  • We don't know what went through Mr. Gosney's mind. He became "fight or flight." All he knew was, there was trouble and he wanted out. The fact that he will never see his son again should be punishment enough...no need for us to keep harping on his less than wise decision to leave his son behind. Every birthday that his son has had posthumously is more than enough pain.

  • Congressional shield of protection...Da FUCK?! -__- Cause clearly, the congressional shield of protection is more powerful than a madman and his ARMED goons. Yeah, nice one, Congressman Ryan.

  • what an excuse of a man ....living your son behind

  • "He passed a note!" I hope that little fuckface died first.

  • Joining Jonestown was like being in a mob for these poor people. For those who survived, it was likely by choice and consider lucky also. Jonestown, one of the biggest conspiracies in American history. Watch America's Dark Secrets documentary trailer via my page.

  • Don't hand your kid off to that crazy bitch!

  • YOUR UNDER THE PROTECTION OF THE US CONGRESS.

  • U know what! U don't leave your kids behind! U r a parent ur scared it's sucks there but u left your kid there n it was selfish!!! Point blank!

  • snitches get stitches kid

  • hate to sound mean, because I know Jim Jones was crazy; but had the guy kept the note 900+ people would've survived because after that incident he went REALLY REALLY crazy..atleast that's what I noticed.

  • Mr Gosney knew how unstable Jones was i mean during the "White Night" drill the members would line up to drink Flavor Aid in a rehersal to "revolutionary suicide" Make no mistake about it he was scared and gonna bail out no matter what if that meant giving up his son he would do so and did. I wouldnt t take pity on Mr. Gosney he wasent even thinking about his son s saftey when he passed the note he is NO way a brave man

  • I think the most scary thing about Friday Nov. 17th was the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special aired in the U.S.

  • @mccarrpo It hapenned on the same day? Oh shit.

  • Vernon KNEW what kind of place he was in and his son was in..how could he say he didnt know if he was doing the right thing when he wanted out himself?! I cannot understand that at all..I do not understand!

  • @xmanclyx Maybe that says something of Vernon's character, but I personally don't see it that way. He was obviously not of sound mind in that situation. Nobody who lived there was.

  • I feel so sorry for Vern Gosney. It's very clear that he loved his son, & I'm sure it wasn't easy to make the decision of leaving him behind. Even if Vern had no way of knowing what was going to happen, I'm sure he feels very sad about what ended up happening to poor little Mark... :-( I know I do.

Then again, I feel sorry for everybody. It's a very tragic story, all around.

(Also, notice how much Jim Jones raises his eyebrow during the first half of the clip? Kinda chilling...)

  • @TheMouseAvenger

I don't know if this helps at all but Vern Gosney became a police officer serving greater Hawaii. He's spent his entire life making retrebution for not being able to protect his son by serving and protecting others.

  • i just wondering where were those red brightette guard finally endup, escape and just kill themselves off, it would be weird for them to force other died first and then for themselves, right.

  • Yeah, we can call him a coward, a man who trusted the right way will get him out, and excuses for and against him. That wont bring the poor kid back-and imagine how he feels everyday now....I'd be sick w/remorse,guilt,shame. Still, none of that brings the kid back. It does teach us something for the future though: nobody is going to love our child&protect him more than us. And no Job;function; is more important than the child. Watch your kids. And watch those that watch your kids.

    peace.

  • This guy Gosney makes me sick. he has a bunch of excuses. He talks about his son being subject to racism in the U.S. and then earlier he says he was not thinking clearly. He is just a coward, plain and simple. How can anyone leave their child behind when they know they the danger is real.

  • @nycboyforlife

They did Vernon a disservice by only taking a soundbite about the subject out of his interview for this program. In the interview that I sound recorded Vern told of how Jones told the inhabitants of Jonestown, and it's large black population, that race riots had broken out in the States since they had left and that blacks were being targeted ind killed. This statement was confirmed by the Carter brothers and Jones' own son Stephen.

  • @nycboyforlife well said

  • so there were almost 300 children in Jonestown. that means about 1/3 of the 900 killed were children. Fucking chilling!

  • gotta love kids "he passed a note!"

  • His son didn't want to leave.

  • Left his son behind to save his own skin. Coward.

  • @ffilchtaeh as opposed to what? die together?

  • @ffilchtaeh i guess it's easy to say that now, when we know what would eventualy happen. But u have to know that these people belived wholehearthy in this town. And i wouldn't find it strange if even the people that wanted to leave didn't know it would go as badly as it did.

  • Why that fuck did he leave his son there i don't care what they will do I will had grab my son while the congrance man and his people there and said fuck this me and my son is leavin with you guys . .. . If not then they have to kill me cause my son have to live.

  • Leo Ryan was the reason why Vern Gosney left his son behind. Con. Ryan told them that it would be easier to get the kids out through legal channels in the states as Jones had insisted that many parents sign over parental rights to the Temple. Take the kid only to have him returned and face a kidnapping charge or work with the law?

Besides, no one had any way of knowing what would happen that night. I doubt that Ryan, his people and the news crew would have left if they had.

  • @thegirl44 everyone definitely underestimated Jim Jones, nobody knew what would happen

  • Vernon Gosney signed something saying that he was leaving his son? Coward on so many levels.

  • Passing the note just like in 1985 wow...

  • The woman that was screaming "YOU BRING THOSE KIDS BACK HERE!" at 7:29. Was she one of the defectors who wanted to take her kids home with back to the States did she want those to stay in Jonestown?

  • She wanted to stay in Jonestown.

This documentary does not seem 100% accurate. From what I've read and watched, it was Monica Bagby who passed the note, not Vern Gosny. Also, the only visitors who spent the night in Jonestown were Ryan and his aide, Jackie Speier. The reporters spent the night in Port Kaituma.

  • It isn't. I'm actually surprised how much it got right, though.

  • More than one note were passed ...

  • From what prospective? Those who fail to learn from the past are sheep and are condemned to repeat it.

  • Anybody know the name of the actress who I think plays the part of Jackie Speier? She's the one holding the microphone at 9:35 in the above video, she has no speaking part and is not listed in the credits but I can't place where I've seen her before.

  • Its Shauna Mcdonald.

  • hey, thanks for putting these links in the 'more info' box. a lot easier to link to.

    time saving to. later.

  • At 5:51 whats the camera being used?
