I find it really hard to believe this is so popular, I honestly believe its the worse comedy for a very long time. I cringe and feel like the writing is inferior to so many other comedies. Please enlighten me someone. Also don't say I don't have a sense of humor I have lots and appreciate lots of stuff across the years. Armando Giovanni Iannucci could write better than this on an off day.

Miranda is just a simple and down to earth comedy by a great actress, maybe to you the writing is inferior but to so many others, it shows the imperfections of this bumbling, funny woman trying to find her way in life, maybe its bare honesty is what makes it so popular and so good to laugh at.

@jabeoo1 I understand you. I have a soft spot for The Thick of It as well as Miranda and the two shows have different ways of presenting humor. If you are looking for wit and subtlety, chances are this show would not be very appealing. It may not be as smart as "traditional", classic comedy like A Bit of Fry and Laurie or Blackadder but it certainly parallels the life that most people live in, situations that generally people go through like putting your life in order, etc.

@jabeoo1 Both are honest; while Armando Iannucci's writing is intense and thorough (and a lot of research), the honesty in Miranda is that it is spontaneous and coincidental comedy. You have to take it for what it is and it does what it needs to do: to make people laugh. In The Thick of It, it's a lot to take in. You have no true friendships, everyone typically swears under pressure and the conflicts are layered: no normal person would ever understand that.

@jabeoo1 I like that Armando Iannucci was able to expose the scenario of government to the audiences. That beneath all the observational humor, there is pressure on both having to deal with being government officials and individuals. TTOI is extremely witty and its analogies certainly make people think and, I do feel that it is an intellectual comedy; it's something that people might find daunting at first but nevertheless, the relevance of it makes it worthwhile.

Miranda is something that you can watch after a bad day; it is not heavy or analytical--it simply makes you laugh. It does the job that comedy should and at the end of the day, it is all about your preference. :) Slapstick is more about being silly and light-hearted and not taking things to seriously. Intellectual comedy, well, you have to have an amount of understanding on the subject for it to make you laugh. There are days when I prefer one over the other, depending on my mood. :)

I just feel the need, personally, as an audience, to defend both shows of their strengths because I love Miranda as much as I liked The Thick of It (Alan Partrige was good too!).
