blues ecc ... if you want a more versatile sound i guess you should look at another kind of bass ...
idk i played a white gibson EB-o at guitarcenter through an ampeg 610 rig and it sounded like crap compared to my stadard fender jazz and then again yours sounded good haha
ive got an epiphone eb3 the only difference between the two is that, the eb3 is a better wood, it has two pickups, has a longer scale, and has pearl trapizoid fret inlays, OH and it sounds better :)

@Michaelingolfhansen To make it clearer :
The EB3 started as a short scale bass, the EB3-L (with a 34" scale) was introduced later.

Okay!
I was only thinking of the models available now!
However: you had an EB-0?!
Sound wise, what would you say is the biggest difference between long and short scale?!
And how does the short scale EB-0 handle the deepest tones?
Michaelingolfhansen 1 year ago
@Michaelingolfhansen not really.
eb3 simply means electric bass with 3 way swtichable picks...
i have a short scale eb3

There are a lot of good basses ... the choice is dependent on what kind of sound you like ... the only solution is to try as much basses as possible and to choose the one (or the ones) which fit best your desires ... another suggestion i can give you is to be careful if you plan to buy a fender, cause that name is not always synonim of good sounding basses, i own a mexico jazz and it sounds like crap, i tried some USA from the current production and it sounded like crap too ... try try try ...

Ah i'm a complete beginner though, but so far from what i've heard the EB-0 is a good entry-level bass

Again, it depends on what sound you want ... the EB0 is surely a cool bass but it's ok if you play old style rock, '60 / '70 rock , blues ecc ... if you want a more versatile sound i guess you should look at another kind of bass ...

What EQ are you using, because although it sounded alright, there was bugger all clarity in your tone.

I found this veeery strange ... the Gibson EB0, compared against the Epiphone EB0, should be way better ...

ive got an epiphone eb3 the only difference between the two is that, the eb3 is a better wood, it has two pickups, has a longer scale, and has pearl trapizoid fret inlays, OH and it sounds better :)
