Paul J. Adams had a CAUSE..Providence St. Mel was the 100% Graduation Rate , please believe iit, EFFECT!!! Congrads to PSM, an Offical Film Selectee of 09' Bronzeville Cutural Film Festival Tribute to Bill Duke!!! I was taught to either find a way...or make one! Alumni Love
I go to this school. It has a good ciriculum. One thin about it is that it has a whole lot of rules. Unless you want your child to go there for highschool, don't send him/her there (unless of course they can easily adjust).
Although you may be intimidated by a black school, there smart black kids, and thy're amazingly nice. They're taught to reject ignorance and malicious behavior. Eighth grade is a nice year to go there.
Went to St. Mel.....left St. Mel....still went to college....still doin my thing....dont be fooled by everything u hear & see. St. Mel doesn't make the student, the students who make St. Mel... 100% acceptance to college....true.....what about retention rate?
Graduated from St Mel...I felt hindered from reaching my full potential. If you didn't fit a certain mold, regardless of your brilliance, you were kind of overlooked. NO BLACK STUDY COURSES. 5% Black faculty...Fired a teacher who attempted to implement a variation of Black Literature...90% of contributors are Jewish/Corporate...At Mel's it was always about the school and not YOU- the student....STILL. Going through this made me understand the reality of the world, and the hearts' of people....
Inspiring. To see african americans in Chicago achieve this at one institute with the full support they need and deserve, of course the impossible will happen.
My husband went to this school when it was St. Mel Holy Ghost grade school and St. Mel H.S., graduating in 1965. He went on to attend St. Mary's University of Minnesota and graduated in 1969. He is still a proud Gold and Purple Knight! I even know about the St. Mel Knights marching to victory. Congratulations on doing things right.
Very good! Certainly no TRULY sane person [truly sane] can object to any project, school, idea or venture that is centered on the SALVATION of children through their nurturing and education.
What I hope would accompany that, though, is a sense of committment to SOCIETY, and not the single motive of "getting a job."
"When you graduate, you'll get a GOOD job!" What if there ARE no jobs? The commitment for JUSTICE should be taught. Fight, against the prison-industrial complex.
