  • @AndrewRaimonSavage Take them down to the threshing floor.

  • All this time I thought this was Reznor. They really do sound similar here.

  • The meaning of a song changes every time you hear it, the meanin U2 applied to this when they wrote is diff to the one i create wen i hear it nd is most likely diff to the one Saul gives it wen he does it. Nd im Irish so any meaning i hear is more likely to be simular to U2s but is still entirely different

  • Do people here even realise what, "Sunday, bloody Sunday" is even about? Irish war of independence anyone?! Very strange that Saul covers such a topic

  • @FiddleMeRicketts Not strange at all. The plight of the oppressed vs. the oppressors is not unique to the Irish alone. We should remember that what happened in 1972 can happen again, and again.

  • @FiddleMeRicketts Not strange at all. The plight of the oppressed vs. the oppressors is not unique to the Irish alone. We should remember that what happened in 1972 can happen again, and again.

  • @jovtheamazing yep and it can happen anywhere too.

  • Dope Cover, Saul is as wise as Bono, but they won't never play this on MTV. Their biggest controversy over there is Clownye West :-P

  • how would people react if this vid was shown on mtv or bet??

  • The cover is good due to Trent Reznor.

  • U2 should be honored :) for such an incredible lyricist to take interest in doing this cover is amazing. U2 is a great rock band though. Incredible and long lasting but listen to Saul's shit and these lyrics do not compare!

  • Sauls on another level. Really he is.

He raps and sings with such wisdom.

His work with Trent Reznor is just mindblowing.

Another artist I dig who raps and sings is new UK act AllFlaws.

    These guys are prophets

  • dopeness. why's everyone arguing over stupid shit man either you get and appreciate the depth of what is Saul Williams and this song or you're too shallow and condescending with all your "musical knowledge" to really enjoy the chune for it's essence. Saul Williams is the man. one of the few dope, real, and most inspiring artist of our generation.

  • what the fuck is this???? XD

  • love this version more than U2's

  • No No No....the original, immortal U2 version is just too good. Please dont ruin it. I am so dissappointed....

It has lost the meaning, the passion behind the original and is but a hollow mask of a song...sad.

  • ithasnt lost any meaning if anything its added a meaning to it I love the original but jus because someone tries a new twist on it that doesnt mean you gotta immediatley shoot it down

  • What's the video about..?

  • im sorry but i love saul williams but he sounds too like trent reznor in this, iv only heard it now, and tbh its balsphemus to U2 does he even know what this song relates to?? do many of you even know??

  • well i do, its about the wars going on while citizens living right between it

  • Eh... no!!! the song i s about a day in 1972 in ireland when british forces stormed a civil rights march in northern ireland and beat and kiled innocent people 13 ppl died immediately including 7 teenagers, U2 imortalised that terrible day with this song and every irish person knows the story of Bloody sunday try googling it!

  • @rst212 poop to you sir.

  • @b44prz and exactly why is that???

  • @rst212 I can't believe the news today I can't close my eyes and make it go away How long? How long must we sing this song? u guys not figured point of this cover ha ? @. ...forces stormed a civil rights.... its all same shit everywhere around world, just different uniforms, different excuse for abuse , killing etc etc
  • it has reznor sound to it and i LOVE it! xD

  • I wonder if he even knows what this song is about.

  • nope youre right he has no idea what this song is about he found the lyrics one day and was like fuck it im sing a new song!

  • I have always loved this song... but this version by Williams gives it a modern, raw and hip sound!

  • that truck scene freaked me out.

  • both amazing

  • yuus! Sauls FTW! (yeh my name is saul)

  • SgtToadstool is exactly right, but a version of this song that puts all these to shame is damian dempsey's..

the way it was meant to be sung, passion, pride and intensity!

  • how can you say U2 is horrible... JESUS.. there music was revolutionary... sunday bloody sunday is freaking amazing.. but i do agree he did a great remake of this song

  • What? Harry Partch was revolutionary, Bernard Herrmann was revolutionary, The fucking Residents were revolutionary.

U2? No, I'm sorry no, it's bland, mainstream, trite. It's poseur revolution.

  • WHOA, Bernard Herman is the man, I've heard some one bring him up. I love the Taxi Driver soundtrack, its my favorite. I didn't enjoy Harry Patch by Radiohead, even though I'm a huge Radiohead fan.

  • Harry Partch. A composer of the past century, invented several new instruments and his own musical scale based on the range of the human voice. Many of his songs are written in hobo lingo.

  • my mistake

  • its all bollocks they are mis guided

  • amazing cover

  • Anyone have an mp3 for this? I seriously don't feel like buying the whole album for one damn song! Since Amazon & iTunes don't allow you to buy the song individually. Or does someone have a site where you can buy it individually?

  • The album costs 5 bucks dude...come on now.

  • lol

you can tell that reznor produced this on how the vox sound alone.

  • i love how trent reznor produced this:)

  • huh?

  • I just get tired of the NIN fans talking about how Trent Reznor worked on Niggy Tardust. As if Trent MADE it or something.

It's a form of unconscious cultural bias, I think.

  • oh okay ur very right!!!

  • He's a funny guy. His music is amazing, but you can't take him as a person to seriously. He's just a bog standard socializing mode neurotic.

  • @Toolband42O ...It makes sense for singers to get emotional when singing songs they've written bc they WERE the ones who actually felt whatever the lyrics are about...Some FANS even cry to songs that have depressing lyrics...I'm sure he's not the only one who has ever cried onstage, in fact, I know he's not.

  • @Toolband42O Of course your name is Toolband, my god, why must the best band in the world have such douchbag fans?

  • what is the name of the movie?

  • U2 is a terrible band. Mr. Williams made this song worth something.

  • i agree, so much more feeling in this cover.

  • uououo, Saul made a great cover, but that doesn't mean U2 sucks, U2 is a great band!

  • Seriously, how long must we sing this song? Isn't the time here for action?

  • An amazing treatise on the plight of the homeless and the mentally ill in the world, with an element of the love of Jesus...absolutely beautiful. Thanks, Saul Williams.

  • Gloneowons akadlii faraam fifandi hanti lewonog kaikek ferened neewe fehtrod. (shit means nothing)

  • i thought this was nin at first. cuz it was on their myspace...that was confusing lol. really cool cover, though. i may like it better than the original :]

  • The whole point with covers is to do a version that's your own. It's no fun with covers that sounds exactly like the original.

  • Oh Saul, what on earth are you doing? Jaysus that's desperate

  • great song and great cover!

  • I do totally understand where people are coming from when they say it's lost it's power, because Bono famously has been incredibly emotional in his live gigs. But Saul obviously appreciates how powerful a song is, and tries to push it in a different direction to an equally important issue. Please remember that bands/artists don't always have a say in their videos. As for the new sound, it's Trent Reznor's doing more than Saul's. if you have beef with Trent I'll go nuts.

  • That was a reply to an earlier comment someone made; it seems a little random now lol.

Some people seem to insist it's a song about Ireland, it can be used as a general protest song quite easily.

  • I can really feel the message when Saul sings it. I feel like i want to take arms after listening to this. Now the government will flag this video.

  • Three days, the government hasn't flagged anything.

  • Wow ... you TOTALLY missed the point of this song.

  • i know what the point of the song is well at least when U2 sings it. Saul Williams uses this song to show the impoverished.

It was just how i felt..... that is all :P

  • loves it.

  • This sucks, The U2 version is much better!

  • i personally like his version better than U2's. i feel like it has WAY more passion.

  • He came to MSU! I am so proud of him, he sounds so good

On the rotation! Love you Saul!!

  • I don't like this version he has taken away the meaning of a brilliant song and i don't think he sings it well enough i mean think about it this song is made about an important date in irish history 7 british spies are killed and then the brits open fire in the middle of a gaa gaelic football match and you can't change the meaning

this is just my opinion so don't give me a thumbs down

  • he played this in dublin with a big smile on his face a while back... place went crazy :) best show ever

  • I do love this version very much.

    trentreznoramazingg<;3

  • Saul has always been a hero a peer and a mentor to me. Look forward to seeing what he shows us.

  • Holy shit saul you rock...the message to wake up a give a shit is being heard loud and clear! KEEP IT UP. KEEP IT REAL.

  • 3:52...

    Ana Ortiz from Ugly Betty?

    P.S. Saul Williams = Legend!

  • Bloody Sunday was in Ireland

  • Wow, hes not referring to the actual event Bloody Sunday (Btw there was a bloody sunday in Russia also), hes referring to the struggle of race and poverty within the United States. It's a metaphor.

  • actually this is a cover of a U2 song sunday blood sunday lol, so it really is about ireland, just he made the music video to be about poverty.

  • But it's His cover, which means that this version is now about what he intended, despite the fact that Bono wrote it about Ireland.

  • the lyrics are exactly the same lol, i don't know how you can use someone elses words and totally change the intention. the music video itself has a different intention but bloody sunday happened in ireland, and i really don't see how that refers to homeless ppl AT ALL.

  • The struggle of race and poverty in the United States? You mean the minorities like Blacks and Hispanics basically having everything handed to them? You mean like those that don't go to school, don't work, don't pay taxes, and live off of my income tax? Must be a different USA you speak of...

  • Nope same one. Its also the USA that houses racist gits like yourself.

  • You're a complete and utter idiot if you think I'm racist. I have always had plenty of friends of all races. It is not race/color that I have something against, but rather laziness and ignorance, something that I have found in ALL races, including white. It is people's own fault to be in the situation they're in, I know this as a fact. I have had multiple people admit that they're in the situation they are because they were too lazy to get a better job or go to school.

  • So don't you dare give me the "racist" label. I work hard for what little I have, it is not too much to ask for other people to work for themselves. Poverty, 99% of the time, is self-induced. In the USA, everyone has the chance to improve their lifestyle, all it requires is hard work. Same for education...actually, it's easier for a minority. There are scholarships for blacks and hipanics...where are the scholarships for white people? Oh wait, that'd be racism.

  • Don't call me an idiot. It's perfectly natural to assume from your first comment, which was primarily directed against blacks and hispanics, to assume that you have something against blacks and hispanics. Secondly, not 99% of poverty is self induced. I agree, there are plenty of people who could get jobs and save themselves from their situation. But thats not the point of this song, this song is for the other people in America who are actually unable to lift themselves from poverty.

  • It's a song about a riot in Ireland between Nationalists and Monarchists in the 70's

  • I believe we've been over this. The U2 version is in fact about that song. Saul's version is different, because he intends it to be different, and thus it has a different meaning. In this case, a metaphor for poverty in America.

  • you're a complete and utter idiot if you think posting "You mean the minorities like Blacks and Hispanics basically having everything handed to them?" won't give off a racist impression on the internet.

  • Bono has said over and over it's a protest song in general. It's named after a massacre in Derry in 1972 but he's used it over and over in different contexts singing about different massacres in Ireland by different groups of people, the British Army, the IRA, and others.

If U2 want to use it as a general "protest song" it makes sense if other want to do the same.

  • It's a good song but it shows that he has no clue what Bloody Sunday was by the music video he made.

  • Really nice cover of U2's classic, really good video also!!!

  • Trent Reznor+ a Bonefide poet+ one of U2's best songs=epic win.

I own the CD BECAUSE OF THIS COVER

  • I love U2's version of this...its so moving. And I don't think that this version can capture the "power" of the original (its a cover, of course)..but it is a good cover of it. I can feel the emotion within Saul's voice.

  • I was very fortunate to see Saul W live at the start of the summer here in the UK and I absolutely loved this version! He was very scary on stage dressed in a crazy feather headdress haha!

  • In my opinion its a better version. I think it embodies the basis behind the song better, plus Saul Williams is amazing. Great new album. I never thought one of my favorite U2 songs could be covered so well

  • Gimme a break. The singing is ok but come on you gotta admit the backing band SUCKS!

  • eat my shorts, trent reznor produced this, asshole.

  • That backing band is Trent Reznor, the one-man industrial rock powerhouse. You can't just declare that it flat out "sucks" because it's a different genre to the original. I like both versions, both vocally AND instrumentally.

  • Just because I don't like "Industrial" rock is not my fault

  • It's not a fault to dislike a genre of music, but it doesn't give you the right to proclaim that it "SUCKS".

  • OK you're right --my bad

  • Ok you're right -- my bad

  • only Saul could look badass with feathers

    Go Saul!

  • hahah thats the first thing i though when i saw that.

  • Not as good but still good. Why does everything have to be a competition with you fuckers? I doubt he took the song on with the intention of being better.

  • This a is pretty good video. Very interesting almost if the clips were from an actual movie.

  • Goddamn this video still hits me like a rock

  • Hes the MAn!

  • even better live...just saw saul perform on 4/11 in Philly. He's a captivating artist to say the least.

  • probably one of the coolest covers I've heard...I like it better than the original

  • way better then the orignal!

  • how is this better than bono's?

it's good but it's no way near better than U2's original, son.

  • yeah but Bono's a tool, and I can't see past his shitty ego

  • amen to that!

  • Lol, yeah. Ever see the South Park where it turns out he's literally the Biggest Sh** in the world? Soooo fitting. He's got some good music, but he's a big turd, personally.

  • No, the biggest turd in the world appeared on South Park as himself.

    Elton John.

  • u2 is one of the biggest bands in the world

  • you gotta give it to him it dosen't suck like smashing pumpkins cover of "stay"

  • whoah...and i thought Trent was singing in the beginning, awsome

  • yeah me too!!!

    Saul's fukin great

  • bono is a pompus ass... he thinks hes god, and it pisses me off, hes just overall annoying. good song, GREAT cover, the second best ive ever heard, the first is wish by Linkin park

  • yeah all of my friends think its trent singing in the beginning but i keep telling them nah it aint.

  • great cover, AWESOME video.

  • powerful video

  • nice

  • I think Bono will love to hear this song singin by two genius instead of a band like the Backstreet Boys no?

  • Slaughters U2s version, imo

  • Some people need to clean their ears. It is obviously SAUL singing! All TR contributed was a new arrangement of the song... Just check the credits in the PDF file of NiggyTardust!

  • Have you even listened to either Saul Williams or Nine Inch Nails?

It's not "obviously" either singer. They both contribute to the vocals.

Now everyone shut up and listen.

  • Actually, it's fairly obvious Trent contributes nothing in the way of vocals except perhaps some faint backing.

Album credits support this as well.

  • it's both, just listen to the chorus

  • no one will ever sing it like bono...so-so cover but i dug it

  • Lovin this song.amazing!!!:)

  • They both sing in it..... they layer voice tracks just like trent layers EVERYTHING else. guitar, keys,drums...they probably had 20 or more voice takes before the decided on the final cut.

  • see lord chunky understands because he isnt retareded

  • trent produced it but he stared in many of sauls songs on the album

  • lol omg both of them are in this song

    they are both singing

  • no, it is trent singing. even on the NIN myspace page it is this song, so why is it on the NIN page?

    not on the Saul page..

  • SUCKS

  • you are all wrong

  • It's Saul Williams singing. Trent produced it.

I think it's an awesome cover, speaking as a huge U2 fan.

  • That is Trent Reznor singing...

  • trent just did produced the album and rearranged this song

it is saul singing i checked the album

  • no its not... this song was just played on vh1 and they introduced it as Saul's

  • It's on Sauls album, but Trent sang it. It is OBVIOUS that this is Trents voice.

  • o affence but this is a discrease its doesnt tell the point to the song about irelands history or any thing u2 tried to say about what happend

  • saul's taking his own spin on it. you may like the literal meaning of the original, that's cool, but it may mean somethig different to saul, and he's singing it, spreading his own message.

  • maybe the best u2 remix so far. Trent is a fucking crazy ass producer!! Saul has a beautiful voice too! Download and support Saul he's really a phenomenon.

  • saul is one of the best poets of our era. and ya'll should check out his other albums. the man is pure genius and revolutionary.

  • as a huuuuugeee u2 fan i can truely say that that its a great cover and a great album.

  • This cover is awesome, as is much of the record. Black rock stars rule.

  • No doubt. Saul Williams is a pretty nifty poet as well.

  • he sounds like trent reznor

  • madsnax is wrong

trent just produced the album and rearranged this song

it is saul singing i checked the album

  • If you can't tell the difference between Sauls voice and Trents voice, then maybe you shouldn't be listening to music in the first place.

  • Well, when you think about it, Sauls kinda like the black Trent Reznor, and vice versa. I mean, when your listening to WTF or Break, it's kinda hard to tell the difference.

  • Trent actually sang in the opening of WTF, so if that's what you're talking about you heard correctly.

  • awesome! now go get his album, it's only 5 bucks!

  • its ****** great!

  • I don't get it.

  • yes
