What nobody talks about is there is a HUGE difference between the word "racism" and the word "prejudice". I mean WTF do they always use that word? The issue is not with 911 as the mainstream media is trying to spin, but with the way the officer responded to mr.gates after the call. After Mr. Gates showed the officer 2 forms of I.D.(state issued DL,harvard employee I.D.),what reason did Mr. Gates have to cooperate for after that point. Who was he disurbing in his home.

The woman is NOT the issue. The issue is how the police officer reacted to Professor Gates being in his own home. The woman has the right to make the call and the police are right to respond. What ensued on the officer's part is the KEY issue here. He reacted wantonly and STUPIDLY and shoule be the bigger man and apologise.

There is no need to id the suspect by race until you decide you are going to go out there. Here that was the last thing he asked. He was doubting the urgency of the call. Then he asks what do they look like. Okay, let's roll on in there ;-)

Anyway, that's ambiguous at best. The real problem is with them lying about the caller's stmt then calling for backup enough they had Gates' ID.

What noone is talking about is: There were 2 gentlemen. Was the second guy present? WHAT IF...the second "gentleman" was holding Gates against his will? The officer had to account for the second gentleman and insure Gates wasn't the one being encroached upon. WHAT IF...The officer "just walked away" and Gates came up dead the next day at the hand of the "second gentleman". Everyone would be saying "Why didn't Crowley do his job?" Fine line here....

The second guy was the driver. Gates entered through the back door because he couldnt get through the front. He asked the driver to help him dislodge the front door. This is what the neighbors saw at that point. No Gates except from behind as he walk to backdoor. And strange driver pulling on front door.

Actually, race may have played a part after the call. The POLICE REPORT stated that the caller told Crowley that she saw "2 black men with backpacks on the front porch". The caller's lawyer has said that she NEVER TOLD CROWLEY THAT!

After it was established the house was safe, that there was no break in and Prof Gates was indeed the owner of the house the officer still asked him to step outside. Why? Because Prof Gates got uppity with him? The officer was out of line.

Prof Gates is one of the most prominent scholars in the nation that DOES make him high and mighty. How could people that live in the area not know who he was?

I was going form what Andrea Mitchell described in the YouTube video. Also, I think the dispatcher quoted the officer. But I don't know first hand what the officer said or requested.

Hmmm...I listened to what you are talking about--I think this reporter had it wrong. if you listen to the officer interaction, you will hear Officer Crowley (I am assuming) tell the dispatcher to keep the "cars coming" at the beginning, then in a later interaction with the dispatcher, you hear him state that he has the ID. I wonder how many minutes were between each interaction with the dispatcher...
