I've lived in your country, mate.People I met hated the Soviet Union/Russia the most.. Many didn't like the Iraq war and Kosovo. I didn't like it either. You say the US paid your government to accept them? Real American democracy is you voting out your government for being corrupt. We will do the same in the US this november. No more bush. Believe me, I've been a lot of places and I've seen a lot of people protest against America. But know that I live in California, and there have been times I have protested America's actions as well (Iraq war a few times). I believe the Bush administration is very corrupt. His republican party lost both house & senate last election because the American people see this. He has below 20% approval here. In november somebody new will lead. If he or she is bad, they and their party will be defeated.

As for the corruption you talk about,that is not just "American" corruption.That is corruption from complete globalization of free market capitalism.Though the US is one of many to be blamed for this. I think capitalism needs to have bounds & limits so that the middle class & poor aren't exploited. The only way to end "US dollars for Czech missiles" is you change your government, we'll change ours, & maybe it can work. If not? Revolution? I don't know. But I think violence should be last option.

US did use to be the place of liberty. It hurts to have seen that end. But I hope it can be restored. It is good to have more than one super power. The US is better too cuz we won't play world police. But in CZR I have many friends. The only people who say they preferred USSR over US are people who did NOT live under Soviet Rule. Ask somebody over 50 years old if they have more freedom now than when they were young. Or was life better then or now? Only people born after 1985 will disagree.

I dont know. Sure we have better economy and people have more money. Sure nobody want back to Soviet times. We were occupated. But lot of people understand that money are not all. Your country dont know it but believe me or not people over 50 y. old often says that world under commies was not so bad as it looks like. People were more friendly than now. People were polite. Now people dont know nothing about neightbours. It is interesting how friends can be like foreigners in capitalism.

What makes Putin dangerous I feel is he eliminates transparency.I feel he's destroying transparency, due to how professional the kills were with the deaths of: Litvenenko (polonium-210), Politkovskaya(torture, mock execution, poisoned, shot), poisoning of Yushchenko (dioxin). Come on. If you and I wanted to kill somebody, where would we get Dioxin or Polonium 210? It's not that people died. I understand that sometimes happens. But he has done it in a way that warns others not to do the same.

You could ask "what is worse, Putin killing and poisoning those people or Bush starting a war where thousands have died?" That's a valid question. Morally, Bush has a lot to answer for and I can imagine a day he gets charged with war crimes. Putin's actions I think will have a different type of effect. It will not kill millions, but cause millions to not question their government's actions. It will give that government much more power. I don't want a new Soviet Union. I think Putin does.

Well where are the proofs that Putin killed somebody? For what is this killing? Do you know that in Russia are 28 000 people murdered every year? It is really much. I understand your pessimism.But I think we can still change things within the system. & if we can't we tear it down.But we're not there yet,I don't think. What you said about capitalism is true.People don't know their neighbors. But 50 years ago they feared their neighbors would turn them in. So maybe it's progress. I don't want US to run Czech government. I want Czech to run it. But I can vote for a president who will do this. You have to fight for a gov. that won't let the US do what it wants.

I agree with what you say about Putin. I don't think he is overly aggressive toward the west. The US is placing missiles in CZ, we shot down a satellite, which anybody knows was for military purposes, not what Bush said it was. So he is responding to this, & I imagine to pride. Russia was a key player on the world stage for half a century, but since 1991 everybody disregarded them as a nation that WAS powerful. He's simply saying "we're still here & we still have the bombs." I don't blame him

My problem with Putin has been how he's dealt with enemies inside russia. I don't care if he wants to be a super power with the US. And I live here. Both desire self-preservation so neither will launch. Also, I am not calling the US innocent. Things my gov. has done at times has made me embarrassed for the first time in my life, to call myself an American. But I believe transparency is a must in any society for these things (corruption, illegal wars) to stop.

By the way, you live in an amazing and beautiful country. The time I lived in Prague and Kosice were some of the best years of my life. The Czech people were very friendly. Because I am young in my 20s I went out a lot and met a lot of Czechs in discos, bars, restaurants. You really have an amazing nation. In my opinion Prague is more beautiful than Paris, London, New York, or Los Angeles. It's alive. You're very lucky.

It's sad how Alexander Litvinenko got poisoned on November 1, 2006, and then he died on November 23, 2006. He was an interesting guy. I just did a report and a poster on him at school. It was all pretty interesting.

I agree with pahtsan. Chechnya is a great example of needing to deal with them, even if you have to kill them. What they did when they took over the thatre or the school in Beslan was horrible. And you are right - the US recently has not demonstrated liberty. They've not treated prisoners right. Yet this November, we will have a new person in charge. Also, look at American polls. Only 20% of Americans like what bush has done. 90% believe we need to treat prisoners better and show liberty.

i'm not talking about russia, i'm talking about poland. and i'm not talking about not paying for gas, i'm talking about the northern gas pipeline that russia is building so that it can increase gas prices for poland and use it for political pressure, without interrupting germany's gas supply. add that to poisoning ukraine's presidential candidates and brutally curbing freedom of speech. i'd say that's one hell of a nasty regime.

Watch last big interview with Putin. He answered on this. Gas is russian product and they want sell it in western Europe. So why are Poles angry? For Russia is cheaper to have "severniy potok" under Baltic see then in Poland. Because they know that Poland will want money for it. So why Russia should accept it when they have cheaper way? I understand Poland that they will lost influence if they will have not russian gas pipelines. But actually Poland is anti-russian country so where is problem?

first of all, don't base your knowledge on interviews with putin, just as you shouldn't believe half of the stuff you hear in interviews with bush. second of all, there already IS a gas pipeline going through polish territory. that's the point. they want an alternative one so they can shut off the gas supply for poland without affecting the countries further down the pipeline. it isn't poland that's anti-russian. it's russia that's anti-polish.
