We instead, have been giving our dog an amino acid called, TAURINE. Taurine works as a neuroinhibitory within the central nervous system. There have been serveral studies that have indicated that deficiencies of this amino acid cause of seizures in humans, felines and canines.
We've been giving our dog, two 500mg capsules per day.
Before this, she was experiencing 2-3 seizures on a daily basis.
Since the TAURINE, she has been seizure-free for the last 4 months!!!
My black lab is 14 years old and began having seizures in May of 2011. After consulting our vet, she was prescribed Phenobarbital. However, we decided against administering this drug, as we read about side effects such as, sedation, lethargy, excessive urination, excessive thirst and excessive hunger, hyperexcitability, ataxia (loss of coordination or hind end weakness) and restlessness, not to mention, the long-term affects on the liver.
@PeacePerson209 wow what a contradicting name for a person like you.
"doggy hospital"? Really? It's called a vet you dumbass.you sound like a 8 year old with a bible stuck up his ass.and wait I bet she didn't go to the VET cuz she doesn't have medicine.like the one she gave her dog.you are one of the reason why lord pulpatine blow up earth like he did in star wars.
Our Husky had 10 in 24 hours, he lost his memory for about 3 weeks. He didn't know who he was, who we were. In the last 2 years he had only had one....
Thank you for posting this video. I found it while researching about dog epilepsy. My dog had a seizure this morning for the first time (had him for 2 years). His was identical to your dog's, the same movements and all. He's been in the hospital all day and after a lot of tests, it looks like a mild case of epilepsy - he hasn't had anymore since this morning. He's on seizure watch at the animal hospital and hopefully should be coming home tomorrow morning. I wish you and your dog the best.
@someoneb423 Help that dog? I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but there is nothing you can do during seizures, except removing dangerous objects near people or dogs suffering from a seizure. Other than that, you have to wait it out. (Sorry for the late reply.)
your gonna go to hell as a dog owner you fucker, you should have taken him to a doggy hospital, now i know if i ever see you im gonna kick you in the balls, bitch ;(
VERY SAD to see a that POOR dog or any animal suffer this condition, we must feel so helpless to see this happen. I'd LOVE to do animal first aid, I've worked in RSPCA where I did many jobs with assistance with new jobs I loved trying & did so well. I been a pet sitter, still pet sit from time to time & I'm still looking for work in animal shelter. I'd DEARLY LOVE to work with sick animals though I'm not a vet but I'd LOVE to assist in some way as it would be VERY rewarding. Cheers!
My dog is about 6 years old, a female golden, she does the same exact thing as your dog in the video (so sorry to hear about.) My dog have been doing it for a few months now but she stoped for a good amount of time, but she has had two today, when she has them she does the same thing but her legs are more in sync motion but other then that it is about the same, if you have any advise for me then please message me
First I am so sorry to read that you lost your beautiful Emma. Thank you for posting this video though. My poodle has suffered with epilepsy for the last 8 years. It has taken about 5 years for me to finally find a vet who has managed to get his seizures which were coming about 2-3 times a month now down to about 1 every 2-3 months with phenobarbitol and potassium bromide. It is somehow comforting to know that others have been where I am and know how terrifying these can be to witness.
I just wanted to let you know that I am a vet student and in our learning we were told to watch Emma's video as a learning tool to know what to look for in seizures. I just want to thank you for posting this video and being such a caring owner. I can only imagine how wonderful and happy of a life she lived.
my TWO year old pup has just started having these seizures and NO ONE has the right to comment on how FUNNY it is to watch this happening to a pet that they love. I appreciate the dedication of this owner in putting this on here to allow other people to learn and compare their own pets behaviour with others who have been through the same thing. I am so sorry for your loss of your beloved pet, and hope that any idiots who think this is hilarious never have to experience the pain this can cause
Don't give any salt ! Snack like potato chip or any snack with salt. That is cause seizures. If don't give my dog like potato chip snack and he wont seizures.. Believe me. Alice
i understand the pain behind it . i had a doberman named nancy with me for 13 years . march 1st she was no more . she was just lying down stiff and v realised that she was almost sinking . i called the doc immediately but ., thing failed . even after injection ., she shook her hands fast and passed away . terrible feeling . i miss her very badly . in fact she was the most important ., lovable member of our family . march 1 st 2010 she paseed away
My dog had excellent treatment, thanks to the experienced vet.Above all,Emma had wonderful life in secure but stimulating environment, and she was a happy dog.She didn’t suffer from seizures(vet told that they don’t cause pain),but she had sometimes that “absent-looking”.I hope that as many as possible can watch this (or other) video about epilepsy to increase the knowledge about epilepsy. I gave this video also to the vet clinic, where they can use it for young vets, for excample.

Totally 15 seizures, few of them in my car while driving to clinic, where vet put her to sleep. Then we were just waiting, hoping that fits wouldn’t start again.Emma’s condition was eventually diagnosed as status epilepticus. That is very severe condition, and mortality is high. So, that's what happened to her. After being kept in narcosis for 24 hrs, seizures didn’t stop and I had to do very heavy decision. It was so sad, but I was there all the way until the last breath, Emma resting in my arms.
prevent other seizures. Some of you may know that Phenobarbital is quite strong stuff and can cause damage in liver, for example. So, we went to clinic every second month to test the dose of Phenobarbital in her blood and to test if her liver is ok. Despite of medications with different doses, Emma kept having seizures about once in 2-4 weeks. The video has recorded in August 2009. Then, in September 3th, Emma got a seizure, and despite the tranquilizer, she got another, and another, and another
Thank you all for your positive and comforting comments. My dear dog Emma is not here anymore…I had to ask the vet to put her down in last September. Here is a story of the last year of my faithful dog.
Emma started to have seizures in December 2008. First thing to do was careful examinations by vet, and when diagnosis was epilepsy, probably caused by tumour in her brain, we started medication with cortisone and Phenobarbital. Vet gave me also tranquilizers, and told me to give that to Emma to

my dog is 14 and started having seizures like this one, after looking for videos to compare to my own dog, I have found that people like to think their a vet and share their ignorant comments. without videos like these, people who are terrorfied of what has just happened to their dog, wouldn't know what is happening.
I am a dog or was a dog owner. Today I had to have my dog put down because of the severity of his fits. He was diagnosed with what the vet called epilepsy. He didnt say what type it was just that what he had was very severe. My heart and my families hearts are broken. Take care of your dogs guys, and I hope yours gets cured or some kind of cure.
That's true 2buckcanuck, there's nothing you can do during a fit. TheRoihu did a good job, this may help others and he may be able to show it to the vet to determine the proper problem.
You cant do anything while the dog is having a seizure. My kitty has epilpsy and theres nothing you can do while its happening. Afterwards i try to comfort him.
i'm sorry for your ignorancy, hamey1. While a fit, you just cant do anything. After a fit i gave her tranquilizers per rectum, as you can see in the video. i hope you´ll find some information of epilepsy before making any comments.
You're an idiot. I have epilepsy myself. Let me speak as someone who knows what it's like to have convulsive seizures. The most important rule is to not move somebody who is having a seizure, unless they are at a risk of hurting themselves from something nearby. As LNRansom has said, touching a person (or animal) may risk injury.
Please research epilepsy and seizures more, and make an educated comment next time.
