  • The thing is when you only had 4 channels back in the 80's you tend to remember all the good adverts however 30 years on and with over a 1000 tv channels it all becomes a blur and especially as you can sky plus/tivo everything and fast forward through all the commercials!

  • First black dude I ever saw on an ad...didn't even know what fried onion rings were! hahahaha! xx

  • will it be mushrooms?fried onion rings?we'll have to wait and see!i remember this ad!

  • I think I would have been seriously cheesed off if all I got with one of those measly little grills was a couple of fried onion rings.... Good ad though. Whatever happened to Steakhouse? They had a brief vogue but didn't I think last long...

  • @julesthemadman I thought the range was still about. "Measly" is indeed an apt description. If somebody dared to serve me one of these at a steakhouse'; my expression would virtually speak; "Hold on garcon, I'm the one that eats trois round 'ere!"

  • @jackjude My own expression would be quite incredulous, too. As I said though I haven't seen the range since the 80s - remember it needed two, with a mound of my late mother's delicious chips, to make any kind of meal.

  • Ha ha! Daniel Peacock @ 0:11 ! I never notice that before!

  • i remember this when i was kid every now then just sing it lol not seen this ages thanks for post

  • lips n assholes.

  • the black guy fried onion rings is doing 15 years for armed robery

    shame

  • Will it be coronary heart disease?, fried anal glegage?

We'll have to wait 'n' see...

    Oh i hope it's chi... *clutching chest* mi-art... it's mi-art gov!!!

    *thud*

  • Brilliant! Clever change of lyrics from Que sera sera!

  • Seriously, I can not believe yet another harmless and innocent Youtube video has skewed off into the racism issue. If people look for racism in even the most harmless things, how do people ever expect to stamp it out??

  • @englishguy2010 Those type of people do not intent to stamp it out, they mean to perpetuate it. Gives them an excuse for all their failings I suppose.

  • Very true my friend. Very true!

  • these tasted disgusting

  • Why is the black guy singing about Fried Onion Rings considered racist? I could understand if it was about Rice & Peas or Fried Chicken and Watermelon for instance.

  • @tarbuck77 - Yeah and would the black guy want to be in the advert if it was insulting him? Give him some credit.

  • Was the guy in the back of the van at 0:11 Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden ? Loved this ad then and still do now

  • @vicsmith5000 What, THE Bruce Dickinson?

  • @AintBigAintClever Looks a bit like him but def not him...just my daft sense of humour.

  • @vicsmith5000 Look for More Cowbell SNL either on here or Vimeo.

  • @TejMulen Trinidadian I think!

  • the driver was a real builder who they used for the shoot he got paid £350 for 3 hours work

he is retired know and lives in eire

  • I always though it started "what will it be for tea tonight, hope it's beefburgers preferably two..."

  • @TejMulen Sounds partially Jamaican.

  • 80'S ADS WERE THE BEST

  • i used to hate going to work in the back of the van about 6 hungover hairy arse builders puffing on roll ups is not the best way to start the day

  • Fucking numbnuts!

  • Lol

  • The poor sods got couscous.

  • CADAVERHUSK, I love you.

  • And all these years I thought the black guy was Indian.

Looks like steak, tastes like steak - I'll buy a steak, thanks

  • Sadly, they all died from massive heart attacks.

  • I've still got this on my VHS when i taped The Goonies off the telly!!! This was an ad during the break!! Classic Ads never die, they just live forever on the wonderful world of Youtube!!!

  • they would'na let the black guy sing in that voice now in case some PC nutter got the wrong idea. Funny how times change innit?

  • not sad at all Emmamoo - I still sing this - usually when stuck in traffic on the way home from work....hahaha holy crap! - just watched the shake n vac advert :p good times!

  • LOL, token black guy

  • @stupidjunk878 Tony from Eastenders

  • i fuckin' love chips, me....

  • FRIED ONION RINGS!

  • Classsic ad. One you can sing along to.

  • Great Advert. The best ever.

  • I woke up the other day with this ad running around my head and knew I'd find it somewhere!

Couldn't recall for the life of me what it was for!! But as someone said - back then, ads were good!

  • This is one of those adverts that suffered from its own success. I mean, surely everone remembers the chips bit, but who remembers its actually for steak? A classic ad.

  • 'Ope its Chips!!!

  • Ha ha I can still sing the words to this how sad am I?? This was when adverts were actually good!

  • @Emmamoo My Mum sings this sometimes i gets annoying xD

  • @Emmamoo me too!

  • @Emmamoo join the club

  • My Dad Loves That Advert

  • * classic * ad!

  • The Women's Lib would tear this advert to shreds nowadays. God I miss the 1980s, when women were expected to cook for their family. Whatever happened to those halcyon days?

  • Hopefully they did better than that cheap poor quality meat...

  • Fuck me, there was tokenism even in the 1980s.

  • whats wrong with cooking for a family, i cook for my hubby when hes working and i dont consider myself to be old fashioned or stuff like that, im not the greatest cook in the world lol but ill have a good try

  • Great ! Takes me back, class advert......

  • Mental Mickey turned up in the chorus.

  • Nice advert designed to make eighties consumers warm to it and then sell them shit dressed up as wholesome food , what an insult to the ignorant unsuspecting mass populace, i know you'll hate me but it's true and they're still doing it now! please don't vote cos it's the only way we're going to get our message across and tell these fuckers we are sick of getting the shit end of the stick!!!!!

  • Bloke on the left is mental mickey from O F A H.

  • What other mainstream brand did Mental Mickey advertise?

  • Not too sure but i know he worked with the comic strip on a production called war, good actor , unusual.

  • @DominatorMCMLXXVIII didn't he do the kwik fit add when they all jumped up at the end. cant get quicker than a kwik fit fitter were the boys to trust hahahahaahahaha how sad am i

  • hahaha this brings back memories

  • But it isnt a steak.

  • what year was this? its a great add i remember it well

  • Token black guy at .10

  • Yeah, and all he got was FRIED ONION RINGS!! Oughta call the Race Relations Board...

  • I got jumble iyah , fucks sake I just want something English .

  • Too un-PC for todays adverts. :(

  • Why?

  • The woman cooking at home with the men out working.

  • Oh, I thought you were on about the black guy, even though he has the best line.

  • ahh the goood al days

  • Ive still got this on video, when i forgot to press pause when i was taping The Goonies movie, way back when! Gawd bless 'em....

  • his nickname was probley chalky or somthing like that

  • fried honion rings lol

  • Council Estate-tastic!!

  • Fuckin Peasents!!!!

  • Daddy or chips?

  • Ah, the 70s ... when moms and wives everywhere started to phone it in with the eats.

  • lol... 'Fried onion rings!'

  • I hope they got syphillis instead.

  • LOL! Chips. Fuuny r wot? I hope it's "chips" for Gordon Brown. FASCIST!!!

  • remember the one where the guy was on goal

    wondering about his chips?

anyone got that one to upload

  • times change...imagine they've all got wives who will actually cook them a meal after they have been out in all weather earning money for the family!! bizarre.

and cadaverhusk is right - all builders I know can't wait to knock off on Friday to get their shitty cheap cocaine and then stand outside the pub looking suspiciously pink faced.

  • there is a bit missing from the end chips 'chorus' a whole line in fact tape must have skipped. Also I seem to remember they cut the 'fried onion rings' bit as they got complaints it was derogatory, but I could be imagining that.

  • great ad! nowadays all builders would do is be watching a woman sucking off a donkey on their mobiles.

  • @CADAVERHUSK lololololololololololololol...its 5am, im all sleepy and ur comment just made me spill my coffee

  • @CADAVERHUSK haha thats one of my favourite ever youtube comments. Poignant and witty. Bravo sir.

  • @CADAVERHUSK You must have been in the industry a number of years to know that.......it might even be that one of the asian girl swallowing/gagging on a 'Richard'

  • everyone at school used to like the "fried onion rings" bit!

  • i thought i was special!!

  • This is great!

  • Why did the black man sing the "Fried Onion Rings" line? I love the 80's! Imagine the audition, "....erm Hi Mr Winston we'd like you to sing about jacket spuds and frozen peas, but our researchers have found that the GLC says that coloured people eat yams, and cook peas embedded in rice so we with The "Fried Onion rings line" would be a bit better suited to your ethnic demographic, is that ok? btw we are running short on cash so would family tickets to Ipi Tombi cover the TV royalties?

  • Comment removed

  • a national treasure. "fried honion rings" is what's it's all about.

  • I really miss the decline of the british 'west indian' the flowery accent, style, the laughter and joy for life. What do we have instead? The moody monosyllabic 'Yeah bare tings' so on and so forth. I don't hear anyone in the Carribean talk like this.

  • Had to play it my Chilean wife, she just no got a clue, ken whit a mean?

  • Love it!

  • Good God. A blast from the past :/

  • Started singing this out the blue mrs thinks im mad had to see if its on here to show her!

  • I always thought it opened with "what will it be for tea tonight". I guess I have been singing it wrong for years.

  • im sure it did open with "what will it be for tea tonight". must have been cut off on the video.

    all time classic advert!

  • brilliant...one of those ads that just sticks in your head...everyone over 30 remembers this one!

  • It makes a good drinking song.

  • I can no longer say "Fried onion rings" without affecting the West Indian accent.

  • I know exactly what you mean... :-)

  • Indeed, it's my standard test for if's someone's on my wavelength or not.

Start singing the song and see what kind of accent they use.

  • lol your right its impossible

  • loved it on 28 days later when it was sung in the mess by the troops at dinner .

  • that was so cool on 28 day later in the mess with the army .
