This was the first song on Street Beat Records' Ultimate Breaks & Beats hip hop breakbeats (for DJs & producers) back in the 80s. It was on the unofficial 1st release (#499)...I don't rememba anyone actually samplin' this jam, but I'm dig'n it...definite party jam!!! Since it was on that album tho', I do consider this as one of the elements that help'd create the "many diff'rent themes" for hip hop music!!! LOL...
The internet is great. I had a cassette taped from the radio with no idea who sang it. I lost it years ago and just searched "I got here in July" and up it came. It brings back memories of the early 80's in Boston on a summer day walking along the Charles river listening to it on a walkman. They cost $80.00 to $90.00 but were worth it. Of course it was a cassette am/fm! lol
I too have memories of walking along the river listening to my Sony Walkman, however, just a few years later. There was a wonderful bookstore that I used to go to on Newbury back then and I remember buying lots of vinyl at a record store near Boylston and Mass Ave., near a pizza place that was open for 24 hours. Dancing at The Metro on Sunday nights, and then jumping on a plane back to NYC on Monday morning. Good times!
Big thanks on this one;) great track
